Congrats on a great machine! Speaking from 2 years and 32,000 miles experience on my 2015 Super Tenere ES, the throttle smooths out with an ecu remap. I paid $225 at 2 Wheel Dyno, well worth it, smoother and quicker feeling. I think you're running a good tire setup. I don't mind the back getting loose offroad, TC set to 2 works for me. I don't want abs off on a 600 pound bike. I ride enthusiastically on paved and gravel without problems. Try standing on gravel, lean the bike, stay vertical yourself, steer with your throttle. You did good! I just bought the same 2012 model myself and paid quite a bit more than you did. But it has lower miles and top of the line suspension mods. My plan is to ride from the Bay Area, California to South Carolina coast. I did a lot of research and this was the bike I kept coming back to. I just spooned on some Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires and I hope they last me there and back, but we'll see...

I did the same thing a month ago. 5 hours away from me. 2012 40000 miles all the mods and boxes. New shinko tires. $4000 the guy was moving. Very happy with it.

Nice grab. I just picked up the same bike for $4,000 here in AZ with 41,000. 3 OEM boxes, LED lights. I added all my parts off my '13 and sold the 13. Great bike, very nderrated machines and right now, they can be had for a song. Big ADV's arent seliing out here.

The ABS kill switch has nothing whatsoever to with the traction control button. Two totally different systems. Do just a little research and you will understand the TCS and ABS not only that you will also learn you have the best BIG Adventure bike of them all .......... enjoy

You can read page 3-21 to 3-22 in the owners manual. It states exactly what I said it does with the switch on the instrument control panel. How to disable the TCS. Also the switch on the handle bar (previous owners modification). does in-fact turn ABS and TCS off. I've tried it and it will turn it all off. "From the manual": The traction control system helps main- tain traction when accelerating on slip- pery surfaces, such as unpaved or wet roads. If sensors detect that the rear wheel is starting to slip (uncontrolled spinning), the traction control system assists by regulating engine power as needed until traction is restored. The traction control system indicator/warn- ing light flashes to let the rider know that traction control has engaged. The rider may also notice slight changes in engine and exhaust sounds when the traction control system is engaged. EWA15431 The traction control system is not a substitute for riding appropriately for the conditions. Traction control cannot prevent loss of traction due to excessive speed when entering turns, when accelerating hard at a sharp lean angle, or while braking, and cannot prevent front wheel slip- ping. As with any motorcycle, approach surfaces that may be slippery with caution and avoid es- pecially slippery surfaces. There are three traction control system modes: ● “TCS” mode “1”: Default mode ● “TCS” mode “2”: Sporty mode This mode decreases traction con- trol system assist, allowing the rear wheel to spin more freely than “TCS” mode “1”. ● “TCS” mode “Off”: The traction control system is turned off. The system may also be automatically disabled in some riding conditions (see “Resetting” on page 3-22). When the key is turned to “ON”, the traction control system is enabled and “TCS” “1” displays in the multi-function meter. The traction control system mode can be changed only when the key is in the “ON” position and the vehicle is not moving.

@@thedirtlifesupreameYeah, that’s for the TCS. As the other guy mentioned it’s different from the ABS. There is no way to turn ABS off on the Super Ten so people wire in these kill switches to the ABS fuse. The reason you want to turn off ABS is for locking the rear wheel up in off-road situations. Especially descending a steep hill on gravel. It’s common off-road practice to completely lock the rear tire and slide down a steep hill. The locked rear acts as a rudder to keep the bike straight and then you pulse the front brake to slow yourself down. You don’t want to lock the front wheel obviously, just the rear. This is why many modern bikes like the Ten700 have an abs button on the dash to disable the rear wheel ABS. Not having a button to disable rear wheel ABS is a pretty big oversight by a Yamaha engineers on the Super ten

Without a doubt, an excellent motorcycle, reliable, and I think it's the best value for money despite not having some electronic features like the current ones. Here in Brazil, it is very difficult to find something to buy.

Nice bike, looking to purchase one for my number 2 bike. I think it's funny hearing everyone say these are heavy bikes. I rode a roadglide for years. That's a heavy bike. Over 900 pounds.

I just bought mine (2015) I feel that the engine doesn't feel smooth at all on lower RPM. It just jerks a bit (but very annoying) If I try to maintain the same speed let's say on 2000-2500 rpm (on cruise control as well, so it's not about the gas handle). Do you feel the same on yours or it's completely smooth?

Depending on if you have it in sport mode or touring mode can really effect the feeling of the bike. Sport mode makes the throttle respond faster but makes the bike jerky, until you get used to it. Touring mode makes it respond a bit slower to throttle inputs. I've gotten used to riding in Sport mode, its not as jerky for me now that I know how it works. As for the smoothness of the engine. I don't think its that smooth, but its smoother than the old big bore 650s dirt bikes I've owned. And the engine shouldn't be lugged down to 2K. It runs much better at 3K and above. The engine needs to be rev'd, its runs more efficiently and smoother.

@@thedirtlifesupreame yeah, it seems smoother after 3000, but still it's a surprise for me that it jerks much below that. And I checked both modes, not related to that for sure. Even in cruise control it jerks below 3000 and I think above, but it's not as noticeable. I think that it may have something to do with the spark plugs / air filter or something else. Haven't checked them yet. Need to ride another Super Tenere to feel the difference if any. I guess that comparison is the key.

The clutch is pretty grabby. It doesn't have a slipper clutch. Have you tried to release the clutch lever slower? It is a hydraulic clutch which can take some getting used to if you only ever used a cable pull clutch. I try to rev match when my wife is on the back to make it smoother for her. That seems to work pretty good for me. It takes some practice, but its a much smoother way to shift the bike. I have a Honda CRF300L, it has a slipper clutch on it, you can release the clutch quickly and it seems smoother than my Super Tenere as well.

@@thedirtlifesupreame The clutch seems pretty nice and soft with a huge friction zone compared to Yamaha XVS 650 that I also have. The problem is not about how I release the clutch. it happens when the clutch is already released and the gas is even (same RPM during some time).

engine is smooth on this bike. But fueling might not be, like on every bike pretty much. Remap will help.

No YOU don't lean. The bike does. You should be able to have upright posture, inside arm is almost straight, outside arm bent for the angle and pitch of the bike. Crack of your butt on the crack "edge" of the seat. You should feel like you're on top of the bike and able to look down the outside fork tubes when done correctly.
