It's going to be a cold winter! I take it you have a hook up if you're installing a large TV then. Mooring fees in Manchester city centre must be at a premium though yes? You need to get a cooking pot and a kettle to use on top of the fire / stove. Imagine that is def a 4ft small double. I wouldn't leave clothes outside in a box, will get ruined - treat it more like a shed. Also, will need plenty of ventilation under the bed - or mould will strike - although, mould will be a constant battle all round.

I’ve got a washing machine, microwave, cooker, hob.. so yep.. life of luxury here 😂 managed a hook up! Box has next to nout in at the minute. Have to wait for days off to do more proper sorting!! Turns out.. full size double bed. Measured up right. So good lol. Is not bad ventilation in it to be fair.. plenty of work in progress here 👍🏻

Turn your bed around , putting it across boat , then can have small double and walk at side open underneath for plastic boxes for cloth storage , have you checked the hull and under the floor make sure is dry , the iron fire has to have proper insulation around and under to get your licence of safety , these things to be done first , esthetics come second , good luck .

Watch latter videos.. bed isn’t so simple.. it’s the current in-line job 😂 plus can’t rotate it as width of boat isn’t enough. The boat also has its safety certificates etc. later videos go in to info on all 👍🏻

Change the bathroom door to a pocket door (you are going to redo the shower walls to tile anyway), and it will allow you to have a full sized sink instead of that ridiculous hand basin. A pocket door added to the wall behind the stove / heater and the bathroom would be an easy way to separate the bedroom and bathroom space from the living space (likely easier than putting a wall in the hallway with a tiny door).

Many congratulations, you’re a very brave man buying without first seeing your boat! There are some lovely bathroom fixtures available, ours is lovely & bright with a big shower cubicle, I’m disabled but it was already fitted for the chap that was due to buy it new but something stopped him so his misfortune was our good fortune. I’d definitely get rid of the mattress though but that’s just me being finicky. The bed needs to be slatted wood under the mattress to ventilate it, there appears to be mould there already so you need to rip that stuff under the mattress out asap. Is it possible to get out of the windows in the bedroom in case of emergency? Do you have a mooring, may have missed you saying this.
@HistoricHospitality
@HistoricHospitality Жыл бұрын
Bed isn’t ideal. I will be looking at it. They used a very well used mattress. Eww. Definitely no mould. Good inspection. I renovated Victorian houses and basements riddled.. so is something I got actually good at lol. There are tonnes of windows in the little boat. One in bedroom. Single glaze 1970s mech. I’m safe! Will be safety devices of fire and burger types added also. Mooring is permanent in Manchester.

Congratulations and welcome to the waters. Your narrowboat looks nice and wow that fire area is gorgeous. As an idea, could you possibly remove the shower wall, not the one with the fire behind it but the other one as it may give you more room and create a more of a walkthrough bathroom. Just a thought. We renovated our boat over an 8mnths period at weekends and now live on her full time as continous cruisers. We love it as I'm sure you will 😊

Oh new subby here Im looking forward to see what you do, it as very nice narrowboat for sure I have seen some Horror stories so this looks great, as for carpet I think bad idea, a runner would be good as you can take it out in the summer and give it a good clean on deck, carpets in small places seem to attract moisture and smells from kitchen and so on. Would you consider using those beaded curtains as a block off between bedroom as again it will feel very hot in summer time as no air flow, xxx Dede

Oh I agree, but if you colour above the gunwales the sides will close in. Also be careful in the galley area, wall units seem obvious, but try to avoid for the same reason, it closes the space (there we use a laundry rack as an open shelf as it also allows the light to pass). Narrowboats are different for design, trust me. Go to have a look around many of them and take notes for how the space feels when you're inside it and then try to work out why... If you try to apply apartment design rules you'll be left feeling very cramped. Everything should have at least two functions, and how ever much storage space you think you need, double it! Enjoy :D@@HistoricHospitality

Nice to meet you and see your first vlog. A bit concerning that you have no escape hatch, fire extinguishers etc - did you get a Boat Safety inspection done? Recommend that you research a reputable boat yard to help you think through ideas about renovating the boat. I would rip out the inside completely and start from scratch. There are lots of ways to make best use of your very small space. Also concerned about the hull and making sure it’s completely watertight - did you get a full survey? Best wishes from a fellow narrow boat owner.

Good luck with your journey, we took the plunge 2years ago and it’s great fun, “ however” it’s NOT a flat or house and is a very very different, I’m a retired house builder and Boats are very different- if you want any tips feel free to get in touch I will gladly share our experience so hopefully you won’t fall in some of the cracks we did, I know your not on salt water but there’s still a LOT of SHARKS out there, also, I didn’t get your name. Yep. Appreciate that. But an interior can transcend. Just have to be creative 😉 similar weird projects in the past. This is more cosmetic change and some practical movement of things. Also came with plenty of paperwork, new boiler etc etc. checked out by relatives in mechanised industries and such. But I’m a realist and expect the worst.. ever disappointed that way 😉 thanks for the line! - Pete is me also ha! More about me on next one!

Pls look under ur floorboards &see if there is any water, as well as in the engine room. Seeing that you mentioned the wood in the living room having beveled upwards. There should be several small access doors usually hidden inside cuboards on the floor, so one can check. There is an alarm one can set inside of these access recesses, which will let u know if there is ever any water accumulating. Also, its been mentioned by others, the round holes under the mattress for ventilation are a must. I understand you dismissed quite a few suggestions cause of houses you blah blah blah ... and you seem to believe that there is no difference & you know it all already. I know you be suprised to learn but a boat aint a house. So heed some of the advice, ppl gave, maybe read up on it before you dismiss em all (google is a friend). If you are unsure if its true, its a great way to find out. Plus when you dismiss everyones helpful suggestions- dont be surprised if few people will be willing to interact on your videos going forward. Here are a few more of my suggestions. Make sure that the changes you make fall within guidlines, cause otherwise you have trouble renewing your boat safety cert. Be good to read up on those first, cause its shitty to redo things. Btw I didnt see a fire extinguisher or fire blanket, maybe I overlooked it? Both have to be on board. When you read through the boat safety certificate website, you can find where the best placement for them are. You will also need to keep things balanced, weight wise. Not sure how that storage under your bed will work out, because of said weight balance. Wouldnt plan on adding anything heavy under there. I also didnt see any ventilation under there- but I may be wrong. I would revamp all of it, cause I wouldnt want to hang clothing I need every day under there. Who would seriously want to crawl around under the bed on the knees first thing before work, just to find what to wear? Nah doll, thats just crazy. I prob revamp most of the boat. Now, you said you dont like the toilet, you do have a couple other options, but it seems there is prob no black water holding tank, so you will have to go with either a cassette toilett & empty the contents at the appropriate places in the Marina. Or go with a separating toilet. The composting toilets are not so convenient. I believe disposing of composting waste in the bins isnt allowed anymore. So unless you know someone who is willing to compost your body waste for you, they are a no go now a days. But again google is your friend on what will work best for you &the space you have /need for ventilation etc.. Now, I am not sure if I missed the fridge? If I did welcome to the 12 Volt appliances hunt. Same with adding a larger TVs etc. You may want to talk to a boat electrician especially if you plan on ever cruising the cut. That way he can check over your system, batteries, inverter etc. And make sure its safe &adequate. Cause if there is a storm and the water rises, you may have to disconnect from shore power& rely on your batteries. So its important to keep em maintained even if you do not plan on cruising. Also well - again - safety. Anyways there is plenty info about all this as said online though& more than enough reading material on everything in books, and print & how to maintain everything as well. You know, just in case, you realize, you may need to read up on some of it. A helmsman course is a great intro to learn how to handle, drive& take care of your boat& also learn some knots&how to tie your boat correctly if the water rises, or how to tie your boat, after you cruised. Its well worth the roi. Since you got single pan glass, a battery glass cleaner is the way to go, cause condensation, condensation, condensation is not your friend. I noticed you mentioning the single pan glass when talking about emergency exits. Just cause they are single pan, doesnt mean in an emergency you be able to easily break em, especially in a bedroom, where most ppl do not keep tools. But you do you. Certainly a window breaker hanging next to several windows is an option. But have you ever tried breaking, exiting, or entering of one of your car windows? Try it one of these days, cause you may think its easy. In an emergency there wont be much difference between em. So be good practice since you dismissed the emergency exit. Have fun with your new boat though! I know - I know you already knew all about everything I wrote& prob will tell me so with your comment.

Boat was fully serviced and does have new burner, boiler etc. the floor wasn’t laid too well. I’ve had it in current rental where mopping water gets down in to it and this happens. Mostly where water sits on a joint while not sealed in.

Welcome, it's already been upgraded, so why didn't you buy a crappy boat, if you intended to rip most of the interior out?
@HistoricHospitality
@HistoricHospitality Жыл бұрын
I’m not ripping out any interior. I’ve not said I am. Was possibility to reduce kitchen length as it has no living room space. That’s not a definite anyhow. Pictures and videos are deceiving when it comes to white. It’s not as clean a finish as this video suggests. Also, we all have personal taste. Hospital walls isn’t really mine 👍🏻 for one, kitchen worktops are miss-matched. Silicone in bathroom very messy done and so on.
