Masami facts! Sometimes he raced with a twin stick transmitter Sometimes he raced with his twin stick transmitter with his feet and toes! From an interview on Radio Control Car Action magazine. He said he drove better with his toes! Pretty insane.

Congrats on the purchase! Masami is incredible. I remember reading Car Action magazine back in the late 80's early nineties and was amazed at all his achievements. I think he was a master of 1:12 on road stuff as well. I've always considered him to be the RC equivalent of F1's Ayrton Senna.

@@rcicons4915 Yes, always a bit mythical to me growing up in the 80’s-90’s UK. You would see them in the top spots in the race results printed in the mags and the odd grainy black and white photo, but in the uk they were very rare. “Yokomo Dogfighter” it’s just such a cool name. :-)

I recently realised I have a yokomo pro stock 23t Thanks Masami Yatabe arena motor from the 3rd of may 2009, so a fair well motor tribute 😮. And it's been sitting in a box as I didn't know the history of it till recently (I'm an idiot sometimes lol). Thanks for even more info on Masami and his achievements Keith 👍👍

Also fairly recently I was over the moon when Masami commented on my G-Force Genova video I did, in which he had a hand in bringing to production as he works for G-force. Dollary Doo's and small loans - sometimes you have to buy what you want if you can afford (or not)... Trust me Yokomo is gonna be you're new best friend. YZ cars right up to todays Yokomo cars are just the best. Better than AE in my eyes. BMAX2 / BMAX4 / CAL2 / CAL3 / and the early YZs/ You do need to look into them.

Holy Moly!! That is super cool! I would stick that in a glass case in the glass case!! LOL! There are some great drivers in RC history and depending on the time you were into RC you may know some and not others but Masami has been on of the top gun racers of all time and it is super cool you were able to get one of his actual cars! The wheels are from the Yokomo MX-4, i think they were put on at a later moment? the MX-4 came out later then the YZ-10

I believe you are correct although I have seen other 97wcs with the same wheels. I do not know enough about original vs upgrades when it comes to yok. Learning more and more everyday though.

The yokomo 97WCS build uses MX4 wheels. The MX4 is the successor of the YZ10 correct, but the wheels were released and utilized with a 97WCS spec car. The 1997 All Japan winner spec car used by Masami also had MX4 wheels. The 97WCS was a development, and engineering transition from the YZ10 platform to the MX4 platform.

Wow Keith. Thank you for sharing this very special car with us. I have never had any doubt that Masami is the greatest to have raced RC. I don't know how anyone can say that he wasn't the best. There have been many great drivers throughout the years - Jay Halsey, Joel Johnson, Cliff Lett, Brian Kinwald, Mark Pavidis etc but none took as many titles as MH. BTW- you are not boasting by sharing these cars with us. You are helping and inspiring many in the hobby. Keep it up!

i think the YZ-10 did not realy came out in 1997 and instead they brought out the Yokomo MX-4 therefore you might have the wheels on it???? check out that scrapyard link in a previous post Keith....

The 97WCS is a development progression of the YZ10. The 97WCS was actually a conversion kit released by Yokomo. It could be applied to a 94-95 YZ10 to convert to a 97WCS. It consisted of the 95WCS chassis, two piece top deck with spring, New towers, rear camber plate. The "MX4 wheels" were already available at the time. The MX4 development process was already in effect in 1997 - Very close development timelines, for both cars.
