I own a 2004 VZ Holden Commodore Lumina which I purchased in April 2005 brand new, it's getting closer to 19 years ownership, and I still love staring at it, as I did all those years ago, the VZ design is my favourite.

My wife has a thunder. Has all the mods you have the biggest cam that we could get ls7 lifters double valve springs. Gear box tuned 0 lag between shifts. Rev limiter lifted Gone from factory 180 kmh in 3rd to almost 220. On drag strip 11.8 seconds at over 200 km/h

Not a bad buy for the Ute. Can’t wait to see it done up. It has a nice exhaust note. The paint has definitely seen better days. I’d be interested in seeing what it would look like in a yellow wrap. It likely does have a shift kit by the way the box is behaving. I can see this tidying up into a nice Ute.

Mate missed a prime opportunity for inserting the FNF2 clip when you said 'pop the bonnet' 😅 Great pickup and welcome to the club mate! Also, on the gearbox, another Thunder perk (at least when stock) that the 6L VZ's came with the 4L65e rather than the 4L60 auto. Benefits gained from the 4L65e are mostly internal but: * Five-pinion gears for input and reaction gearsets (versus four-pinion gears in the 4L60) Can handle around 40Nm more torque off the top of my head. * Heat-treated stator shaft splines * Induction hardened turbine shaft * Heavier-duty low/reverse roller clutch * Additional friction plate added to 3-4 clutch and a deeper pan for more fluid were added. (seven plates versus six in 4L60) * Shot-peened output shaft * Revised valve body calibration. But a few people say they naturally feel a bit firmer then the 4L60's.

Mr Reviews.... just thought I'd point this out for you. Notice the lack of AFM (air flow meter) between your OTR and your TB ? This can't be done without an aftermarket tune. Hence the term "maffless tune" so in short, yeah it's definitely had a tune! Easiest way to find out if the gearbox has also had a remap is to see if it will take off in second gear when locked in the 2nd gear slot. If it kicks back to first on it's own then it's unlikely that the gearbox was mapped. I'm tipping it that I most likely would have been though. 👍

The exhaust note sounds awesome. I reckon change the tail lights back to original, the ones on it at the moment look cheap, and take off the decal that’s on the side. It’ll be a nice project bringing it back up to a certain standard

The taillights on the Thunder are very chrome looking . You might find those lights are stock for a Thunder . Leave the ute in the sun and the chrome vinyl inside peals . I had a 6 speed manual Thunder. Last day I owned it was one of my saddest days ever ..

Had a WH stato with similar mods but had dump pipes under the front seats which was made of stock cats that were chopped and reversed, dumped on 20s and I dumped it even further by pulling the relay for the factory bags in the rear, depending on how well the shift kit is done could mean the difference between blowing you the transmission cooler and not. When that happened it started to run real rough and couldn’t figure out why, it was kinda after letting the car sit for a while but the red flag was the pink engine oil because the transmission fluid mixed with the engine oil, I thought it was the head gaskets or valley gaskets but was wrong. Aside from that was an awesome car just had rust in the chassis upon inspection to get the canary removed, was pretty gutted to let that car go but sold it to a mate to get a deposit for finance on a VE SSV 60th anniversary, he used my WH for a L67 to LS1 conversion in a VT Calais. He even swapped over the one of a kind interior I swapped into it, was originally shitty cloth interior but literally was just cream leather but I took the cream leather inserts off a set of beige door cards and put them on the grey ones that matched the dash otherwise it would have been pointless. But you’re gonna love that Ute bro, even tho I can admit the Barras go hard even tho I’ve always been a Holden enthusiast there’s nothing like an LS with some tasteful mods. The sound is just hard to forget

While your caming it, replace the rocker trunions with CHE kit, reason being standard trunion have needle bearing which fails, dumping the needles into your motor. Very common issue with ls.

I brought a vz Maloo this year for a good price with a 408 stroker in it, thought it would need a couple of things. Took it in for a dyno tune ended up costing 6500. Picked up heaps of little things. By the time I added suspension, detail and repainting the wheels that also needed knew tyres. So far I’m at 10k.

If you convert it into manual get the T56 magnum there new and better then the older T56. Also I have a VZ ss Ls1 in the six speed and I got a BTR stage 3 cam with mods underdrive kit OTR and a 3inc exhaust it made 323 at the wheels. I would recommend BTR cam shaft

Id say the box has had a tune, my SS behaves nice and calm in standard mode but holds the gears to 6800 and nearly snaps your neck when in power shift mode via the power button, when you get a cam get the tuner to set it like this best of both worlds.

I had a VE series 2 Berlina wagon, my mum had a 2012 fg MK2 g6 ecoboost and dad had a 2012 base model ecolipi ute. The falcons drove far better than the Berlina but by god was the berlinas interior better.
