I’m probably going to be buried under a lot of other comments, but I do feel like I should clarify a couple things. Also personal bias, since I did buy my laptop at Costco. 1) I’m guessing selection is dependent on store; the lowest spec ones for gaming I see at my Costco are rtx 3050s. So maybe that’s why you ended up with a 2050 (def don’t have that here). 2) Costco has great seasonal sales. For example, for 2 months starting in January, they were offering MSI rtx 4050 laptops for 600 dollars. Sometimes there’s discount on top of discounts; I got my Lenovo legion 5 i7 13900 hx rtx 4060 with 32 gb ram and 1 tb of storage, 2560x1600 165 hz screen for $1,000 dollars. So your mileage will vary depending on the month you buy, and good stock will run dry quickly. 3) The 90 Day return policy is godly. As long as you ever a receipt, paper or digital, they’ll take back the laptop as long as it’s relatively okay(if it looks like it got run over by a truck not sure if they’ll take it back 😅). Have buyers remorse 85 days in and want your money back instantly? Return to the store with no questions asked. It’s also great because if you settle on one model of laptop that’s on sale and the and another retailer like Best Buy discounts a different brand or spec 2 months later, you can return the Costco one and buy your desired laptop. It’s essentially a 90 day buyers insurance. Anyone here’s some insight why someone would buy electronics at Costco. Fun video to watch, but I do feel like it does put Costco in general in a bad light when I’ve had the complete opposite experience, so wanted to share.

I agree that if buying a computer at Costco you need to know what you want and just wait for something similar to come in at a good price. Costco is a bad place to if you don't know what you're looking for and need it that day because the selection is so variable. Also Costco does not seem to care the condition of returned merchandise. I once had someone in line in front of me at customer service returning an above ground pool kit, clearly after it had already been installed. It was several piles of mangled metal spread over many of the big item carts with a bonus cart for the pump. It looked like when they disassembled it they just ripped it apart as all the screw holes had been torn open into jagged wounds, every panel was bent, dented and warped. He was successful in his return. I've always returned things in good condition but they will take anything back from what I have seen and that is a huge bonus as a customer.

Times have certainly changed. I wanted to build a gaming rig in 2021. Prices were outrageous for components at that time, but I really wanted to get back into gaming. I bought an MSI GF-75 Slim with an i5-10300H and GTX 1650Ti for $600. They had a deal for $100 off any computer too, so it was like $580 out the door. Underpowered, poor build quality like Dawid mentioned? Absolutely. But I knew what I was getting and it got me back into gaming, so it served its purpose and served me well.

I also liked the design, it's simple with white backlight on the keyboard (I don't really like RBG). I'm really happy with it.

I did - bought an MSI Gaming desktop - and at the time it was a great price for what the unit provided - plus 90 days off the rip to return if it doesn't work out - my first unit was defective hardware - swapped no questions asked (I did have the defect confrimed through MIS customer service - brought that to Costco - 2nd unit running flawless (after a couple of upgrades - solid rig) I even got MSI to send me a mesh cover (as on display - because the one in the box was glass) - MSI (surprisingly) and Costco get a+ from me. Next time though - if not in the midst of a pandemic, I'll build myself - I have 1 hour drive to Micro Center - so 2 years more I think.

Referring to my local Costco - I’ve never bought a laptop from them but rarely do they ever have what I’m looking for. But they’ve had reasonable prices for laptops normal people might buy, often with more ram/storage than you’d find at price parity elsewhere. So if I were to suggest a nice build quality igpu laptop for my mom or an entry level gaming laptop for a 12 year old cousin - you could go far worse given their warranty etc.

Hey, I used to work at the call center for Costco, it was complete garbage the techs aren't allowed to use any screen sharing tools and they have a basic troubleshooting that the techs have to follow and the ending answer in most problem's cases is reinstall windows, or return the machine to the store. It was very frustrating and consider it the worse tech job possible in the universe.

Better than Best buy, my girlfriend bought an Asus Zephyrus M16 and out of the box it had a Screw totally flattened so you could not open it, important if you want to use the extra m.2 available! And not only that, when the fans stopped working within a year, and we went to the shop here the store said THATS NORMAL, they do that on purpose! We had to "void" the guarantee to upgrade the SSD and clean the fans (bearings were busted) and the replacements take from 3 to 6 WEEKS to come from China... I wanted to give the PC back but was purchased online and wasn't possible as is her working pc, i feel so bad for her, I also hate it blows incredibly hot air to the screen like, WHY?

most people who buy it from costco do so because of the return policy and customer service, we had a toshiba tv die in about 1.5 years, they sent a repair guy and that did not fix it, costco took it back and issued a full credit towards a new tv. I recall people taking advantage of the generous policy, and costco having to walk it back a lot because some people were using it to upgrade devices rather than for genuine issues.

This is a pretty reasonable budget laptop, I’m just convinced that Acer’s products are over hyped, I grabbed an Acer Predator Helios 16 that I’m going to be returning in favor of a Lenovo Legion 7i pro. The acer was competently built, cooling was fine even if it sounds like a jet engine with the fans turned up, but they made the decision to lock undervolting and overclocking on a 13900HX. No amount of advanced bios tinkering with smokeless could fix it, it’s just such a missed opportunity. As far as Costco laptops go, they occasionally have good deals, I grabbed an MSI laptop from Costco in 2021 that was about $300 cheaper than every other laptop with the same or similar configs, they usually don’t carry higher-end laptops but can have pretty competitive prices on mid-ranged hardware.

My Acer's like that too! It's an Aspire A515-56, as a non-gaming model I don't think it came with fan controls in Windows, and it has no ACPI or anything to control it from Linux. But I found a setup for nbfc that let me set a fan curve. Turns out, just like the one you had, stock settings never get the fan up to full speed; and getting it to full speed makes for a massive increase in fan noise with only about a 5 degree difference in temps.

You can return items for absurd amount of time and you get an extra year's warranty from them on top of the manufacturer's warranty. Now, as an adult, I don't really care because I don't treat my electronics like I hate them, but if you buy this for a kid who is likely going to treat it badly, that could come in handy.

I know you're joking, but there are people I know, in my gaming outfit, who live in the southern hemisphere over in Australasia land, and they're legitimately considering a trip to the US to visit, hanging out with other gamers, maybe spend some time touching grass, and buy PC upgrades. Because a ticket from Kiwiland or Emutopia is cheaper than the import duties he'd have to pay, and due to free trade agreements, they can buy a certain amount of stuff tax-free (enough for a gaming PC) and bring it back. A number of Southeast Asian and Asian Pacific Island nations are in a similar situation, though most of them also have average per-capita incomes that are too low to take advantage of such a deal anyway. Still, wealthy people in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam etc can take a trip to Honolulu and make out like bandits buying electronics, despite those same electronics being manufactured in the region, some of them even in Vietnam and Thailand now, as people move away from manufacturing in China.

In late 2015 I decided I wanted to get into PC gaming. I went to Costco and got a HP tower with an i7-6700 16gb of RAM, and a 1tb hdd. Don't remember what it cost but it was a good deal. Got it home and slapped a 256gb SSD, a 650w PSU and a GTX 970 in it. Decided after a month that I wanted to build a custom PC from the ground up, so I returned the tower to stock and took it back to Costco. They took a quick look at it, asked me if there was anything wrong with it (I said no I just didn't like it), and gave me all my money back without issue. For that reason I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from Costco, PCs or otherwise.

Thinking about doing this with the MSI laptop I bought in 2021 that is literally falling apart. I've been using a Dyson purifier/heater for over a decade. I am actually on my third one but still only into it for about $450. The current model I have now costs $530 on sale at Costco. The original Pure Hot and Cool model I had cost around $300 and then I've had to pay a total of $150 additional for the two replacements. When the current one craps out (and it will), I'm taking it back to costco and I'll get the next model for like $100. The reason Costco has had to price them at nearly the same cost as on the Dyson website is because of all the returns they've done on them over the years. I also tried 4k for a week courtesy of Costco. Then I returned the TV and got a 2k monitor. I can't afford the data for the 4k content and I would rather have half the pixels at 3x the framerate.

I have a similar story, but with Sams Club. I bought their floor model HP Envy desktop on clearance in late 2017 with similar specs, but its HDD was 2tb. I placed in a 1050ti, and it served as a great beginners gaming PC for the time. When I was ready to build my own, I gave the HP to a friend who wanted something that could run Skyrim with mods. That's about all the PC gaming she does, so it should last her long enough that she shouldn't need anything newer until Microsoft stops supporting Windows 10

When I wanted a newer tablet I bought it at Costco because of the return policy. I wasen't happy of the performance for the price, returned it no question asked. I didn't hesitate the next year to try a newer model and it was amasing for the price. Still works 6 years later. You definetly have to wait for a good deal though. Often it's overpriced.

The reason Costco is used for electronics is their Unmatched Return policy. 2 years for laptops, desktops, monitors, tv's. No questions asked. No other reseller is close in the USA/Canada.

It's also worth pointing out when looking at Costco online prices that if they are carried in store as well, they are much cheaper in store.

Not different pricing on computers. A lot of the computers online have a $14.99 shipping charge in the US and are priced identically to in store. Larger items that ship via freight have shipping charges built into the cost of the product. -Costco electronics employee.

What you didn't say about Costco is that the offer you 90 days or warranty while you're an active member and can return the item no questions asked and that they regularly have sales or added value like that PS5 or a tablet with keyboard and case for the same price as the plain version elsewhere.

I was in the market for a new laptop in college with an $800 budget and I found a 2021 Acer Swift X around that price point. With a R7 5725U, 3050Ti, and 16gb of RAM, it actually games much better than you'd expect, and handles video editing like it's nothing. Battery life is decent and it's all metal. The newer models are even better, with 120hz displays. Moral of the story: don't just look at "gaming" laptops, you might be able to find something even better if you looker further.
