One of my life's big regrets. I traded in my beautiful dark green Passat saloon TDi for an e Class way back in 2012. It was a 1999, 130k full service, immaculate inside and out, and well loved. I thought they would sell it on but it was never taxed again, and I assume went off to be scrapped. Also the timing belt had just been done on it It was such a waste and had another 100k in her. If I had known I would have kept it😥😥

Candian B6 Passat estate owner here. I've owned two, the first being a rusty 2006 beater base model, purchased for $2500 as a temporary vehicle to help with moving. My wife and I were so impressed with that car and what it could do, I sought out a newer and less abused example. We ended up with a High line spec, loaded, one owner 2009 2.0TSI model with only 60,000KM. Its been a great car, perfect for road trips (the 70l fuel tank gives it long legs) gets great gas mileage and can haul just about anything... fast.

So weird I bought a £600 golf Estate 07 all I wanted it for was storage and tip run car for a few week, woman who I bought it off had it since new only getting rid because she wanted something bigger. Full vw service history the car drove like a brand new vw. . New clutch flywheel, anything jt needed it got, ive never bought a car when someone keeps every bill including tyres it was like a bible thick; genuinely expected it to be awful, noises, things broke/not working. The opposite air con everything worked I evan went down to Cheshire from the Lakes in it to prove to the wife how good this car is. She was blown away how a £600 if looked after was like new, we’ve ended up keeping it just mot’d it it passed nothing at all. Were happy with the 50mpg it does everywhere compared to our X3M which does less than half.

The 1.9 tdi BXE engine is a great engine. I had one in an A3 neughbour still has a passat nowwith 450 000 a going strong. The fly wheel and hollow crank are the only weak spots. But easy to get replaced. A better car than many new cars.

@MiracleMitch
@MiracleMitch 2 жыл бұрын
The BXE engine actually suffers from more cases of bottom end bearing wear which causes a connecting rod to seize, snap and be ejected out of the block, than its other two 1.9 counterparts, the BLS and the BKC engines (this latter one is the bulletproof one of the three). In Passat circles (forums and blogs) it is recommended that the rod bearings in a BXE are replaced at around 100k as a preventative measure.

Great to see another banger kept on the road for another few years! I've got one of these myself on a 59 plate, 2.0 diesel r line and everything you said was spot on. Well built, comfortable, reliable and cheap to run. Lowered powered ones are a bit gutless and they're fairly boring but for the money, you can't go far wrong. PS - Pov spec models didn't have the slide out drawer in the dash nor much else on them, easily spotted by the amber front repeaters. Better models got clear repeaters amongst other things, just to remind you that you could of done better in life 😂

I don’t remember what went wrong with the Passat I had of this generation. I just know it wasn’t worth fixing, with what I could only sell the car for at the time. Mine was a 2.0T wagon. Loved it, and I also loved the 2012 VW I replaced it with. That had the rare V6. So rare, the service writer I had, he didn’t know it had a bigger battery than the 2.0T version. Anyway, I love Passats. On my 3rd, and wish VW would keep making them in the US, even if they don’t sell well. Guess I’ll have to pony up the money for an Arteon next. If that’s still around when I can afford one.

I had an ‘07 US Passat Wagon. Didn’t know there was a version so basic, it had manual shift & manual windows. Mine was the 2.0T version, w/leather & power lift gate. The power went out on the lift gate though, so that sucked. I think it had the drawers you mentioned, in the dash. I never put anything in them, cuz they were so tiny, & I thought it was some sort of black hole that’d swallow up what I put in them. Loved that car. The gauge cluster looked high end. I loved putting the key into the dash to start it. I didn’t mind the electric brake, although it was before they became more common, so you had to tell valet people how to work it then. Only got rid of the car probably due to it needing work that wasn’t worth what I could only sell the car for. Got a 2012 Passat , and drove it till it needed work that wasn’t worth the vehicle sell price at the time. On my 3rd Passat, a 2022, and wish they would keep on making them (at least in the US). Haven’t heard about overseas or Canadian Passats being shelved, but I don’t think I like them as much as the US spec anyway. Cool video! 👍

@@Blackmamba12345 rubbish - the b6/b7 feel miles ahead and far more modern and dynamic to drive than b5/5.5, you really can't compare the two, in fact after owning a b6 highline for 10 years i struggle to find the same driving dynamics in any new vw, and ive driven the b8 passat and the golf 8's, the small suv's etc. The sharp steering feel just isn't there anymore... they lost something they achieved back in the day. Now the cars are so light and so have gone the steering feel, i guess so you can turn it with 1 small finger in any city occasion, but it really takes away the feeling. B5 in comparison is a heavy narrow goat with an extremely heavy nose and just plain boring to drive. (now i realise most people out there probably prefer the light controls, and if im tired, overworked or just had a stressful day - i admit i sometimes thought the car could've been a bit lighter to be ideal - but now after trying all kinds of stuff, my vote goes towards this car's dynamics and steering feel for sure)

Great Video, plenty of miles left in that one yet !! The Passat B6 is a brilliant car if your after a cheap, reliable runaround but be careful with the engine you chose! That 1.9 BXE is a PD (cam driven injectors) and last of the VW TDI with the legendary reliability, have seen a few of these running over 500k kms once serviced regularly. .. usually the Dual mass flywheels go around the 300k km mark but the good news here is the option of solid flywheel replacement options for the BXE at a reasonable price. There was also the 2.0 Tdi Pd engine at introduction , best avoided due to oil pump balance shaft issues which can cause engine damage and turbo issues so steer clear of that option. 2008 seen the introduction of the common rail engines 2.0 and 1.6 (identifiable by the dipstick not surrounded by the plastic engine cover) which are also reliable engines. Can't get much better then a B6 Passat for no nonsense motoring.

Depress the clutch upon starting and the dual mass flywheel assembly will last for ever. My current BXE equipped car- an Octavia - has 300000 miles ( not kms) on original clutch, turbo, injectors etc. The 1.9 TDI engine was the best Diesel motor ever made- now alas eclipsed by emission control regs

Wow it's parked on the web of Ley lane and Hollins Lane, Mill Brow. Did you try a handbrake turn there after all? It's nice to see my back yard on the big screen. Started watching the channel to see if I could do the detective work and solve your filming locations, but I enjoy the content. Wishing you lots of good straight customers .... a rarity I know.

I’ve had a Golf mk5 of the same era, the gear knob hat came off too, blue-tak worked a treat! The key for this B6 Passat is the same as the next generation too… I had the same key design on my old B7. I also liked the dash design too, there wasn’t a drawer in the dash. But, the suspension on mine was terrible. The sight of a pot hole used to knock the tracking out, including 5 miles down the road after spending a small fortune on VW wheel alignment! I did 35-40K a year in it and I used to get through more tyres from uneven wear. The 2.0 TDI 140 engine was good though, until the VW ‘fix’ killed the EGR valve.

Got one. In the top spec the leather is beautiful. Brilliant car. Best seats in any car for tall people. Thigh support is so long. Front and back. Amazing comfort and as you say, lovely interior. Fits in all the camping gear. Goes forever. Bought the top spec one off my dad, who used it for 5 years going to the gold club and back, super low kms. Every time I'm tempted to look to spend $80k on a new SUV they just don't compare. 🤷‍♀

Had a 5 cylinder Passat estate years ago. Bought at 33k, sold at 216k with original clutch. Regular servicing and it NEVER broke down at any time. Didn't fancy 4 cylinder VWs after that and preferred the Mondeo with timing chain. Family requirements oblige a Tiguan now and it's OK. Ford interiors have better build quality, though.

I run a European car service and repair shop in Perth, Australia. We have a 2012 Passat Wagon (Estate) on our loan fleet which we bought used a few months ago. Its clean but not perfect in black with 164,000km (102,000 miles). Obviously, we service it ourselves. It drives really well and apart from replacing an AC compressor and condenser for the upcoming hot summer, its been faultless. Nearly every customer who uses it wants to buy it!

This is the basic S model. Heater knobs and one button for A/C. 5-speed gearbox. Passat S was also the only version that did not have the dash drinks drawer, and it's better off without one. The mechanism would often jam if someone was heavy-handed at pressing into the dash, and spillages often made the mechanisms sticky.

We have a 07 plate Passat estate in black 1.9TDi, it’s our second car, it Just goes and goes, it’s got tonnes of room in the back, it’s like an old Friend, it cost us £550, we bought it with 4 winter tyres on it, the front wings are a bit corroded, but other than that it’s very comfy and brilliant on fuel, I don’t worry about parking it, and would rather drive it than my wife’s new Audi Q3.

1.9 PD bulletproof, 2.0 PD almost as good. 1.9's came with 6 speeds in Australia except the polo, Passat only got DSG I think. Theres a 1.9 Polo here that has 300k original belt flood damaged to steering wheel and still going since no MOT's needed in Victoria (State) shes still going, truly a bulletproof motor.

I've got a B6 myself, had it from a year or so old and is a 2007 model year like this one. it's had it's faults and I've done plenty of preventative maintenance over the years but in fairness it's now done 165k and is sweet as a nut. mine's a 'Sport' spec but has a number of OE upgrades including MFSW, apple carplay OE head unit, colour instrument cluster, SEL alcantara seats and lots of subtle mods. it's cost me far more than I'd ever get back for it but that's the fun of cars. Still beats several other modern cars in its class for boot space (beats even a modern 5 series) and its shape means its ridiculously practical. I've slept in mine twice when we did a 24hr kart race at Daytona MK
