Get some better filtration cichlids dirty and a power head, u don’t have enough surface agitation , as for the heater I agree turn it horizontal and lower it down below half the tank as when doing water changes u won’t have to unplug it, and heats water more efficiently

Congrats and welcome to the world of African cichlids. Your gonna love it!! The more you get into it and watch KZbin theore you'll enjoy this hobby. I've been in for a lil over a year and started off with mbuna until I was introduced to peas and haps. I would say look into peacock cichlids and I promise you you'll switch lol. It's a a great hobby man.

FYI you can put your heater horizontal, it'll work better and look better. Also if you get new fish grab a bucket and pour the back into your net. stripeyboi is def a bad boy probably bring it back.

The yellow with black stripe is a Auratus, that is a murder fish. It will not seem like it at that age, but when it matures in a couple months look out. Have a quarantine/hospital tank ready to treat injured fish or take him out and quarantine him. Other than that one your fine nice looking fish and nice tank. Good luck brother I love my Malawi cichlids

Be careful on stocking bro since you have a 55 gal. You have a Melanochromis auratus which is the striped one. Yellow Labs, and the big one O.B. is a female Trewavasea. The Auratus is the most aggressive out the 4 you have. Would keep an eye out on it as it grows, you could end up with some dead ones, just keep that in mind. Other than that nice tank bro. Welcome to the Hobby. Enjoy and have fun.

Hey bro nice start to your tank. It's never a bad idea to turn off the aquarium light when acclimating new fish as it lowers their stress levels and eases them into the tank better. And you'll probably need a bigger filter and powerhead if you plan on over stocking the tank. Best of luck!

Yo bro tank looks great and the peacock gon be a real beauty when it's fully grown

The yellow one with black stripes is a Melanochromis Auratus (Golden Mbuna). They can be pretty aggressive, but that varies fish to fish. Good luck with your new tank!

Nice start on the tank! Those decorations might work out for quite a bit, I know rocks can get pricey because of weight and your current setup could work to your advantage short term. I have heard many cichlids that start out plain can look really fantastic once they reach maturity, and oddly the colorful juniors kind of mute out as they get older or become less dominant. It will be fun to find out. They have lots of personality, too. GLHF!!
