Hate to state the obvious, but off rd and on road diesel are the same ULSD product now except for the dye. Not a contributor to smoke. Great buy, yes. Congrats

If I remember correctly an old trick they used was adding tranny fluid to the fuel to clean the injectors which could be out of spec or possibly even gummed up. I'm no pro at diesels but a quick Internet search should explain how it works better than I can. Good luck, nice machine. Hope it serves you well.

You should lift up the side of the machine you are trying to tension the track on. There is a spec for clearance between two points. Over tensioning can lead to track damage. Great vid. New sub. I paid 9K for a 2011 Bobcat 325 with 1926 hours on it with a hydraulic thumb and love it. I live in upstate NY and equipment is hard to get unless you want to do allot of work on them. I have the KH50. Bought it at RB Auction for $7500 canadian dollars. 2400hrs. No need to go to the dealer, it is grey market the dealer does not want to talk to you anyway. All parts on the machine are available aftermarket. Example engine is a D950. Glow plugs will pretty well guaranteed to be burnt out try for 11 amps each total 33 amps on the main wire with your clamp on DC ammeter. Glow plugs are standard crossed it to bosch to avoid the dealer. The cylinder seal any hyd shop can source seal sets I repacked 4 of the cylinders. Hyd hoses are NPT and ORB nothing special. On the NPT had to use liquid loctite hyd thread sealer. Tape and pipe dope did not seal. Undercarriage did all the rollers with off the shelf metric bearings and seals. Tracks replaced from local track specialty supplier. Idler bushings made them myself on the lathe from a chunk of brass stock. The controls have those heim joints, these are readily available too no need to go to a dealer. Made a custom sized hyd thumb with a 3 way 12v valve off the bucket hoses. Press button for thumb release for bucket using same controls. Pins and bushing are all worn out so have been replacing these with standard size after boring. New seat was a $75 special from Princess Auto the canadian equivalent to your tractor supply. There is a suction strainer inside the hyd tank. Condensation in the hyd fluid makes this strainer plug up with ice in winter and you get zero movement. The strainer is an off the shelf NPT thread. Take the strainer off, thaw it on the woodstove then put it back. Hyd oil up to your elbow deep. Carefully check the supports back of the roll cage mine were rusted to the point the whole canopy was ready to fall off. Funny that was the only spots rusted badly. Still to do is the main boom to base joint. Mine is so badly seized tried heat and 20 ton press still could not shift the pin. The swing cyl is worn out at the cyl end.

Looks like a decent machine Dave , I see that when you was loading the dumpster that the engine smoking had stopped. Maybe an oil change was what it needed to stop that? Off road Diesel has changed Dave , here is a little bit of an article that I found on it. Wishing you all the best with your new equipment! 👍 On-Road and Off-Road Diesel - What’s the difference? There is no chemical difference between on-road and off-road diesel fuels. On-road diesel, also known as clear diesel, can be purchased at the local gas station. Off-road diesel is dyed red and is sold through bulk distributors. The only differences are in the color, cost, and intended use. In the past, off-road diesel had a higher sulfur content, which caused a smokier burn. With changes to fuel specifications from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) gradually implemented beginning in 2008 and completely enacted in 2014, the two fuels are chemically identical except for the coloration. What Is Off-Road Diesel? As the name implies, off-road diesel is for use by farms (agricultural use), industrial, and construction vehicles that do not travel on public roadways. It is not taxed, which allows a lower pricing scale. Using red-dyed diesel in the truck you drive to and from work could net you a hefty fine. Nontaxed diesel fuel uses are defined in both state and federal tax laws. While the federal laws are applicable in all states and territories, some specific uses may be permitted within individual states. Tax rates also vary from state to state, although the federal taxes remain the same across the board. The goal of increased regulations regarding off-road diesel is designed to reduce emissions control as part of the clean air initiative. By reducing sulfur content, off-road fuels are producing fewer air pollutants. In many instances, exhaust emissions have been decreased by as much as 90%. Emissions standards for diesel-powered marine vessels and locomotives are not included in current regulations. There are plans to revise and apply a more strict policy regarding these uses in the near future.

Using "off road" fuel does NOT make a diesel engine smoke! The only thing different about it, is the dye they put in to show you haven't paid road tax on it so they can lock you up if you're caught with it in your "on road" vehicle. I've ran farm equipment for decades with off road fuel, and none smoke until there is an engine problem. A little smoke on start up is quite common though.
