Dan//, correct. I’ve never understood everyone’s fascination with them. Yes, they will last a long time but they are completely gutless. Had a small f250, regular cab, with a manual, that thing was more gutless then my 4 banger s10 😂. But you could row gears like a maniac and still be doing 15 under speed limit just about every where you go.

@markasread4349 We never had any major engine or transmission repairs needed. Replaced the rear end after many miles. We had well over 200,000 miles on it. The only issue that I couldn't resolve was it kept draining the battery, so I traded it in. This occurred in the last year, but was fine until then.

I’m a diesel guy and we have a family in our church that love their 7.3 excursion. I drive a 95 7.3 and it’s the best. For a good SUV my go to is the 99-04 Chevy Tahoe or suburban, but when there’s not any of them available I would go for the excursion. That 7.3 will be running 20 more urs later. That 7.3 is a legendary motor of its kind, you can’t buy em like this anymore.

I have a 2005 4wd V10 Excursion too. I'm sure the 7.3l Diesel is a great beast of a motor, but personally, I just prefer the big block gas powered V10's sound. I only carry my 2 daughters with me, I put less than 10k miles a year on it, and I don't pull anything with it. So having a diesel isn't a huge need for me. This V10 is very reliable and plenty powerful enough for my needs. I took out the 3rd row so my 2 girls have a huge play area whenever I'm parked anywhere. 👌😁

@@huningtonsachs9043 I love mine so much. Did you end up getting it tuned and decatted? I put a LCD Edge Tuner on it. Gained a TON of power, and since I'm in Michigan where they don't do inspections or smog test, I took out the cat and opened up the piping from the headers back to 4in all the way back to some nice black stainless steel tips. Even though it made a ton more power with the tune, it actually started getting better fuel mileage at about 15-16mpg on the highway (compared to the 10-11) I was getting before 😍 plus the 4x4 works sooooooooo good everywhere I've been.

@@JTBCOOL1 GT38, or wicked wheel upgrade, or do something custom. I'm going custom: polished and upgraded Garrett. Best part is you don't need a massive lift, just a step ladder to get yourself up on top of the motor, the swap is doable yourself. Unhook the Y-pipe/splitter and get the turbo free of the pedestal and inlet/outlet. Replace the seals and pop the swap on. Easy like pie. Easier if you have two people to remove the hood for better access.

I've never actually been hands-on with one of these, only my second time ever seeing one. Fun little story in the early to thousands. Somebody rented one of these and went full on grand theft auto with it. Police were unable to do anything and powerless to stop it. I forget how many million dollars in damage. The man caused during his rampage. Was in Halifax guy was mentally unstable and was trying to commit suicide by cop. Problem was, the cops were no match for this super SUV. It's part why they ended up ordering a special armored vehicle for the department. I forget how many cop cars. This guy total bouncing them off like little bugs when they tried to do their Trained pit maneuvers and so forth. This guy blissfully just went from vehicle to vehicle swerving right and left, hitting everything in his path. They basically had to some degree box. The guy in to one part of the city and wait for him to run out of gas or get stock. I forget if he ended up getting one of the wheels jammed on something or ran out of gas. In the US. Obviously they would've just riddled it with bullets at their earliest convenience but being Halifax, Canada. The cops don't do that kind of thing here. I Thinking in the US, this guy would've been so dead in minutes.

I was going to say that if this happened in the US, the local agency would probably have set up spikes at some point to try and slow the thing down. If that didn't work, depending on the agency would get an armored truck to box it in to a degree. However, the most simple option would be to shoot the guy, which is sad to say in itself. The reason I say it with confidence, and like how you said, is due to the fact that if someone hits cops in an obvious attempt to hit them, or try to hit them, lethal force will be authorized, as he is not only now putting the normal people at risk, he is also putting officers at risk.

The average car has a cooling system capacity of about 2-3 gallons give or take. The 7.3 Super Duties/Excursions have 5 gallon cooling system capacities. The average car has an oil pan capacity of anywhere from 4 to 8 quarts give or take. The 7.3 Super Duties/Excursions hold 15 quarts in their oil pans plus about another 3 quarts running through the motor and high pressure oil pump reservoir. So it's no wonder this engine stays so cool. It's got so much self-cooling capability it's almost insulting to even need a water pump. In fact, there's an aftermarket thermostat made for these engines that are rated hotter than stock for certain applications.

@@habanero8192 I traded mine of this week and I'm already kicking myself. It was just so nice to drive.

I own a 2005 Excursion 4wd with a V10. Contrary to this guy, I think the V10 is also a great engine at least for this 2005 model year as that spark plug issue I believe was resolved by Ford. And I grew up around muscle cars so I do love the sound of a gas-powered big block V10. 👌

@@digitalsuperdaddy Mine was a 2000 v10. I never had any problems but I was definitely aware of the spark plug problems.

@@digitalsuperdaddy Oh man you got a big block 7.3 motor in a 4 ton suv. You must get better gas mileage than a hypermiling Honda insight.
