The *German soldier* in black is actually a *Panzer* (tank) officer holding a *Luger* which was popular choice among tank crew. @@APersonOnKZbinX No no, the P08 Luger Firearm was still used and manufactured during the the Second World War, however, the preferred choice of sidearm for Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS panzer crewmen would be the Walther PPK and or the Walther-P38, the P08 was used by Wehrmacht field officers, Panzergrenadier officers (Green piping), Artillery officers (red piping on their hats if I remember correctly) and of course Senior officers such as Generalleutnants and so on aka German High command. Towards the end of the war I believe the P08 was slowly ruled out and then the Walther PPK and Walther-P38 became German officers choice weapon. Adolf Hitlers personal firearm was a Walther-P38 or PPK if I remember correctly, but yeah the P08 was still prominent during the Second World War for German officers, even some NCO’s as well (Feldwebel, Oberfeldwebel etc.)
@omendium29182 жыл бұрын
The SS (SchutzStaffel) and field officers also wore specialised leather jackets, including Wehrmacht motorcycle trained drivers. The black leather jacket during the Second World War can be associated with Panzercrewman officers (Leutnants etc) and motorcycle operators. But yeah, his medal I believe would be a Iron cross second class as it is on display along with his ribbon which I believe is a Iron Cross first class ribbon as if I remember correctly, the ribbon was to be worn but not the iron cross itself (unless it was a second class iron cross or a knights cross, knights cross with oak leaves or knights cross with oak leaves and diamonds, etc etc.)

Easy way to tell is that the tankers have pink piping on their uniforms, which denotes their branch of service. Also they have a skull and crossbones on their jackets. The SS also had this but theirs was different. They would usually have the SS runes one one side and their rank on the other (with the exception of foreign units which had their division symbol where the SS runes should have been. With the exception of the 3rd SS which was a German unit but had a skull and crossbones (known as the deaths head) wheee the SS runes where and the 6th SS (I think) which where Scandinavians but had the SS runes instead of their division symbol like the other foreigners.) A fine set for collectors who like WWII historical stuff. After reading Lego's history I think they wanted to abstain from making realistic looking guns and tanks because of the occupation of Denmark during WWII as well as the personal horrors seen by the founder of the company committed by the German reich. The new makers however, seem to be more interested in historical accuracy and 90% authentic looks, rather than what they symbolize. That German officer you showed us has an Iron cross but no *uh* problematic symbols on him. So I think the founder's wishes, while not followed to the letter, have been at least followed to the spirit.
