Due to me growing up and living in germany it's so strange for me hearing people have knifes and teasers for selfdefense in their car. Compared to other countries it's way safer and one factor is that people commonly don't have weapons just laying around at their houses and it's even way harder to even get one (technically even pepperspray is a forbidden weapon). And after that incident germany got more cautious about those things and now there is more security at those markets, like Stone barrier blocks( i have no clue how they're called in englisch) around every bigger market so that bigger vehicles can't run over people anymore as easily. I am not saying germany is in that sense perfect whatsoever, there are bad people everywhere, but if there are less weapons to hurt people, there are less people having the chance to do so.
