Tbh I wouldn't intentionally leave important things in a storage unit. Not unless it was like, THE storage unit that I used solely for important things. Also if you're having financial troubles, a storage unit is not something you should be investing in in the first place. I understand things can go sideways pretty quick but if that does happen, you should be able to remember to get anything you care about out before the end of the month.

Years ago when I lived in So. Cali, my brother and mother used to do storage auctions for yard sale and swap meet. My job was to go through and pull trash. Some units would be sad because you would learn why they may have lost the unit. Some units were due to owners ending up incarcerated. One was drug related because there were a lot of little glass brown vials for packaging. Another looked like the owner was caught making fake id's.
