Thank you for the time and effort to make these videos. I am just starting out, having recently retired and have wanted to have a model railway layout since I was a young boy. Grateful for your knowledge, advice and tips you share via these videos, as it helps to prevent me from making costly mistakes as I begin my journey down this rabbit hole. I will be building in n-scale (am in USA). Thank you again. Liked/subscribed.

I have built several n scale layouts. They were all based on US railroads. My latest one was of the city where I currently live. I did sell it, but It was very satisfying. You will not avoid making mistakes, they are learning experiences. Sometimes they turn out to be great features of your layout if you figure out how to take advantage of them. Good luck. My main layout is OO British scale, but everything I do there is applicable to other scales. Thank you so much, Rob

Another great ‘how to’ video Rob with many hints and tips for laying track, anyone who is setting out laying track for the first time (no matter if it’s N, OO or HO) should look at this video before starting. Thanks for sharing this Rob and a nicely created video without getting too complicated. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ………..Graham

Good afternoon, Graham, based on some of the questions I get at times, and that there are many beginners out there who could benefit, I thought I would do this one. You are very right, most of the things would apply to any scale except maybe G. It is good to hear it is not too complicated, I wanted it simple and as straight forward as possible. Thank you for watching and your comment, bye for now, Rob

Yes we do Phil. There is really nothing new in the material, but these are the things I’ve learned that allow me good precision when laying this rascally and at times unruly, n scale track. If you learn something useful from me, that certainly makes the effort to create a video like this worth it. Thank you so much, Rob

If you are into n scale, I suggest the Colorado North Western or CONW series.

Hey Rob, great tips overall. I model in ho, not n scale. All those tips can be carried over into ho scale. Chuck
@FarlandHowe
@FarlandHowe Жыл бұрын
Hi Chuck, Yes, agreed, most everything talked about in the video could be used to advantage in HO. I also model OO, 1:76, and I learned most of this while building in that scale. It uses the same track as HO btw. I was really trying to reach the people who are starting out. When I started, it was an uphill battle learning the best and most efficient ways of doing things starting with laying track. I just thought I would pass these lessons learned on. Thank you so much for watching and for your thoughtful comment, Rob

I like the idea of trimming the tops of the last ties to slip the rail joiners on without cutting ties off, but wouldn't you want to do that before you superglue the rails to the ties?
@FarlandHowe
@FarlandHowe Жыл бұрын
Yes, but you only glue the sleepers on short pieces. The long or normal runs of flex do not need to be glued. The glue just holds the rail in place while you are trimming it to size. Honestly, you can do it before or after. Thank you so much, Rob

@@FarlandHowe You could make a rolling drum with tracks and scenery inside so the train could run continuously. I haven't seen it yet.

I did use fixed track for the inside running loop. I then used it as a guide for the other outside curves. Laying flex is as easy or easier than fixed. You just have to develop the skill through practice. Thank you so much, Ellery. Cheers, Rob
