Hi Sam, A few things come to mind, here. First of all, you lucked out and got a good delivery guy. At first glance, you got a real deal on this car. I think you're right that something on that front corner is amiss. Something unseen broke, bent or came undone. It's going to be comparatively easy and cheap to get this car up and running. Best of luck and congratulations on your find!
@ruk2023--5 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying but you can't say "something unseen is broke" and then assert that it will be comparatively cheap to fix. It would be great if it was but something expensive (to do an a professional body shop) must have broken for it to be salvaged. Or maybe the insurance adjuster was just having a bad day and wrote it off lol.
@THOMMGB5 жыл бұрын
@@ruk2023-- Hi Ralph, I still think it will be comparatively easy and cheap to fix a car that's already driveable. I would think that if Sam only had to pay $3,000 to $5,000 to fix whatever is wrong underneath his car, that would still make this car a great deal lol. But in reality, I guess we'll just have to wait for Sam to get it up and running. Sam is a great scrounger and has lots of contacts, so I'm sure he'll find whatever parts are necessary at a very reasonable price. Knowing him, it will probably be even cheaper than my low end $3000 estimate lol.
@writerboz5 жыл бұрын
@@THOMMGB I think Ralph's point is there's no basis for a repair budget yet. Throwing darts until there's some diagnosis of the problem. Could $3-5k be reasonable? Maybe. Just as likely as $25-30k. As others have said, it would most likely be a bent or cracked frame/subframe given it's not readily visible. Audi is a little picky about their frame repairs from what I know. Might be a challenge to DIY. I'll be interested to see what the fault was that caused it being totaled.
@ruk2023--5 жыл бұрын
@@writerboz Exactly my point. Logic dictates that insurance companies as a rule don't write off 80 grand cars because of a cracked under tray. It would be awesome if they had in this case though.

Not all cars in a transport truck are salvaged. I have had several cars transported from one place to another. The driver picks up cars from many different places along his path to your state where he/she will drop yours off and then go drop off someone else's. Or to a dealer.

Had the same issue with a R8 with a dead battery this spring, couldn't get under the hood because there were no power, and the latch was broken off. If you remove the carpet in the passanger footwell, there is a plate covering some fuses and relays. Under that plate, locate the relay labeled 633 and remove it. The upper middle connector, should be a vertical connector (labeled 30 on the relay), is connected directly to the battery, connect that to the plus side of a battery charger, and connect the negative side to some random grounded component, most electronics should start to light up, and you should be able to open the hood via the remote. Then just remove the charger, connect the relay again and change out the battery. This might trigger some error that needs to be removed with VCDS or simular, but I found it to be the fastest way to get into the hood of a dead R8.

I did actually total my car. Everyone is telling me to just scrap it however I want to put the effort to fix especially since I have the knowledge. You are my main inspiration for taking on this project. Would you be willing to give an opinion on how do I go about doing that if I send you pics and the back story? Pretty please? 😊 Edit : I think your best option is to shop around for service records or police records. The next order of business would be to inspect the underside for signs of play.. Usually if a car is being totaled out they won't go through the effort of putting it back together after inspecting it.. But TBH I have a feeling that what you referred to as funny feeling suspension will be a control arm or cracked frame where the strut attaches.. So look at the frame where the suspension attaches first.

Samcrac With that year and miles that car is worth 70 ish so the damage would have to 25 to 35k in damage. Something is wrong with that car underneath. They won’t total it for nothing. Rear subframe is bent or broke or something.

Hook up a battery jumper/charger that works through the cigarrete lighter port in the car! That may get you extra juice to possibly actuate the 2nd latch buddy. :)

@theAppleWizz5 жыл бұрын
it's a mechanical latch not electronic with that wire
@1blisslife5 жыл бұрын
theAppleWizz it HAS a motor which is electrical &. Yes... not electronic, but last time I checked electrical motors require electricity . The connection I'm talking about supplies electricity to the car through the cigarrete lighter port (12-14 volts). So that it can add more power to the latch motor to open the hood since the battery is dead. You don't know what I'm talking about in that last comment obviously. That string he pulls actuates a set of motors for the latch & you can clearly hear them run in the video.

Tell the good and the bad...... I've been using Coparts for 9 years and I've gotten more bad than good luck on my purchases. Got a Tahoe that had frame damage and wasn't reported, spent so much money restoring that truck I just kept it... Got a Honda CBR 1000 that was claimed to start but couldn't because it had water in the gas tank and engine. Got a Dodge pick up truck that had so much more wrong than what was listed I had to sell for parts. At some Coparts lots the workers steal parts off the vehicles, especially the electronic. NY Coparts Tax the crap out of you!. The only lucky purchase I ever got from Coparts was a Ford Econoline I got for way under price and made a 10,000 dollar profit on.... ROLL THE DICE...

Learning 101 (For those of you who want to get into business and have some fun): Copart receives X final value fees for selling vehicles based on the winning bid. The more members that are added, the more competitive bids sellers will get, driving up the final value fees that are charged to customers. Therefore, if Copart pushes more sponsorships into channels that contain a majority of prospective buyers, the demand for certain vehicles will raise and so will the price. If Copart pushes to far into bringing on more sellers, there will be too many cars and a lot of sellers will be disappointed because there's not enough traffic on their website for their content to be viewed. Every car has it's pretty close to exact value ceiling that must be met as much times as possible to ensure a smooth running company. Therefore, create demand first, fulfill demand, create demand, fulfill demand and keep doing that.
