Still remember being in college and we had a group project/presentation due one day and I was responsible for bringing in the data. Woke up with everything complete on my computer and finding that the internet was down at my house (most of the town was down as well). Ok, no problem I should have a usb somewhere........oh shit I can't find one and I have less than an hour, Shit! Looking through my room I see it, my PSP. I grab the cable and plug it into my pc, switch it to usb mode and dump the files onto my PSP. Once everything looks ok I throw it into its case and hop on my bike to school, plug into the pc in the class and copy the files over. Our big class project was safe and secure. I did get a few funny comments about what I was doing with it, but I just laughed about it and said it's always good to have a backup plan or 3 when shit hits the fan.

About a year or two before the DSi came out, me and my brother awoke one Christmas morning to find presents for us. My brother opened his first and he found a DS Lite, along with Pokemon Diamond and two other games. I was excited too, hoping to find a DS of my own to play with my brother. However, the box was differently shaped, being longer and bigger than the DS box was. I opened it to find a PSP 3000, a carrying case for it, Rachet & Clank: Size Matters, Spider-Man Friend or Foe, and God of War: Chains of Olympus. Knowing my cousin had a PSP for a couple years now, I easily recognized what I had and was fine with it not being a DS. That day made me a fan of R&C and made me an even greater fan of GoW. It even got me into the Patapon series and Monster Hunter through Freedom Unite.

6:47 yes the PSP originally started out with its own proprietary memory card, which was technically just a Sony proprietary memory card that was used across several Sony, digital cameras and camcorders, and so many MP3 players, and then adapted for the PSP and then honestly not too long after the PSP came out. A couple of people quickly realized that you could just make a simple little adapter and use a regular microSD card. So there was someone who was making the memory card after that would allow you to use one micro SD card and then someone else was making microSD adapters that could hold two cards at the same time. The cool part is that the PSP will recognize up to 128 GB and if you try anything higher than that, it won’t recognize it believe me I’ve tried. Still that’s pretty cool, especially if you have a custom firmware on your PSP because that means you can rip the games off your PSP onto the computer and then put them back on your PSP as a digital iso file which meant they ran a lot better because they’re running off of an SSD technicallyand not an optical disc that requires a laser to read it which meant loading time was faster. reliability was faster and it wasn’t going to skip when you bumped it or shook it.

10:35 I just wanna clarify that the PSP GO is the best one of them all. There is a seller on eBay who makes modified memory cards that allow you to put a 64 or up to 128 GB memory card into the PSP GO and it’s pretty awesome. Basically it’s a ribbon cable that plugs into your PSP GO memory card slot. It then wrapped around and gets tucked away underneath the back cover or battery cover whatever you wanna call it so you never really see it and it connects to an adapter that allows you to add on your microSD card. I have it and it works very well. Also, I highly recommend getting the one with the black insulated protected ribbon cable because the one with the orange unprotected ribbon cable breaks really easily you live and you learn but now I know. This is why I said the PSP. GO is the best one of them all and why I have 2 of them all.

I wishes you talked more about what the PSP was capable of in the Controversy part. Hacking was obviously bad for Sonys business but it also showed a lot of potential that Sony refused to embrace. For example. People made a GPS out of it by plugging a custom made chip. This is amazing before smartphone era and in car navigation wasn't a thing.
@Rainmotorsports5 ай бұрын
PSP had a GPS about a year into its existence. PSP-290. A lot of early mods did make everyone's experience better as Sony rushed to add features to give people less of a reason to use Pandora. Some of the things they did were annoying. PS1 saves had a header with a hash in it. You strip the header you could load that memory card file into an emulator but putting the file back was not so easy. Could flash it from PC to a PS1 card then used the PS3 to transfer it back to be PSP. But they did this to try and make one less attack vector. The PSP hacking scene was a big part of my life. I wrote a few tools to help the noobs get in. I lost track around 6.xx and at some point some of the popular sites got bought up or died out. Kind of miss it.
