SVX was my first and third car. I'll always love em, even if they're flawed. My dad now drives the one that was my 3rd car. It has around 95k km and not a single scratch and everything works. The transmission is out of my first one which got rebuild. That one is gonna live forever.

3yrs ago I bought my 92 SVX LS-L for $500. It had 1st and reverse, trashed seats and dash, the struts fell apart, only 3 OEM wheels and no spare, fuel pump in the trunk running out of a gas can, and a host of other issues. Right now the engine is rebuilt, the transmission is nearly complete and getting a 4.44 gear swap, coilovers, SS brake hoses, rewired the harness, new tires and wheels. I don't plan on selling since this is the car I've always wanted, and I won't recoup even 1/4 of the cost of repairs. It will be a daily that's capable of canyon carving. That's just what I want.

1992 Pearlie SVX owner here. The SVX is a super underrated car. The transmission does suck ass and goes tits-up every 80k miles. The wheel bearings are also prone to failing. One of mine went last week.
@27Zangle6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but those engines will run and run and run. They do not die as long as oil pressure is up and coolant is in the system.
@jj85686 жыл бұрын
The key to the transmission is to run an auxiliary tranny cooler. The existing one runs through the bottom of the radiator; which had a tendency to plug up. I bypassed that and ran it through a tranny cooler from a Ford super duty truck. Mounted it in front of the driver front tire. There is a scoop on the splash guard the that can be cut out to run Air across the cooler. Worked like a charm.
@DoomFinger5116 жыл бұрын

I think people get bummed because you have the resources to get this thing tip-top while a lot of us get blown off by garages when we say we want something, that might be left-of-center, to be made 'perfect.' Lots of eye-rolls and hands-in-the-air from shops that would rather stick to fleet repairs than have to deal with an unusual or 'difficult' car. That said, I know what a nightmare it is to try and sell stuff online. But this is a cool weird car that has a really nostalgic aspect for a lot of us and it'll be too bad to see it just get ridden hard and put away wet until it finally gets put to rest. It is what it is, though.

That's the one subie I really wanted! I love the WRX but the SVX is overlooked. Hopefully, I can find one for a good price and in good condition. Parts hopefully will not be too expensive , unless you live in the middle of nowhere. But seeing that this car doesn't have much of an aftermarket presence, you better not break anything sensitive that'll cost you.
@MrRickChase6 жыл бұрын
but there wasn't much of an aftermarket for the engine was there? The 4cyl boxer has obviously been more popular, but not sure about the 6cyl

@eat_a_dick_trudeau6 жыл бұрын
Parts for the SVX are extremely hard to get. I have a '94 LSi, in two-tone white and black, and, the majority of repairs I have had to do, have been actual repairs of the failed parts, rather than replacement. Subaru has discontinued a lot of parts, and, there is little to no cross-compatibility on other Subarus. Finding used parts is a lottery. IF you can find someone who has the parts, you have to hit the jackpot in that they are WILLING to sell it to you. Most people hoard their parts, because they know they can't buy more.

@rogerdalton15496 жыл бұрын
That intro music gets me every time. I love that 80's synth sound - is it an original song just for this show? Great car find too, it reminded me of the brief cameo the SVX had in the 90's movie "Loaded Weapon 1" - the Lethal Weapon spoof with Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson. The SVX was driven by the Antagonists head henchmen, played by Tim Curry. He suprisingly gets the SVX to oversteer nicely as he's escaping the good guys. what a great find for only $500!! the front seats look to be in decent shape for being over 20 years old... a unique car it is and was however, a super car it NEVER was.... the rally svx is the BEST idea for this one you got!

Are you aware that your theme song is in a different octave?

Audacity was recommended to Tyler last vid to help with his audio issues. Sounds like he learned to use the pitch shifter, hah ha. P.S. The theme is in a different key now, not octave.

I was hoping to win the Lincoln but it wasn't in the stars! Sorry to hear that didn't work out as you hoped. I think it would have been a fun edition to my channel and I would have enjoyed doing videos with Doug with it. :)

I had a 2/91 build Pearl white AWD SVX ansd loved it. Fun Fact: the same designer of the DMC-12 body designed the SVX body as well. This is why it had the window-in-window design. This car always turned heads when I drove it, and most people did not know what it was.
