depends what you can bring out of the system in which you put it. I honestly lOl at the occasional bad mouthing of certain hardware limitations and under 60 fps nonsense. Ive always been able to get 60+fps @ 1080p on high settings first with my gtx 1070, now with my rtx 2060 inside an aging 4th gen i7 setup. I read somewhere that comparative benchmarking is a sham, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. A simple way to test games is to switch up hardware, putting together odd configurations and stress testing them. Windows is a b***h too, as are certain in game engines.

When i saw those fans of Vega 7 in 2019 i knew it would be shrill. But such cooler mistakes are common for reference Radeon cards. Reference Vega 64 actually was not a bad card when you fixed AMD's mistake, which was thermal rather than noise pitch issues. Dremel bracket airflow mod plus better thermal paste stopped most of the clock throttling while retaining the soft woosh of the stock fan curve.

The stuttering in newer games is caused by devs using UE4 and DX12 without compiling the game's shaders at the start, like they do with consoles. That leaves the GPU to compile the shaders on the fly, which is way slower than having them saved in the system. The only fix is that devs patch their games to compile them at the start or maybe Microsoft can forced them when using DX12.
@jamezxh

Not the GPU, Unreal Engine compiles shaders on the CPU using the DirectX Compiler (DXC) or the HLSL Compiler (HLC) and it's done as part of the asset pipeline.

Unless you have a at least 1200 Watts PSU with relatively few connector, I know for a fact that you got lower results because you didnt use 2 cables. The stuttering in modern games you mentioned is due to DX12 shader caching. Depending on how it was created, the game needs to build and cache shaders to your drive. Some games do this the first time you boot it up, other games don't... And that's why you see the stuttering. The game is having to load and cache shaders on the fly, causing pauses. If a game has DX12/11/Vulkan support, you will only see the stuttering in DX12.

I bought 1 of these broken during the mining craze for $450. Though I got a deal until I got the card and it was basically bent in half. Never buy pc hardware with stock photos. Ended up drilling a hole in it to clear a short, and then had to reball the core. Booted it up, driver installed, and then I found out the hbm2 was dead. Shocker. The HBM2 on this card is extremely seen it I’ve. Not saying a bent board wouldn’t have caused this, but HbM2 failing on this and the Vega 56/64 is VERY common, and those cards were very good for mining at the time so the majority of these cards used will likely be dying or dead due to failed memory.

@@solocamo3654 Yup. I had a 6900xt as well. Great card. To avoid depreciation, I sold it a while ago and bought a 6800xt instead, but even 6800xt performance is way more than I need. 1440p ultrawide just isn't that big of a challenge anymore. Maybe if 2160p gaming ultrawides become available, I'll upgrade, but for now the prices don't make any sense. Lets hope AMD and Nvidia learn their lesson, because I'm kinda over the "x percent better for x percent more money" thing.

Provided you can cool it, that card can actually overclock decently as well. I managed to get 2100MHz+ out of it with a relatively middling Bykski block, so that's an additional 15-20% more performance out of it when you combine it with a memory overclock

I think one of the problems with the performance of the card in this testings was the fact that you need to put 2 individual 8 pin power chords to the card (an individual cable can deliver up to 175w if I remember correctly + the 75w of the PCI-E motherboard, the Vega 64 could eat like 300w so... I guess this could be the same or even more) and the fact that you need to up the power limit of the card to the max to let her perform as much as it can, then you can play with the undervolt if you want to save some power and heat, but basically you need to plug 2 individual 8 pin cables and put the power limit to the max to let her perform the max she can, you should give her another try with this advices, and maybe as I said you could play a little bit with the UV settings! Great videos as always my friend.

the stutters are caused by shared compilation, since new gen of consoles, the shader quality went up, but only couple of games pre-compile shaders leaving us with tons of stuttering. On second playthrough it should be better, but devs need to do better.

The upscaling bandaids slapped on games are due to the lack of performance being pushed out by our beloved gpu makers. Game optimization will help very little if the hardware, no matter how absurdly expensive (cough mid range 4080 for $1200) is built to show off new technology on old games (portal being the #1 example). The marketing angle is now to show you that you can now play dated games at extremely high frame rates with upscaling, but only if you buy the newest hardware. A couple of months go by after the cards release, and boom a handful of games drop that barely run on the new hardware without the upscaling crutch, and the hardware from a generation or 2 ago don’t even have enough vram to run the games without them being a stuttering mess.

Maybe something to mention. Your GPU power draw is in some titles around 140-170watts. That's seems to be not utilized completely. That's maybe engine related but worth a look up or at least a statement. Thank you for your testing it's really nice to see some older video cards. And regarding to those massive hikups (I have a v64) I see them a lot when memory or GPU is clocking down for whatever reason.
