That whole stable income thing annoys me. Even if you've been in the same job for 20 years, a minute after you get a mortgage, the company you work for can go bust or they make half the staff redundant. There's no such thing as a safe job these days.

I've watched you for a LONG time but never commented. I'm only 4 minutes in but hearing you speak about your desire to not give up on your dream even during a lockdown in a foreign country that you'd only just settled in, rang so close to home. I moved to Barcelona at the beginning of 2020 after a lifetime of wanting to live abroad but battling crippling fear about the prospect of it. I fell in love in 2019 while traveling around Europe. In love with a city, a man, and myself. All of which gave me the courage to make the leap and just as I felt like I was flying, the pandemic swat me down. The idea of going home was never an option for me, just a safety net. Trying to explain why I was sticking it out; even though I was almost completely alone on the literal otherside of the world (Australians abroad can relate) from my family and friends; was hard. People didn't understand, why not go back to safety and comfort? I just didn't want to give up on my dream. Two years on, I'm still here and I am such a bigger person for it. I'm still trying to build a life here and while the world is more open, I still struggle with the loneliness and uncertainty of the world we live in now. But, overall I am so grateful for this city and the growth this experience has provided me with. And while I'm not about to go out and buy an apartment here just yet, I do want to thank you for constantly inspiring me to be brave, open, and inquisitive to every experience!

I am so happy for you, I started to cry, It all remind me off when I purchased my first apartment in Stockholm. I had been living in apartments all over town for more than ten years. But then 2009 I purchased my flat 25 square meters and I had a loft bed. I remember walking by the flat for days before I got my keys. The first night I cried when I went to bed in my loft bed. I was so thankful that I had my own place and remembered that feeling for all my life. Today I live in a large house with my family, so grateful for that. But the feeling I felt with my tiny apartment 2009 will always be with me. I wish you the best time in Paris with your friends. You have a magical channel!

There are folks who have established themselves in the American / Parisian community by hosting potluck luncheons once a month for Americans living in Paris. Bring food to share, sign up by invitation or recommendation, etc. You end up with a wonderfully eclectic group of acquaintances. You can get a range of ages and backgrounds, and length of them being in country. Set whatever “criteria” you want. It could be the start of your atelier.

“I don’t have the amazing final product yet” 16:39 Somehow, I think this sums up your entire channel. Life, no matter what stage you are at, should never be a finished product. As an… “older” person (and I’m not THAT old, but I’m older than you) - I get a lot of joy from seeing your exploration of life and the adventures life brings. Congratulations on your new apartment - may it serve as a base for growth and creativity! You’ve chosen a lovely city to center upon.

Hi, for you buying process in France, French don't do things this way. When they know they want to buy a place they FIRST turn to banks to see how much loan they'll be able to have with their income and down payment ( the best is 30%). Then they agree with a bank on the maximum amount and then they go look for a place. That way when you sign with the previous owner things go pretty fast. Warning for future French buyers. And yes as many others said in the end "you got lucky!". Getting a lawyer on top of a notary can help too.

Hi Nathaniel I came across your parents first and enjoyed watching their adventure in leaving the US. I discovered your adventures through that and looked you up. I too made that move many years ago from the Midwest to France. After a few years of volunteer work I ended up teaching English in the Paris area. Over the years, I have had many adventures too but one of the main ones involved the purchase of a ruin in Normandy which was all I could afford on mainly two part time teaching positions. Over the years that ruin has slowly been transformed into my little paradise in the beautiful Normand countryside where I now live permanently. If you ever want to come out and spend a couple of days I'd love to sit and share stories with you. I so understand your frustrations with French bureaucracy but like you I have that inner excitement about this life which I'd have to say quite honestly chose me. My best wishes to you and your family Paul

I feel so alone in the path I seem to be taking in life, and I don’t feel as though I have support, so finding your channel has been the most comforting thing. Seeing the pros and cons of living in Paris and seeing your perspective on Europe as a whole, has really helped me shape my opinion on moving. I’ve still got a lot of time and a lot of money to save before doing anything, but these videos are a step further towards that goal. Not to mention, your videos are always cinematically great! I'm at a point in my life where I'm so lost and void of any glint of want to live or experience life. This video and your life... are so inspiring to me. This video made me smile so widely and wish for that moment when you got a 'yes' and walked into your very own place. I want that feeling.. Thank you for showing me and thousands of others that feeling. And congratulations!

I've been a digital nomad for the last three years, got stuck in Paris during the first lockdown, went through a hard time mentally speaking (still am). Decided to buy an appartement sur le plateau du Vercors (near Grenoble) at the end of 2021 and signed l'acte de vente définitif on 14th, April. Been sleeping on a couch since! On dirait qu'on a quelques points communs dans nos parcours respectifs ! Cheers Nathaniel and all the best for this new chapter. :) You got there because of your hard work and talent as well.

Great congratulations Nathan! I have been following you for the last two years and we even spoke sometimes on Instagram DMs and I must say I'm really proud of seeing you on your journey accomplishing your dreams. It is not buying an appartment, but the fact that you feel emotionally ready and sure about it. I can imagine THAT means the world to someone like you who, as me, has been used to a nomad lifestyle in seek for that personal growth, realised what that lifestyle meant, took the most out of it, and is now looking for those deep and stable social connections somewhere you feel home at the same time, which is not an easy combination to find. I know how fulfilling that feels and I cannot be happier for you. Sending you all the love and good wishes from here, I hope I can visit someday! Now it's time to continue living 💛
