Very excited for this episode. I wanted on of these so badly in the 80's I was in HS in 1985 and had a poster of an Odyssey in the desert, right next to my Heather Locklear poster :)

When everyone thinks about Hondas motors they think 4 stroke but Honda made one of the first reliable 2 strokes in the world. Plus when the Elsinore 125 and 250 came out they became known as a ultra high performance 2 stroke manufacturer. I rode a Elsinore the first year they came out and I can remember my smiles it gave me!

That brake master cylinder is actually designed to pull. The arms act as 2 independent fulcrum on the same pivot point. When you squeeze the brake levers, they pull one side and the opposite side depresses the plunger. That's why they don't push down. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to hear the exhaust note on that DG pipe.

I drove one of those for a weekend in 1986 and it was probably the coolest thing out there at the time, and a blast to ride. I picked up another one around 2016 that was in pretty decent shape. I repaired everything that was wrong with it and then took it out for a ride. Compared to the machines we have today it's really not that great 😆 Awesome vid!

Approaching 40 years now with this...there was a facility in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada that rented these just like at a plain old asphalt rental go kart track but it was on a very dry and dusty track without googles! Killer! As an ATV guy & a Honda guy - These Odysseys are where it's at! A decade or 2 ago, "Moses Mountain" in Maravia, NY used to have a fleet of them.. They 'rented time' for either horses or buggies. Of course I chose the buggies.. We'd ride em' like we stole em', and paid for it.. haha [I still have scars on my spine from it rubbing the seats so bad] Still worth every second. They Should have replaced em' with Honda Pilots, but nope.. They sat, rotted, and finally sold.. Hopefully whoever got them all put em' to use. They're way too much fun to let em' just sit. Congrats on the find/buy, great job breathing some new life into yours, and Have Fun!

I can't believe that the previous owner was going to part out a machine as nice as this. They're generally so clapped out I can't believe what people ask for them in "one piece". I had the earlier version of that, the red one, bought it brand new! No rear suspension, barely any front suspension either, the CV clutch did not like water at all! We had so much fun on that machine, get someone standing on the back(do not attempt this at home) and ride wheelies forever! I worked construction and lived on a huge east coast egg farm as security and would use it for hauling things around the construction site. Between each coop was a swale to drain rain water from between the coops. One evening I was out “patrolling” and there was a crew of winos pulling old hens and I was showing off a little. Recent rains had deepened the swale and I stuffed the nose of that Odyssey into the far side of the swale, causing it to endo violently! I wasn’t wearing a helmet and wasn’t belted in! My head went out the top of the roll bar and slammed into the dirt just before the roll bar got there. I still suffer the affects of my stupidity thirty five years later! Just bought a KTM adventure bike and now wear all the protection, every time! You finding any mushrooms on your property, young fella? I picked 48 today!

I got an 85 sitting in my back shed , I blew it up about 13 years ago ,and there it sets. Would love to rebuild it but time and money, actually saw a set of them for sale on market place in Potsdam ny for $7,000. One running and one for parts

Cool project. Honda must have known these would become bigger and more popular in the future (UTV). Is there a way to check that the frame is straight before you weld it?

Glad this was saved. I remember these. What I heard was the free air cooled engine in the back had heat issues. I never understood why they did not go with a 500cc water cooled single.

This just came out at the wrong time. Today folks think nothing of dropping 15 large on a side by side sport. Back then we looked at the price of one and shook our heads. You could buy two ATCs or a couple quads for one of these. I’ve seen several of the 250s converted over to water cooled snowmobile engines.
