great video, good lighting and angle to see what is otherwise a bit blind. got my thumbs up. i had major difficulty inserting the solenoid with oring, so i installed the oring, lubed up the shaft and ahem, inserted the shaft into the hole.

Thanks! I ran cheapo solenoids which seemed to work at first but still threw some codes occasionally (the ones directly related to the camshaft operations). Bought new genuine (as recommended by BMW Doctor) and haven't gotten a vanos related code thus far. I've used the vanos test in INPA for all 3 sets (stock, cheapo & new genuine) and they seem to pass.

I had the same weird high rpm cylinder 6 misfire after like 5800 rpm. I tried changing the injector, spark plug, coil pack, wiring harness, tune, and even hpfp with no luck. I even tried the tephlon seal method that you made a video on but nothing changed. Any tune I flashed it to I would almost always misfire around 6k rpm. I then got into an accident, got another 335i, put all my bolt ons back and the misfire followed!!! That’s when I knew it wasn’t internal motor damage and it had to be cause by one of my bolt ons. Long story short I took a gamble and placed my money on it being the lpfp and ordered a new one. Turns out something was up with my fuel it stage 2 lpfp because when I replaced it with a spool performance stage 2 lpfp it’s been running like a dream I’m finally able to hit red line and send logs to my tuner. I know it sounds it sounds unlikely that a weak or old lpfp could only cause a cylinder 6 issue but my guess is that it’s because it’s the last injector to get fuel. And I can’t back it up with logs because they both the lpfp sensor and rail pressure look normal!!! The only thing I have to prove this was that it worked for me. (Just wanted to add that I’m fbo, inlets outlets, pure stage 2, and xhp stage 3 transmission flashed)

Didn’t his low pressure fuel sensor reading drop below 60 psi a few times around 6k rpm anyway? Timing corrections on cylinder 5 as well? Aren’t those indications that he’s close to running out of fuel at those rpms? (P600 FBO)
@robertsimental14694 жыл бұрын
Constantine Lycos it could be. However after I got stage 3 lpfp and helix overdrive with full e85 misfire persisted. All injectors are new 12’s brand new two step colder plugs, and pr coils. After misfire detection turned off above 6k rpm my cars snaps to redline no problem or hiccup, (also P600) 27 psi too😉

Looking at the datalog, it seems like you might have an injector issue or an o2 sensor issue. When you have 0% throttle after the pull, you can see that the bank 1 afr are maxed out at 234.95 but bank 2 afr never maxes out meaning there are still fuel in bank 2. I know that you changed the injectors to index 12s but this is usually a symptom of leaking injector(s)

I’m having the same issue as you. Misfire after 6200rpm on cylinder#6 you should take a log of when it happens and get your tuner to review it. I changed everything on mine injector, spark plug, and coils. Yet the misfire was still there. I sent a log to my tuner and he said it’s false knock. If you’re on any of the Facebook groups for the n54 you can find a lot of people with the same issue. It seems to stem from the automatic transmission creating chatter at higher rpm and the knock sensors pick it up.

I ran Viaco Chinese solenoids. They lasted 1 year and still no codes but power loss is experienced. FYI these solenoids including bmws can fail with no codes. You will get terrible torque down low, your fuel economy will increase and the car will sound like its wheezing at high rpm. Also oil consumption occurs and engine runs hotter than normal. I have 3 sets that I am experimenting with - Viaco; pierberg and genuine bmw. The Vaico failed by the spring becoming loose internally. The bmw ones failed by the bore wearing away not holding pressure. I am currently running pierburg but not expecting them to last as long as bmws. I suggest programming the engine to run cooler and or adding an external oil cooler. These problems seems to be caused by the engine running so hot. Those electrical coils cannot survive that heat for so long.

I have been getting INTAKE Vanos codes as well as boost pressure codes so I replaced the Vanos solenoids that were in the car, I'm assuming they were OEM as I bought the car with 56K miles on it. I replaced them with $40 Vanos solenoids from Amazon and didn't get a code for about 6 weeks. Now I get them every day but it seems to be only when the car is hot. If I let the car cool down and reset the code with MHD the codes only come back when the car is back up to temp again. If I reset while the car is hot and start it again, the codes are back in half a mile. So, I cleaned and swapped them over, the codes still came back and still on the INTAKE side. Do you have any suggestions ? Since the error didn't move when I switched the intake and exhaust solenoids I'm worried this is a cam ledge issue. It's a 2008 N54 (E88) now with 91K miles. I've done regular oil changes using the FCP oil change kits, the filter cap has the center piece, I'm stage 2 tuned (MHD). Man I looked at your log and you are not misfiring you are knocking hard even up to +7° the tune needs to be corrected it seems to be a fuel quality issue since timing isnt insane AFRs look good for E50, cant tell spark dwell but you need to have your tuner fix this, also your TMAP is doesnt seem to be operating correctly because a 3rd gear pull should for sure put more intake heat in, I would swap that out as well
@VehicularDIY4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input man, I might just upgrade to a 4 bar sensor and see how the IATs look. Maybe the car isn't pulling enough timing giving the actual IATs if its reporting low

Yeah, it is a Ken tune and he has done weird and unsafe things before. If DIY was wise, he would try another tune from a more reputable tuner.

I guess I'll have to check your channel to see if you and the guts to leave them in for at least until something seemed out of sorts. If I had seen this right when you up loaded it I would have asked you to "YES LEAVE THEN IN and see how long it takes until they fail" LOL. But I can't do that. Hey...maybe you left them in to see how long it would take until they failed and they're still in your car working like a charm. HA Ha just kidding.

Sorry I don't have any experience with ProTool but BimmerGeeks has a INPA download that is really easy to setup. You can download that from their site and set your laptop up with it.

Do not put cheap intake solenoids! I bought a 2007 bmw 530xi and just the other day the plug on the solenoid got red hot noticed smoke in engine bay pulled over opened the hood and noticed the plug for solenoid was red hot and caught on fire good thing i had a bottle of water and poured it on it, put the fire out noticed the plug was melted, took the solenoids out and of course previous owner put some cheap amazon solenoids..Long story short get close to oem parts spend the extra bucks wouldn't want no one to go through what happened to me..
Does anyone know which brands are good ones and which is OEM?

Lol yeah bro I did catch the video where you sent a set to Nathan and told him how it is. If you don't mind I have a question regarding using ICOM with ista. Would it be faster if I switched to ICOM from Dcan? I mean with an emulator and a basic amazon ICOM cable. I know you have a proper ICOM. Does having an real ICOM make it run faster as well? Thanks man.

Vehicular DIY mate yes take them straight out or what will happen your timing will JUMP and you will be screwed mate as you will have to re time it as the solenoids will cause it when the dme is trying to advance the timing the solenoids ain’t going along with it and that will be it mate so we warned Also mate yes mate I use icom to be fair and it ain’t as fast as people think the only reason I use icom mate is I do ALOT of bmw dealers here and they won’t let me use a cable no chance I can’t go no where near a car with that there Also you can’t update idrive and gm gearbox with a cable mate you will brick it BUT if you want a good cable that does everything Go for a bimmergeeks cable mate there brilliant I also have a new device which is BETTER then a icom I will be releasing soon mate so stay tuned for that no need for that big box anymore Just bro trust me I’m advising you properly your gonna need to email me mate and send me your number and you can call me instead of chatting on here when you need something bro But I know you don’t like to be seen 😂 don’t worry mate I won’t let anyone know who you are behind the scenes bro I was the same for months
