There’re a great bike , very rare in Europe , we got the Xbr500 , same engine with 45 bhp , an extremely tuneable engine as it’s the same series as the 650 dominator and XL /XL Good video , enjoy your bikes

My dad had one of these. I bought him a White Brothers carm and pipe for it. That perked it up a lot. Unlike say, an Ascot, the GB500 has a lot of interesting parts and details to look at. The Pipe and Carb really perked it up. After he passed away, it went back to stock and was sold. I sold the pipe and carb to someone in Netherlands. My experience with the non radial valve 500 is short life span crap. The Ascot I bought bew got a new piston on its 6 month warranty.

Keep a check on the underside of the swinging arm at the engine end, as they rot out and you try and find a replacement.

It helps to drain carbs if they sit, especially if ethanol is included. The motors last OK if you dont run them hard. Honda knew what they had when there was a 6 month warranty.

I mean this motor has been used in many other application, I've seen these bikes with 50k miles on them beat and still running.

Adjust the carburetor mixture screw underneath the carb. Turn it up when its cold and turn it down when its warmed up. You have two GB's...!!!!! Nice! I'd never sell my 98.

I believe the screw is for the idle underneath. But I’ve found out that i definitely will need to clean the car out shouldn’t have to play with the screw every time. Also if you ever do sell it, let me know lol.

Great bike, I still regret selling mine. I bought a 1989 new in 1992. I was living in Nashville and a local dealer had this still sitting in inventory unsold. For reference, the original MSRP was more like $4,200, almost the same price as a CBR600R Hurricane. It was a tough sell for a 500 single with a drum rear brake and no fairing for most of the market.I paid $2,500 new as they wanted to get rid of it. Alas, moves, family changes, and life intervened and I sold it a few years later.

Damn. I would never sell this bike, I feel like the crb was a different demographic tho from someone who’d buy a gb. But i suppose those people realized too late.

The Hurricane was very different but it spoke to the level of performance and technology one could get for the same money as the GB500 in the day. It was a tough sell in the US where size and performance seem to matter more. In the Midwest, with long straight roads the GB was just out of its element, though I had mine in Grad School in Ann Arbor and found some great roads.

Yah I got what you were saying for sure. There definitely are some great roads out here in the Midwest just have to look for them.

Since the success of the Royal Enfield Classic 500, several manufacturers have recreated old school versions, I thought it was spectacular when Yamaha revived the Sr 400 and recently came Honda's response by bringing back the GB 350 s with the engine to match being an air cooled Long Stroke the only strange thing is that Honda normally used 4 valves but in this engine it uses 2 which makes it even more classic with that slow heart beat, however the story doesn't end here they say that Honda will bring back the GB500! I was immediately excited to think that it was going to be a version similar to this motorcycle, the Gb 500 TT, however they say that the engine to be used will be the one from the cb 500😢 If so, I'm going to be really disappointed with Honda, is that difficult to understand? that the engine is the heart, the first element to awaken certain emotions and they will ruin everything by putting in a liquid-cooled twin cylinder used in other models😔 If they wanted to make a twin cylinder to put in the GB model, the least that could be expected would be something like engine from the Kawasaki w800, now putting an engine that has nothing classic in a model with a classic design, not for me👎.. You have a very valuable motorcycle that is really worth keeping👍

Thing is the probably can not make a single 500 air cooled motor anymore. Modern emissions will require them to make them liquid cooled. There have been rumors of a new gb500 for a long time, I do not believe they will make one.

Yah that’s what I’m thinking. I haven’t turned the fuel screw or done anything actually, my dad knows this bike well so I’m waiting for him to take a look at it.
