I Bought a Nintendo Switch Lite in 2024 - Still Worth it?

I had the Switch Lite for a few years after its release in 2019. Fast forward and I moved to the OLED version. Gotta be honest I miss the Lite. I play mostly handheld and it really is the best handhold only system I’ve ever used. Just preordered the Zelda Hyrule Edition Lite and really can’t wait to get my hands on it now.

In my country, one of our biggest video game retailers in Data Blitz (basically my country’s GameStop) has all Switch models permanently marked down. So the Switch Lite is at roughly $155 converted, and the OLED is at $245. I recently upgraded to the OLED from my standard V2 Switch and I have no regrets. I got a further discount on the OLED so I got it for around $237. For me, the Switch Lite’s pure handheld mode was a dealbreaker as even though I play in handheld 90% of the time, I still use docked mode quite often especially when I have friends over. That really is my only problem with the Lite, as everything else about it I still think is fantastic. I would have been perfectly fine with the Lite’s smaller size (esp since my hands are on the smaller side) if it had an option to be docked, even via one of those USB C to HDMI converter plugs.

I got my NS Lite for a similar price and a grip case for it and it's been a pleasure trying out the Nintendo 1st party games I missed out on, like BoTW and Kirby. The combo of PS5 with PS+ Extra and NS Lite are keeping me satisfied, both of them have heavy hitters when it comes to 1st party titles.

Way back when the Lite came out, I picked it up new at the time but then traded it for the OLED. Then later on when I started to travel and go around more often, I bought another Lite second hand and found one for roughly 75 bucks. It was rough around the edges. A child clearly handled it but I was happy and missed how small and handy this thing is. The screen is noticeable when compared to an OLED but for travel, it fits into a pack very nicely and for specific games, I don't mind the smaller screen

It's crazy how expensive things are in the states. In my country, the limited edition Switch Oled TOTK, Splatoon, and Mario editions went on sale from 340 to 220 USD and I still didn't buy one because of Switch 2 rumors coming out late this year or early next year.

@@FranchisePlayyer I bought one about two years ago for the main switch and then got another for my lady as well as one of those docked mode joycon grips (I wish they made it detachable). I waited a long while for them to get together one for the steam deck which turned out to be crucial albeit a ripoff of dbrand. Also got another color for her recently. Needless to say, I like their grips. They're the best on the market and I even 3d printed satisfye grip offs for my other handhelds. Not perfect but still the best.

I just bought the same one from Walmart a few days ago. I've had an OG Switch for years, but the price was so good I couldn't refuse. So far I really like the Lite. The size and weight is great, the buttons feel nice, and of course the almighty d pad. Also the textured surface feels really nice compared to the original. Too bad Animal Crossing doesn't support cloud save transfers, so now I have to decide which Switch to play it on.

I bought a switch lite for my wife for $50. It had stick drift but it’s really not that hard to swap the sticks and you can get Hall effect sticks. These are great options and now my kids are getting them as well.

The size, weight and feel are what sold me. I have a Splatoon 3 Oled edition switch and I never reach for that anymore. The Lite is the best form factor by far. Really don't need a 7 or 8 inch screen. I think as far as overall ergonomics go, the Lite is the best handheld ever made thus far.

You can find tons of Switch lites at a pawnshop for $100 USD or less. I got a used one with Physical copies of Animal Crossing and Mario Kart for $100 tax included. I have other handhelds that are far more powerful than the Lite, but this is the one I take with me because you get roughly 3 hours of battery at worst on a charge, and it's easy to play in short or long bursts. Plus you have a library of 4500 games to pick from. I have a few physical games but probably 200 digital games as well.

Picked up my first switch lite when the BDSP version dropped. I enjoyed it but was not playing a lot of the games that were really good because I felt like they were gonna be better with a dock. Finally after 2 years of owning it I swapped to the OLED pokemon SV version and if I’m being honest I miss my lite. That may be crazy talk but I rarely ever play docked and even with big hands I still felt that the lite was more comfortable. Gonna see if I can find one for a reasonable price. Probably won’t give up my OLED until I here more about the rumored upcoming console

Bought the NS lite 2023 animal crossing edition but in teal colorway with free physical game included. In my opinion if someone is just buying any nintendo switch in 2024, choose the model that recently released like these animal crossing switch lite version and the oled mario edition OR wait until the release of Zelda variant NS Lite, for the reason that you'll have a peace of mind knowing that the hardware inside your console are built in the 2nd/3rd quarter of 2023 or late 2024-ish if you go with Zelda NS lite. Everything isn't stale in short, like the battery is not sitting for years inside the console like the early colorways of the switch lites, that way I think you're giving yourself a real bang for the buck 👌 My switch lite is consistently giving me a little over 3hours of gameplay in DB figherz, Resident Evil Revelation, Diablo 3 while being connected to wifi, 8bitdo lite 2 controller, Bluetooth speakers or earbuds (depends on my gaming mood).

My brother has a lite and he loves it. We have an oled we share but we decided to get a second system with its own account incase one of us is on the oled. We had thought about another oled by my brother said he wanted to try the switch lite and he loves it. He used to playing handheld consoles on small system since ds and psp/vita. I wish they would come out with switch lite oled cause love if they stretched out screen like they did with the oled. Maybe some better thumbstick as not fan of them. BUt with thumbstick caps it can help. Here hoping to see what nintendo. I am thinking having my brother get me a lite for Christmas with micro-sd card and decent grip case to go with it. While some people tell me get some these handhelds im seeing come out, at least with switch i can buy physical copies of games i like if available, not just purely digital like these other handhelds that keep coming out. Just something nice about having physical games in your consoles library.

the Nintendo eShop has some good deals, they have some jrpg and resident evil series on sale right now. if the digital sale is 50-80% less than the physical game. It's difficult to say no to digital. Resident evil 4 looks great on the switch lite. i picked the same timmy tommy edition from walmart at $160 is to good of a deal to pass up and its my first Nintendo handheld. target did have mario Odyssey for $35 and walmart had Zelda breath of the wild for $30. the sales don't last long, couple of days maybe. for example star ocean second story r was on sale for $30 at gamestop new the other day, now its back up to $50. anyways good review!

My only real con is the drift WHEN it happens for the Lite. You need to send in the entire console for an unknown time until it gets repaired and that WILL suck. I do have the OLED to fall back to but the fact that drift still happens for the Switch is unacceptable.

Switch is not a modern console or modern gaming and i would definitely choose a series S over this as the best deal in gaming. I have the OG switch and it was outdated when it released back in 2017, but it’s still a good console with great games. I would just hold off for the next Nintendo console.

Biggest con is it uses the same exact analog sticks with drift ...and as someone who has repaired several it's a total pain on the lite if it's out of warranty. Honestly I've worked on laptops that are easier to deal with. Also far as switch online goes,yeah it's cheaper but paying to use your own Internet to begin with is a scam. It's insane the consoles still do this at all. Were it not for Splatoon online not sure i'd bother. Especially the emulated games....any phone can run those better and for free. Definitely think the switch itself is still way worth it though overall.

You only get like barely..... 2 hours of battery life on the lite model.... Mine averaged 1 hour and maybe... 25 minutes... Tops so your gonna want to keep this thing plugged in permanently.... Let's also not forget how convenient it is having the charging port on the bottom so it can't be setup properly to play while charging...

You sure it isn't a battery problem? What games do you play on it? Because I play monster hunter rise and get 4 to 5 hours of play time. Depends how much it's been charging but at 90% you can get 4 hour's or 3 hours easily. You should check that out

The gripping on lite is different with the original switch or oled. Lite feels intact while the latter feels a little bit loose. A Nintendo switch lite with oled screen would've been perfect
