I purchases my 2015 model S 85 in March 2023, only 32,000 Km (20,000 miles) on the clock, free super charging for life and free connectivity for life. I love the car BUT 2 issues. 1) no door bins and no center console bin. 2) The rear end is very wide and is some times difficult to park in busy car parks. I know the 2024 model S has door bins now but we cannot get them in Australia.

So if I purchased a used 2015 s85 from a dealership it should have the free unlimited supercharging available? Assuming the owner that sold it to the dealer gave them the info to do so

Need the MCU2 upgrade + a few tricks to make the AP1 nag go away for that highway driving and it becomes a better car than most the modern Teslas due to their constant nag and interior cameras big brothering you. I personally really like AP1 for highway driving.
@theaverageev
@theaverageev 8 ай бұрын
I thought about the upgrade, but decided against it since I am not keeping this car for a long time. I would likely do it if I were going to keep it! The autopilot is ok, but I really don't like all of the logic. It sits too far to the left of the lane and while it has the ability to adjust to the cars around it within the lane, it is super delayed. Some times it will move over one way or the other after the car has already passed me, which is not ideal.

FYI, my 2015 Model S AutoPilot never has this problem of hugging lane lines. It stays dead center in the lane on the highway and works extremely well in the evening. I use it extensively during my yearly trip from Massachusetts to Florida down interstate 95. If you want, I'll post a video of my highway driving through i-95 with autopilot enabled. The only time it pulls left or right is when an adjacent vehicle gets too close, it will scooch over left or right to move away. So I'm guessing there needs to be some calibration with your particular Model S.

It is a great car! If you are looking at one I would take one of your parents along to see how easily they can get in and out. It does sit lower, and that might be an issue! I know people are hesitant about the ID.4, but it is pretty roomy and the seating height might be positioned for elderly. You can grab a 2021 under $20k, but just be aware the software isn't going to blow you away. The ride quality will though! Or maybe keep an eye on Model Y prices and see if any dip below $20k!

For my use case, I don't know if I would buy it again after living with it. Since it is so heavy, it isn't great efficiency-wise on the hills I drive on every day. On highways it isn't too bad efficiency-wise. The DCFC is super slow, so it is not an ideal road tripping vehicle. If you are just commuting with it, it would be fine! Do consider the potential repair costs as it is an older EV. If you want to roadtrip often, it would be worth at looking at an older Model 3 or other EV with faster charging and greater range!

Glad you posted this and you are enjoying it. I am thinking of trading my Model 3 for an elder S just because they are so darn cheap now and to get a lower payment plus tax credit. My hesitation is that I see stories of battery module and drive unit failures with the early cars and the 18650 cells and it makes me a little weary with the 8 year warranty on the 2015s and 2016s now expiring this year and next year. Your right to be concerned. If your educated and aware of the potential risks and your prepared for them, they're awesome. I own a 2014 MS 60 with 131k miles. It's been pretty rock solid for the 2 years I've owned it. It's bank vault quiet, no squeaks or rattles of any kind. The drive unit was replaced under warranty shortly before my purchase, the battery health was good according to recurrent, the front and rear control arms were also replaced before my purchase. I'm getting ready to drop it off at Tesla RIGHT NOW to have the drive unit replaced. There's coolant in the drive unit and it's a KNOWN issue. I'm out of warranty and the $6500 hit is all mine to take. The drive unit that was put in ~ 2.5 years ago, well when the 8 yr battery/drive unit warranty expired SO did any warranty coverage on the recently replaced drive unit. So here I am....about to drop it off to pay a $6500 bill, they'll have the car for who knows how long, loaner provided for this expensive fix for a known issue....negative. I love the car and intend to buy a NEW model 3 in 2024.....if I can make it there without losing my rear end!!! Drive units are a known issue on the older MS....it's not IF, it's WHEN. Prepare for that, be ready to absorb it.

The most interesting things about buying a used car, is the history of the purchase. Did you buy it from tesla? Did you buy it from a private owner? How many miles did it have on it? Not that interested all the little nitpicking interior details. I watched about half the video and gave up. Thank you and best wishes

I personally don’t see how those things are relevant since every used EV is going to have a different story and not be helpful to people looking into used EVs. Additionally, with the volatile used EV market the price would also be not helpful. I can certainly tell you in the comments, but I try to give my videos a decent “shelf life.” So talking about what the car includes and the interior is important my opinion. I got it for $20,000. It’s implied that it was from a dealer since I got the used EV tax credit. I believe the car was leased and was then purchased by the leasee and then eventually traded in to Tesla and then sent to auction. I stated the miles I believe 89300 or something like that? I would guess it doesn't support CCS chargers?

It does not currently. To be honest I’m not 100% if you can do the CCS retrofit on the older Model S, but that would allow access to CCS chargers.

hi is it good to purchase a used tesla s for doing uber eats?

I think you would be better off with something with better range and charging. If you want Tesla, an older Model 3. That way you could more easily top off between deliveries. If you are ok with non-Tesla, the Older Kona’s get great range in city driving. 4+ miles per kWh.

He should. All 2012-2016 model s and x have or had free supercharging for life. Prior owner may have lost it due to modifying car or it was damaged, or they used it for ride share which goes against free charge policy

As more time goes by most people are done with touchscreens and would prefer physical buttons again. It's just too demanding.

I’m pretty sure I was comparing it to my Kona? So I think it is fair to compare my experience of where I came from? But I do agree with you if I was just randomly comparing it with a new vehicle.
