Im here to learn. My father passed down all his welding equipment to me when he got sick. Trying to learn to tig with a brand new syncrowave 351. Ended ended up with his 220 mig, his old stick, this, plasma cutter and about 3 torch setups

That's an older transformer (buzz box) type of machine. Probably 20 years old or more. I have one. The newer inverter machines are much easier to use and dial in, plus they run on less amperage for a given weld. Your machine is a reliable old beast with less to go wrong with it. If you really want a challenge, try welding 1/8" aluminum plate on the AC mode. Lots of videos out there to help you succeed. Your local community college can also help train you in this area.

I've been using this almost daily for a few years now. Aluminum is difficult but not impossible.

Just a suggestion from a long time Fabby, when welding any type especially TIG welding you want to make sure that your hand holding the torch has a resting place to keep the torch head and the tungsten as steady as possible! Most of the time with TIG welding you want the tip of the tungsten as close to the material as possible without touching it so to do that you must have great control of your torch head!

Always solid advice. Since getting this machine a few years ago now the skills have greatly increased

I did some welding in the subframe of the CX500 today and oh man, where has this been all my life! Quality is a big focus and this enables me to get to that next level.

Do a vid on settings for al and steel .I just bought a 180 SD like that and there’s very few vids on that model.I feel like the guy studying for a GED on Shaw Shank Reduction movie 😂

🤣🤣🤣 Love the reference. I actually don't feel very confident giving settings as I'm no pro even 3 years later.

@@chuckymonster1000 I have a really hard time finding any info on it too. I'd say pull a cover and it should be obvious. May be a diagram inside

I have the same machine. What settings did you have it for that tubing?
@BrickHouseBuilds3 жыл бұрын
This being a year ago I dont know. I likely had it set too high just getting the feel for it. Anything steel wise less than 1/8" im usually a max of 70 amps. Thinner and im around 40 max using silica bronze filler
