I bought heaps of Dublo track - but what about trains?

Hi. That Marklin turntable is a thing of beauty! Also those lovely old LMS tanks. You have a great purchase there but please take care with those old controllers. The mains cables are over 60 years old and the insulation could well be perished making them potentially lethal. They will probably work fine after being checked out and rewired by a sparky. I've been collecting Dublo 3 rail for over 60 years now, it's addictive!! Welcome to the club mate. Regards, Rich.

Thanks! Yes the turntable's great. I'll check the cables on the controllers, they seemed fine but I'll check to see if the rubber insulation is still flexible. I can imagine it is addictive, I'm already after more!

Can replace the mains cable by drilling out the corner rivets on each controller. The AC output is isolated from the other outputs. The other thing to fail in the controller is the rectifier (old age). A suggested replacement is the GU4 series which may need a mounting bracket. The rehostat has fine twisted pair wires to the output terminals that coil/uncoil when the control shaft is turned. It not uncommon for these wires to break.

Thanks for the advice! If any need fixing this'll be very helpful! I'll be careful with the controllers so as to hopefully not break the fine wires.

The suggested rectifier replacement is somewhat overrated. This is to accommodate the start up current surge encountered with motor loads. This will be worst on the uncontrolled 12v output as there's no limiting factor served by the rehostat resistance. The 10W rated output is somewhat limiting especially used with the expensive Meccano/Marklin Powerdrive + 6 ratio gearbox motor units. The overload lamp can come on at three quarter full setting in this case.
