My father bought me my first VCR in 1985,when I was 11! It was an Emerson 2 head player with a remote control that was wired with like a 15-20 foot cord! It cost about $400,which was an inexpensive player at the time! My first blank tape was about $15 for a single tape!...Thanks Dad!!

I didn't even know that even VHS tapes are having region stuff just like DVDs and Blu-rays. thanks for uploading this because I should track down the same VCR as yours that has NTSC playback so I can import lots of American Godzilla VHS releases.
@Gondarth4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's because American VHS tapes play at a different, slightly slower speed compared to UK releases. It's all technical, I have no idea how it works, but that's how it is.
@joesSONICBOOM4 жыл бұрын
@@Gondarth I agree, technical stuff works. I still collect a lot of VHS tapes either from car boot sales or most commonly on eBay and Amazon, especially movies that have not seen a release on DVD/Blu-ray.

I don't know why VCR/DVD combos are so expensive given from what I've heard the VCR part in a lot of them is crap. I mean many of them came out near the end of VHS's life and are often made of cheaper parts, and they are not easy to repair if something goes wrong (usually if it goes rogue and start eating tapes). Saying that my main VCR (and the only one in my house that works) is a combo unit from Samsung (DVD-VR330), the DVD part died about 8 years ago (I recently cleaned the laser and it still doesn't work) but the VCR is built like a tank, I mean it's had many warn tapes and years of abuse and it still works.
@Gondarth2 жыл бұрын
They're probably expensive because of supply and demand. They're not super common, but they're usually recordable, so they're useful in that regard, but if they break easily, you'll need to get another. The price tag could also be how more advanced they are. Don't hold me to this. I'm not sure 😄 It's true though, basic VCRs may be more simple, but they're reliable and quite often are built to last. My main VCR is 23 years old, it has been through extensive use, it has even chewed up a tape or two, but it still works perfectly.

I love VHS tapes and all of that old stuff. I'm from Poland and I buy my first vcr(combo) a month ago it is Philips dvp3100v. It has a lot of scrathes and problems with reading dvd's but I cleaned a laser and now it work perfectly.I bought it for 200 zł

Not bad. I bought a VCR/DVD combo about 6 months ago in order to transfer VHS recordings. It was more confusing than it needed to be, so I just returned it for a refund and bought a DVD recorder.

@@matrock6656 Yeah, speaking as something who grew up in the VHS era, there's something special about VHS releases that doesn't exist on DVD. It has a charm that's hard to replicate on a disc. If you're willing to sacrifice a bit of visual quality for some nostalgic appeal, you're good to go.

That’s interesting, I got my current VCR/DVD Combo from a yard sale for USD $1 back in 2016. And as of 2020, it’s up for nearly $70. But under 30 quid for your new vcr? SCORE! Maybe if you’re having better luck with this VCR, why not try those unplayable recordable tapes seen in previous video memories along with trying some tape cleaner? 😁
@Gondarth4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it didn't have a remote control, but for that money, it was definitely a win for me... As for unreadable videos, I went and tested that Nick Jr video I mentioned in "Thomas On TV" and "Subscription Television". It worked as well as I expected. Nothing on it. I suspect, if nothing happens on the original VCR, it's probably not gonna be any different on the new one.
