I think the injection system you are referring too with the oil firing the injectors is HEUI. It's used in 7.3 and 6.0, but I think the 6.7 uses more conventional fuel injection like what's found in Duramax and Cummins. Still important to use good oil. Thanks for the videos!

Scorpion design with the exhaust feeding into the V where the turbo sits. I prefer the I6, simple,less parts. The I6 has 40% less moving parts and alot better low end torque as well. But it comes down to what you prefer. Also Ford has two cooling systems. I'll bet Ford comes out with a new I6 in the future. The 300 was a workhorse. Jeep has a twin turbo I6 on the Grand $113,000 Wagoneer!!!! Congrats.

That is correct. 7.3 and 6.0 were HEUI which were a marvel in 1994 when first introduced. Cat/International developed them. 6.4 was the only International engine that Ford used that was common rail. After lawsuits against International for warranty claims Ford developed their own engine, the 6.7 Powerstroke and released it 2011, also common rail like Isuzu and Cummins. I will say, (and I can because I have owned six of these trucks and put hundreds of thousands of miles on them) it is wise to also use a quality fuel additive as the Bosch CP4 pumps need the extra lubricity that modern fuel lacks. The one thing that is still steel and rots out quickly are the running boards ! You might have to wait until spring but ... 1) Drill some drain holes in the running boards 2) Rinse the inside out with a pressure washer 3) Wait for a couple of warms days to let the inside dry then spay inside with Fluid Film until it drips out 4) While you have the Fluid Film out, spray the bolts holding the shocks, the tie rod adjuster, the parking brake adjuster, caliper and bracket bolts. Drop the spare tire and spray the entire mechanism and both sides of the spare tire wheel. Do this once a year, and you will be happy when you have to deal with them !!

Hi Matt! A piece of advice for you...get the biggest mud flaps you can find and put them on your front fenders (you already have good ones on the rear). Get the ones that are so wide they'll keep all the slop and salt from flinging up on your front fenders, doors and rocker panels. Hopefully that'll provide a bit more protection against our lovely rust belt. Also, in your copious amounts of spare time, design yourself two pressurized water spray bars that are capable of spraying the underside of the truck. It WILL pay off in the long run. Good luck!!

We live in the semi desert in Western Queensland (Australia) and have 4 Toyotas. One of them is 40 years old and has over 720,000 on the clock. Rust does not happen in the semi desert, but not having anything but gravel and dirt roads for 60 miles, we specialize in wrecking tyres and suspensions! We don't have your towing requirements and have stuck with Toyotas for reliability, and because we can usually fix them. Great video Matt you are correct the 6.7 powerstroke and the other modern trucks use common rail injection, but when you were explaining how it works, you confused it for the HEUI (hydraulic electronic unit injectors) system found in the 6.0l and 7.3l powerstrokes. Common rail uses a high-pressure fuel pump to create constant pressure in the fuel rails, and the injectors are controlled electronically. Similar to modern direct injection gasoline engines but the diesels operate at a much higher pressure. Keep up the good work, really liking the videos recently excited to you fully moved into the new shop.

Yup. Cat was the HEUI people, Navistar used it.....maybe that's why they aren't making on road stuff any more? Cummins used something similar with the STC engine, 88NT 365 + hp and N14P. Oil was used in the top half of the injector to advance injection timing at no/low load and at around 50 ish lbs of rail pressure, the oil was shut off and the engine went into nominal timing. Is the cardboard under frozen pizza going to be "extra" next? Is a cord on a TV going to be extra? Is sliced bread going to be extra? These foolish ways to make money... or supposedly save money are getting ridiculous. Never use? That's a ridiculous assumption. Do you wait until you get a cut to buy a box of bandaids? Do you wait to buy a can opener for your kitchen until you found a can that's not an easy pop top? Would you pay extra for shoelaces if they stopped including them with shoes, since a lot of people don't tie their shoes? Roadside assistance only works if you #1 have reception, and a cell phone... with a charged battery. #2 if the "service" isn't overflowing with calls during something such as a snowstorm. What would an 87 year old grandmother do if she was stuck in a snowstorm with a flat, some teenagers on snowmobiles come past and can't even change the tire since there isn't a spare tire?

@@edpoints1127 the reality is that the first owner does not want to fork over money for things they won't need. like back in the day stainless steel exhaust was thought about, but regular mild steel lasts 4-5 years anywhere, so original owner never needs to replace it. no incentive to pay an extra 50 or 100 bucks for stainless exhaust for the next owner. Same thing with spare tires. likelihood of you needing it during the first 4 years is super low, and you have free roadside assistance. no reason to buy a tire for the next owner. car bodies had a rust through warranty just long enough where the original owner never saw rust. No reason to pay more so the second owner does not see rust either. you could think of many more examples for this. most cars are sold before they are 4 years old.

If you look in your fuse box; look up your cig lighter fuse, and it will typically have 3 slots for the fuse --- Putting the fuse on one side will give you battery power all the time, or if you move the fuse over to the other slot -- it will give you the key-only power.. I've seen some vehicles have the ability to change it with a good scantool; You can also turn off your seat belt buzzer and the auto locking doors when you put it in gear, and even the auto-window roll down at the drivers window. You can then wire in a hard wire plug so that you can charge batteries and stuff. You can also add a solar panel to your roof and a PWM charge controller to add extra power in while your rig is parked or when you are charging other things. The main power can come from your alternator. Someone I know had this installed in their service bed. Good morning Matt and to all. 2.25.24 I really enjoy watching all and am 84 years old. All good and Spent 20+ years in the US Army and working worldwide during that period of my like. In the 1950s I worked with Allis Chambers many times and years at the Fair i Knoxville, TN. I did enjoy that times and working with the men there for about 4 years during 1953-1957. They were so good at teaching me about old farm equipment during those years,

I'm with you Matt, heated seats are a must, I have a damaged back and it's so good especially in winter or when it's wet. My last car you couldn't get to change the front side lights and indicators unless that is you took the front of the car off! Fortunately my new one is much easier. With regards to oil changes on my diesel it's religiously every 10,000 miles. It just means that the engines don't start chucking out black smoke. That's a nice truck, hope it gives you many years of use. Happy Christmas to you and Eva, hope you have a lovely time.

I also went from a 2004 F350 SRW to a F450, a 2012 KR 450 with the 6.7. Bought it used from Texas, zero rust, brought it to IL, rust belt as well. Had a few good years until i had a manifold leak about a year and a half ago. Limped it along until tax time fixed the leak and replaced the turbo, and deleted it the most efficient way i could find earlier this year. Now its 5” straight piped stainless with an 8” axle dump, it sounds real mean now, but as you stated not as cool as my 6.0 sounded. About a year after i bought the 450, i decided not everything needed a dually pulling it, so i bought a 2004 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 gasser, also a Texas truck, with a plow and snow tires on it, to both act as a backup truck, and to make some money with during snow season, and it is the only one that sees salty roads. I love the combo between the two and its nice to have the choice in utility when fuel prices soar. I doubt i will ever go back to a one truck does it all solution. Best of luck with the F450 and let me know if you need some advice on deleting it, i swear to crap, it feels like 520HP 1050ftlbs of torque now

Looks a very nice thing, that does! Regarding your charging sockets, I’d suggest perhaps buying a smallish portable power station, most have AC, 12V DC and multiple USB sockets, you’d be able to charge camera batteries, phones, run lighting etc from that while the truck is off and then recharge the power station from the truck’s AC outlet when you’re driving.

As many 6.0 in a junk yard with bad motors and what not I bet you could find one out west that you can rob a frame from or swap you motor and trans into and keep it around as a winter truck to keep the f450 from rotting out. Just get a 5 gallon pale of fluid film and the sprayer and undercoat every fall and you won’t have as bad of a rust problem.

Hey Matt. On your oil change if you put all that oil in you may have over filled it. The 6.7 powerstroke up to 450 holds 13 quarts and the 550 up holds 15 quarts. Also if its not been done replace the oil separator around every 30k miles or you’ll be doing an engine reseal. Ive done several reseals because of the oil seynot being changed. Keyboard mechanic observations FWIW. I would have filled new oil filter with oil before installing. In the video you were describing the fuel injector system used on 7.3L and 6.0L Powerstroke engines called Hydraulically actuated Electronic Unit Injection (HEUI). That system uses the engine oil as high pressure hydraulic fluid to fire the injectors. The engine oil would shear because of the really high pressure required to fire the injectors, so frequent oil changes were needed on those engines. The 6.7 does not use that system it uses a common rail fuel system. T-6 is all I use on turbo charged diesels. I was looking at replacing my Covercraft canvas seat covers purchased in 2003. I was looking at the Carhart covers.

25:18 common rail is not the same as Heui oil fed electric over hydraulic injection. That has a pump that takes the diesel from a low pressure and creates a high pressure with just the fuel. They don’t run off engine oil like the old Heui system in that 6.0 which is why you really want archoil ar 6500 to keep that high pressure fuel pump lubricated and happy.

@bertpenney35262 жыл бұрын
I'm not a Ford guy but that truck is a beautiful one. I do have to take exception of your comments about the type of trailer you wish to pull, though. A goose neck with a 5th wheel pin is safer than a bumper pull or a goose neck with a ball hitch. You can also jackknife a goose neck to a much greater angle than a bumper pull giving you a much better turning angle. Plus, since a goose neck trailers mount point is ahead of the rear axle, you can pull significantly more than with a bumper pull without adversely effecting your steering (as you add weight to the hitch of a bumper pull, you reduce the weight on the front axle - that is not true with a goose neck). As a result, your F450 has a 37,000 lb tow limit if you are pulling a goose neck but is restricted to 24,200 lb with a bumper pull trailer.

That's a nice ride and I have no doubt it's going to be a great upgrade. Does it have airbags in the seats? If so, be sure your seat covers have matching blow-out panels or they will interfere, possibly blocking entirely, with their deployment in an accident.

We loved our 1998 7.3l but it was only 2 wheel drive and it was just an extended cab. Bought 2004 6.0 and had the worst luck with it. traded that in on a 2008 6.3l that had 180k miles on it in 2012 (it was rode hard before we got it). It now has 288k on it and she's tired out, but she still pulls the 40ft 5th wheel, the race car trailer, the 4 -horse trailer and the 35 foot hay trailer all over the pacific NW (including the dreaded Cabbage Hill Pass on I-84, which is a trucker's nightmare, most of them call it Deadman's pass. 6% grades, a climb of 2000 ft with double -hairpin turns) for this family and another family that intermittently needs something with more power to haul. I have converted my poor Chevy loving husband into a tried and true Ford Truck fan.
@outlawfarms38642 жыл бұрын
I believe that the towing capacity can vary from truck to truck really. I have a 89 F-Superduty (first F-450 made) and every summer I haul 30 round bales @ 1200lbs each weighing in at roughly 36,000lbs not counting the trailer as its a BigTex 35+5 trailer weighing about 8,900lbs. I'm running a bone stock Navistar 7.3 idi with a 5 speed but my gearing has been changed to accommodate a larger load. The farmer i haul hay for has a 2020 F-450 and he has issues pulling that kind of load. Gearing has a huge role in the towing cap as well. Every truck manufacturer will keep updating there trucks to be better than the others but out of the 5 trucks I've owned (5.9,6.7 cummins, 6.6 duramax and 7.3 powerstroke and the 7.3 idi )I always go back to my 89 superduty its been the most reliable engine and everything. That being said I know someone will throw hatred towards this post for the simple fact that its the truth, gearing has the greatest effect on the towing.

Common rail uses a high pressure pump to pump the fuel upto high pressure in the common rail. The injectors are connected using short high pressure pipes to the common rail and are controlled by electronic spill control valves on/in each injector controlled by the ECU. The system you described was the Cat HEUI system and as far as I'm aware not used on anything apart from CAT C9's and some Navistar products. The reason that you require better oils for modern, low emissions diesels is that the retarded injection timings and EGR required to hit current emissions regs leads to increased soot loadings in the oil.
