When I first bumped into this channel completely by accident, I thought it was just one of the ten thousand food-focused KZbin channels out there. Man, was I wrong! This channel, I daresay, is among the top 5 or even top 3 best food-focused channels on KZbin. There are three major factors for its success. Number 1, of course, is the amazing host. He is full of energy, unpretentious, adventurous, respectful, non-judgmental, yet honest about the food that he eats. If he doesn't like something, he will tell you, but he never uses that as an excuse to bash the entire cuisine of the country. Second is the range of food that is show-cased in the videos, ranging from the most down-to-earth to the most exquisite. This is what a really good KZbin food channel should be like. Third is the destinations which include places that most people will not dream of visiting themselves (e.g. Central Asia, the Amazon jungle).

Thank you for this wonderful noodle tour of Hong Kong! Last time I visited was 2018, I do miss it. I should go back, to visit my best friend and his family. All these noodles look great…but there’s one noodle dish that rules them all. My mom’s. Hailing from Belitung in Indonesia, from Chinese migrants from Southern China who ended up there in the 18th century. It’s surprisingly similar to HK cuisine. That’s why we feel so at home there!

She is not completely off about the most tender part of beef Sunny. By “butt” she meant rump for some areas in the world, or sirloin cap, aka picanha (if you still have no idea at this point pls check out Guga Food), is actually a very tender cut out of entire cow. It is probably right behind tenderloin and flatiron in my opinion. Ton of flavor which you experienced for yourself.

Just to be precise the sauces for the rice noodle rolls are soy sauce, peanut sauce, sweet sauce, chilli sauce and white sesame. In my old days, they would included cold cooking oil. When I eat my wonton noodles, I usually add red wine vinegar to complement its meals. Glad he added some chilli sauce for his beef chow fun. For that similar hotpot beef vermicelli, could make those at home rather than paying $58 where the cost is mostly applied to the part of the meat itself. There are still few types of noodles I've yet to see him try and they are Long Life E-Fu Noodles, Silver Needle aka mouse tail noodles, & Lai Fun types of spaghetti made out of rice flour, etc.

Actually, pho 粉 or rice noodles is also a Chinese invention. It was invented during the Qin Dynasty of China when Qin Shihuang the first emperor of Qin Dynasty sent his general Zhao Tuo to conquer the Baiyue (Bach Viet in Vietnamese or Hundred Yue people) people in southern China and northern Vietnam. The soldiers missed the noodles in the north, so they used rice plentiful in the wet south to create rice noodles, which is called fun in Cantonese (as in chow fun or stir fried rice noodles), fen in Mandarin and pho in Vietnamese, as pho is a Sino-Vietnamese word with its root from Chinese. General Zhao Tuo (Trieu Da in Vietnamese) founded the Zhao Dynasty (Trieu Dynasty in Vietnamese) of Vietnam and also the Nanyue Kingdom of China with its capital in Guangzhou, China. The name Viet Nam (Yue Nan in Mandarin) comes from reversing the two characters for the Nan Yue (Nam Viet) Kingdom founded by Zhao Tuo. His reign began the one thousand year rule of Han Chinese over Vietnam until the Tang Dynasty (608-917AD) of China. Yue (Viet) means regions south of the Yangtze River. Zhejiang province of China used to be called Wu Yue. Fujian province used to be called Min Yue. Guangdong, Guangxi, and northern Vietnam used to be the Nan Yue (Nam Viet in Vietnamese) Kingdom. Google search for invention of rice noodles, Zhao Tuo, Zhao Dynasty of Vietnam, Nanyue Kingdom, and Museum of the Nanyue King Mausoleum in Guangzhou. Guangzhou is called Canton and is the birthplace of Cantonese language, culture and cuisine such as dim sum, barbecued dishes like barbecued pork, suckling pigs, roasted goose/duck, Claypot rice, etc. Vietnamese and Cantonese are both of the Baiyue people conquered by Zhao Tuo, so Vietnamese and Cantonese are very phonetically similar, and since Cantonese also descended from Middle Chinese spoken during the Tang Dynasty when Japan adopted the Tang culture as their own, Cantonese and Japanese onyomi (Sino-Japanese pronunciations) are also phonetically similar. Wonton noodles are actually called bamboo pressed noodles and uses duck eggs which make them really al dente. Japan, Korea and Vietnam are collectively known as the Sinosphere. They got cultures from ancient China. Japanese culture is a replica of the Chinese Tang Dynasty culture. Korean culture is the replica of the Chinese Ming Dynasty culture. Noodles, rice noodle, rice, rice wine, tea, tea ceremony, matcha, soy sauce, bean curd doufu (tofu in Japanese, another Sino-Japanese word), miso, chopsticks, hotpot, dumplings, weiqi, penzai (bonsai in Japanese), paper folding art, koi fish, lamian or pulled noodles (ramen in Japanese), char siu or barbecued pork (chashu in Japanese), cherry blossom trees, etc all came from China to Japan. Google search for their origin or invention. Google search for Japanese missions to imperial China and Japanese missions to Tang Dynasty. Hiragana is cursive Chinese characters. Katakana is partial Chinese character. Kanji is Hanzi (Hanja in Korean and Chu Han in Vietnamese) or Han Chinese characters named after the Han Dynasty of China. Japan sent a lot of envoys to Tang Dynasty. When those envoys went back to Japan, they applied all they had learned resulting in sudden blossoming y of Japanese culture during their contemporary periods of Nara Period and Heian Period. Nara and Kyoto were the capital f these two periods and were built based on the model of Chang’an, modern day Xi’an (the starting point of the Silk Road and Terra Cotta Army), the capital of 13 dynasties including the Han and Tang golden ages dynasties. Korea was a Ming Dynasty vassal state which explains why male Hanbok looks so similar to Chinese Hanfu of the Ming Dynasty, because the founder of Ming Dynasty granted Korean king the right to adopt the Ming Dynasty Hanfu (Han Chinese dynastic clothes), except they couldn’t have the dragon on their robes, which was only reserved to the emperor of China.
