This is such a cute idea, thanks so much for doing this demo video. And you're right, that wooden needle is really cool.

Saw you with this loom and added it to my personal Christmas list. I have one frame loom, but this one looks like fun. Thanks!

I often take my standing loom to school for the children 6/7 year olds. I use a different yarn for the warp and alternate the colors so that they remember under blue over red.

Thanks. I also enjoyed the music variety. I m sure you take the time to pick just the right thing to go with the video- I appreciate the time you take to do that. 🎉

Yes, I try to do that 😊 Some people really don't like music in videos so I try to keep it as listening friendly as possible, while suiting the activity at the same time. Thanks for noticing!

I would love to see something different done on this loom. I am thinking of maybe buying my good friend (The Art Teacher) at my old school one of these toy looms for her classroom. Every year since I retired, she asks me to come to the end of the year Art Show with my loom and the kids take turns weaving on my loom. This toy one would be great for the classroom.

I would like to see you do a tapestry on it.....i too got this loom at a thrift store I haven't had time yet to use it other than set it up it is amazing how fast things become a collection I have four children looms so far and that isn't counting three pin looms and assorted frame looms I envision having them all set together. So watching you do this I thought hmmmm fabric strips, or bulky yarns also as you were sewing I thought I wonder if they could be done like pot holder edge or crocheted similarly..... I knew you had the one child loom now I need to go see if you have any like mine they have wood cut that goes across those one way warp goes up then turn again and the other goes up thought that was very clever..i have a weaver's delight rug loom and a floor loom that is unlabeled eight harness from 1900 the bench seat was made from the woman's Childs crib the loom was first purchased as a kit with four harness' then later added four more. Then I have a table loom four Barnes and an inkle loom that is a floor one.....mind you long ago before we had kids we would walk together and would always go by a small house that the lady hung a sign out that said rug weaver since those decades ago I always wanted to be a rug weaver then goodwill had this weaver's delight but wanted like $350.00 well no way could we afford that still can't but I would go in and drool on it then one day a friend called said she was there I said can you go drool on it for me she said you need to come it is marked down I said even half price we can't afford it she did no they marked again to get it out se we went and got it for 70.00. Still tight but we did it mind you I had to take it apart to get it inside and then totally fix it up all the other looms other then kid ones were gifts from my sister big difference from rug loom but learning lots have an overshot scarf going now.frugalmeasures.blogspot.com/2024/04/preparedness-when-properly-pursued-is.html. You can see looms here and the day my sis brought the floor loom here you can see loom undressed maybe you know what kind frugalmeasures.blogspot.com/2014/10/gifts-from-my-sister.html my sis is the blind I was in the flowered top looking horrendously tired as she gave me an all night crash course on how to weave.

I probably would have crocheted the side closed and crochet the handle. I also would left the long strings on and tied the bottom closed with them and braided or twisted them to make fringe. It’s pretty. Kind of looks like an ear of colorful corn.

I would appreciate a demo of tapestry on this loom. I have a similar one that I bought from IKEA a while back. If you doubled the warp in the slots, would you be able to weave at a greater EPI?
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova Күн бұрын
It's an interesting idea, but still wouldn't bring the warp threads closer together, which is what you would need for a finer sett on this loom.

When I double or triple the warps for a finer sett, I would add a row or two of twining at the bottom, to separate the double warps and even the spaces between the warps. @@KellyCasanova

I just looked at this loom on Amazon and saw that the one in their photo also has a wonky side stick, so it seems to be intentionally bent. It may be to make it easier to get the needle around it? It's there to take the yarn around for the selvedges to help prevent draw-in. I'm only 14 minutes in on the video, so perhaps you talk about this more later and I may have posted too soon.
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova Күн бұрын
Really?! Well, I didn't notice that and the instructions didn't say anything about why it might be intentionally wonky. I don't like it being wonky, I want it to be straight! 😆

Just a couple of thoughts. Could you get a longer project length by taking the warp all the way around the back and then up through the next notch? You might be able to loosen the tensioner knobs to move the work around when needed. Alternatively you could get a closer sett by doing the same thing, taking the warp all the way round, and then using a twining tapestry technique to bring the front and back yarns together and make them equidistant from each other.
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova Күн бұрын
I had thought along similar lines for a closer sett, could be worth a shot 😊

Can you double warp this loom? You could double your set, which could be something of a game changer.
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 3 сағат бұрын
Yes, you can definitely do that and it would make a difference but the warp would still be spaced pretty far apart.

Could you make placemats out of tapestry on this loom?
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 3 сағат бұрын
Yes, they would be thick placemats and you would need a chunky yarn.
