I have a video on solving using a pretty old Rubik's brand. It was pain. If that was hard for me, I can only imagine how much harder the 5x5 will be. 100% agree not to buy old Rubik's brands. By the way, this is totally unrelated to the video, but I have a few questions. 1. How do you balance your main work with KZbin and cubing? 2. I average about sub-24, but I can't get faster because my F2L is not too efficient. Do you have any tips for that? 3. How did you get the name Tingman? If you don't want to answer or it's in an older Q and A, it's totally fine. Great Video!
@Tingman2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Not sure when I'll do a Q&A next so I'll answer those questions here :) 1. It's tricky, I generally make a lot of videos on school holidays (I'm a teacher), but I recently also went from full time to part time teaching to carve out space for KZbin (and some study) so that helps. It's not easy, I'll say that much! But it's not too bad. 2. F2L is a tricky one. I started off by printing out Jperm's F2L document and then learning the subsets that interested me the most. I never finished the whole thing but I just chose the cases that I felt I saw really frequently and made my way through it that way. Walkthroughs really helped too. 3. Just a nickname from ages ago!

My favorite Rubik's brand product is probably the "Rubik's Pyramid" (it's a Pyramorphix.) Where I am (U.S.), it's somehow cheaper to get pretty decent MoYu cubes than Rubiks'. Their Pyramorphix is fairly priced and slightly cheaper to go pick up a my local book/puzzle store than it is to ship another brand's online. Also, it's the most unique product they still produce (or at least from what I've seen) especially being an official shape mod.

Ok I've been cubing for about 15 years now. Over the past 15 years I've seen the Rubik's brand evolve a ton since I started cubing. Back then when I started cubing the Rubik's 2x2, 4x4, and 5x5's where one of the fewest options for actually speedsolving. But The Rubik's brand for the most part has been near the bottom of the line for recommended puzzles to speedsolve with. But with the new Spinmaster acquisition a few years ago Spinmaster has actually been improving the band some. To the point where we're actually getting truly good decent Rubik's brand puzzles. But the 5x5 hasn't really been updated that much in the past 20 years. Other than their core puzzles like the 2x2-5x5, keychain 3x3, and the snake they've released a ton of other puzzles. With those other puzzles they've only been region exclusive and/or only be on the market for a certain time period before getting discontinued. But overall they make some decent puzzles that are in the middle of the road in terms of speedcubes. Where there just above those crappy cheap Chines $1 cubes but not much better than the good proper Chinese Speedcubes that you can find on Daily Puzzles. Also Rubik's tends to overprice some of their puzzles mostly the 4x4 and 5x5.

@brianbga25512 жыл бұрын
Ive been cubing for almost 3 months and my first 3x3 solves were almost impossible because i popped the cube and put the corners and edges in the wrong orientation and gave up, but on the next day i decided to flip or twist em and i solved them for real! but since the 3x3 was my only cube i decided to use cubing apps to solve cubes that i dont own, And up to this day, i solved 3x3 shape mods (like mastermorphix, Trajber´s octahedron, etc) a 8x8 rubiks cube and a master kilominx which it took me 70 mins because of the lots of edges and easy to missplace the centers. my father bought me a 4x4 rubiks cube. and i do cubing virtually while i wait for my father to buy me some cubes. i sub 20 at the 2x2 (with a 4x4) my 3x3 Pb was 1:02 (because it turns so bad and worse than a rubiks brand which i do it with PLL, Cross OLL and Begginer F2L) and on the 4x4 best was 7:00. Tingman´s videos always entertain me 👍mostly because of his unboxings, reviews and challenges.

I don't know anything about Rubik's brand, but I am an Intuitive Slow Cuber. So my first focus was 2x2x2, and I have 8 different models. I'm also autistic, so the 'mouthfeel' of the turning is actually a big deal. For a sensory person like me, the way it turns is actually a big deal, because a good feeling puzzle will make you want to do it more. I don't know if you've seen those stimming toys with clicker buttons, but man, some of them have this perfect click and it's a perfect puzzle. I saw you said one was buttery; I gotta say I have one that I feel is greasy, and it's fine but not my favorite. I really like to switch it up. For me, it's not about speed, it's about the sensation of working out the puzzle. I just solved what I think is the maximum unit of parity on my pyraminx this afternoon and I'm just annoyed because I don't know quite how I did it.
