I just took a trip back home to GP, from Florida last week. Went to visit a small rancher buddy from Valleyview area and the drive from GP to Vview was showing real late crops. The canola wasn’t out of the ground for very long and was definitely pale yellow.

In my area of central Alberta they do tar the cracks in the roads. But they started to only fill the small ones and leave all the big cracks to break out the roads. Yet when the guy measures with the measuring wheel the cracks they fill to know what to charge the government. They always measure the big cracks they never filled.🙄
@Northern_Farmer3 ай бұрын
Usually when they measure it out...that's Crack filling with the rock tar mix...and fir some reason they do that a year or 2 before repaving

The crops look really well from the drive by on the road. Seems very little in the way of any sort of livestock on your trip? Canola production in Europe has all but totally collapsed due to the authorities banning the use of a pesticide treatment for cabbage stem flea beetle as it allegedly kills off bees. Dan

With the weather patterns changing now i can see it being a real challenge in the future for farmers .Unfortunately a lot of farmers anywhere close to Toronto are selling off their land for development . Doesn’t help either that the government has decided to build the new hwy 413 on prime farmland

The removal of gravel from rivers here in NZ is the same but as rivers flood more gravel is deposited along the river banks and flooding gets worse so if some gravel was removed it would help in flood prone areas, I'm no expert but a bit of common sense regards gravel removal would help and leave less scares on the landscape.
@kevinmeyer38843 ай бұрын
When has governments ever had common sense? LOL!
