Those days are quickly coming to an end. It is currently illegal to put a pre-smog machine on a job in California. All earthmoving equipment must be registered with it's registration number visible. There is a small window for some exemptions for ag related machines, but it's a very small window and only buys you a couple years. Soon, everything pre-emission controlled will be completely illegal. Within 5 years the entire Country will adopt the same policy and pass the same laws. Everybody who's voted for and continues to vote for democrat candidates brought this on to themselves. Trump was in the process of getting rid of the federal intrusion by the green new dealers....but voters decided they needed a mentally retarded idiot as president more than fixing anything.

Good Job Boss; much enjoyed your video; I'm a retired union HDR/W mechanic: middle 70's now: A D7 series I can't recall seeing one on any of the dirt spreads I worked on over the life time of working: But here's the big but: during my service time in the Army, in Vietnam, there were a number of military Companies with as many as 30 of those cats fixed to what was known as Roman Plow Blades: I ran both blades, the bull blade and the Roman plow blade, Generally what happed, I ran over a land mine, one of two things, the whole cat was destroyed or just the blade, I get an option, I took the bull blade. Although a medium size cat, I found it to be a herkie cat to do some serious dirt work with it; great machine. we used the winch on them often. Although all the design engineered Cat equipment today is been incorporated with high tech computer systems: they do a great job; I much more favor the machines before the computers. I hit the subscribe..... I'm some-what surprised to see there is no over head rail crane in the shop; awesome lay out you have there. I like seeing a yard kept in an orderly manner as yours is. The Lord Bless you and yours.

These videos are so informative. At least with this ex-military kit you know the issues are largely lack of use, storage related and the owner had sufficient funds to repair stuff properly. While I know nothing about plant, I think some of the Deere stuff of this era looks better built and designed than the Cat is. Thanks as ever Clinton, it was good to see Santa helping Kevin on this one.

@@sidcostello7532 As I say, I don't know. Seeing those old Cat cold starts always look painful. I bought some trucks in UK with 3306 engines and nearly got fired as they were so bad with exhaust manifolds, turbos and always struggled to comply with emissions. I can see current Deere stuff is not that good. Just subtle things make me think the Deere ex-military dozers look a bit less painful. As I say I haven't lived with both brands. Cat also made a right mess of building trucks.

Great video, these Cat Direct Injection fuel systems made these engines start very easily, if I remember correctly a safety bulletin was issued in the late 80's stating to be sure if the engine was to be turned by hand you must be sure the throttle is in the fuel shut off position to prevent engine starting. BTW I have had one start this way once, it got pretty exciting for a few seconds!

C&C Equipment +: That engine fired-up and ran exceptionally quickly, did it not! Was in near shock, truth be told, as that was certainly _not_ expected! None of the coughing/chugging out clouds of black smoke that normally accompany start-up of an engine which has been sitting idle for years - literally. Thought all you _good-ol' boys_ were gonna spin in circles from disbelief/consternation! The look on the older fellow's face when he hit the ignition and the engine immediately started was simply priceless! Just goes to show what happens when really good mechanics work on good machinery. Things immediately begin to _work_ as they are supposed to. W/ regard to the video, another of this channel's typically excellent productions - quite entertaining and _highly_ informative. As is virtually always the case, such videos are afforded the standard _YT_ 'thumbs-up' ree-ward. This video assuredly falls well within that category! As usual, well-done guys! Keep 'em coming! 👏👏👏

Newbie guy here, fascinated by the reclaiming of old equipment from the military. I'm so glad someone is doing this! No reason for Pentagon paid for equipment to not find a new and proper home. It saddens me that AD or Reserve/NG forces would take equipment that costs major dollars and sideline it because they don't understand how to fix a brand new piece of equipment! Thanks for your expertise and hard work to get this equipment operational1 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Stay well, stay safe!

The DoD likes to keep a surplus of equipment in storage in case of the worst case scenarios, I bet the stuff in storage now is new or at least newer equipment that is waiting for a war that hopefully never happens. Now they are just auctioning of the older stuff

@@n20prostock97 - I was aware of some the DOD intricacies, I'm retired Army. It still bothers me that some equipment doesn't get taken care of, properly. Thanks for your insight!
