Looking at other benchmarks it seems as though there is only maybe a 7-8 fps frame drop down from a 12GB RTX-3060 to 12GB RTX-2060 which is pretty negligible, but as the 2060-12GB is currently selling for more than a 12GB-3060 then you might as well go for the 3060-12GB. The cheapest 3060-12GB on eBay is around 220 where as the cheapest 2060 12G is around 254,. I assume the only reason is that it is much harder to find card. Only really worth buying one if it can be had for 170-180 or under in my opinion
@sovo1212
@sovo1212 Жыл бұрын
@@LC-ig5hp that's pretty interesting, I just checked local prices, and while the 3060 12gb isn't cheaper, it's about the same price than the 2060 12gb. And yes, it's also more ubiquitous, so your scarcity theory must be right. BTW, I don't get why the difference in performance is so small, the 3060 should be a lot better given the core config. Bandwidth is similar to the 2060, but I don't think it's a limiting factor, I don't know what I'm missing here.

@@sovo1212Yes that was based off eBay listenings here in the UK. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the 2060 12gb was less limited/cutdown than the other cards but the generation on generation performance is almost none existent especially when compared to the 3070, 3080 where the higher uplift in performance is substantial compared to 2070, 2080 cards.
@LC-ig5hp
@LC-ig5hp Жыл бұрын
@@sovo1212 I found some information below which explains why the 12gb is faster.....Having the same CUDA core count as the RTX 2060 SUPER means the RTX 2060 12 GB has more RT cores (34 vs. 30) and Tensor cores (272 vs. 240) than the original RTX 2060. Interestingly, the card's typical board power is higher, at 185 W, as opposed to 175 W with the RTX 2060 SUPER. This probably has to do with the double-density memory chips, or NVIDIA simply giving it more boosting headroom. The maximum boost frequency is set at 1650 MHz, which is the same as the RTX 2060 SUPER.

I was looking for a new graphics card when the 20 series was the top tier, but my budget was my limiting factor, so I was indeed looking at a 2060 or a 1660 super. At that time, I think the 1660 super made more sense. It was quite a bit cheaper and performance was really not much worse. The extra features of the 2060 such as DLSS and raytracing weren't really a thing yet back then, so I can imagine that that's why a lot of people that were in a situation comparable to mine said to get a 1660 instead. That being said, it indeed does not perform poorly at all, but I still think that of my 1660 super too, so perhaps I am not the right person to ask 😆

The problem is that these games that need more than 8gb of vram are all new games. And I believe the number of new AAA games that do not need more than 8gb of vram to run are even fewer than those that do.

@@mingyi456 You can count on one or maybe two hands how many games actually need more then 8 GB of Vram to run. Yes more and more games will start to need more then 8 Gb but it will take years til even 50% require that. Do you thing game devs want to eliminate a HUGE portion of their game sales by requiring so much Vram just to plat the game?
@mingyi456
@mingyi456 Жыл бұрын
@@johntotten4872 There is such a huge backlog of old pc games that it will take many years for games that require more than 8gb of vram to make up a significant proportion of all pc games. But it is stupid to benchmark a gpu based on old games, especially considering that gpu prices have been increasing way faster than inflation can account for. Of course a 3060ti or 4060ti can play all games released in 2018 and earlier, but would you spend a highly nontrivial amount of money on a brand new gpu just to play old games? Of course your goal of buying that 8gb gpu is to play modern games, but many recent games are starting to overwhelm the 8gb buffer even at 1080p. Game devs risk alienating the vast population of 8gb gpu owners by releasing games that require more than 8gb, but 8gb has been the norm for very long already. They have been warning people for quite some time that this has been limiting them, and they need to move forward at some point. At this point, their only options besides simply using more than 8gb of vram are to : 1) Make their new game the same way as older games are made, without making use of new technologies made available by newer game engines. This will result in a game that does not look significantly better than an older game, and gamers will complain about this anyway. 2) Spend a disproportionate amount of time on optimisation to fit within the 8gb buffer, which leads to long delays (and the game studio needs to release the game at some point, or else they cannot afford to keep paying their devs without the revenue). Delay too long and a game originally meant to release in 2023 with breathtaking visuals for a 2023 game might end up releasing in 2025 instead, and end up looking much more mundane compared to other 2025 games. Basically, gamers want to play games with better visuals, and game devs want to make games with better visuals, but 8gb of vram has been limiting the devs for years, and the optimisation work required to fit better and better looking games into a 8gb buffer is getting more and more time consuming, to the point it is going to become unviable soon.

So I got the 2060 in October 2022 for my first ever pc build. I researched a lot and got a twin fan zotac amp 2060 OC. Literally no game has given me trouble, even when people reported problems for hogwarts Legacy, besides Hogwarts itself, the open world gave me 60+ fps on high. DLSS 2.0 is a joy. Every game till 2023 is amazing. I'm a 1080p gamer so yeah, I'm set for a while.😊

I got the 2060 super 8gb version, and have to say it very rarely struggles plays most games at high relatively easy, looking at the specs its near enough a 2070 in performance. Definitely a decent card if you can get it second hand, if your gonna buy new you may want something which will have more longevity, but thus would still last a couple more years easy

I had an RTX 2060 12G, which is some kind of hybrid between RTX 2060 and RTX 2060Super with more RAM. It also works in 1440p quite well, even though you might want to use DLSS to get some extra FPS.

Rtx 20 series cards are still really good. I had rtx 2060 a few months ago and it can still run games at 1440p60 with reasonable settings. DLSS and FSR2 pretty much made this gpu one of the best budget cards. 6gb vram is enough for rtx 2060 since you will probably be bottlenecked by the actual speed of the card and not the vram limitation. It is crazy how in 4 years we only went from 6 to 8gb of slower vram. I hope fsr3 frame generation will be good and rtx 2060 will still be able to play games at high settings even after 4 years.

I upgraded one of my older machines, after GPU prices came back down to normal levels, with a 2060 Super. I had been running a GTX 1080 in it. I passed over the 6gb 2060, because of it's lower amount of VRAM and narrower memory bus. If anyone is considering a 3050, or an 8gb 3060, I'd pass those over, and get a 2060 Super, or 2070 non-Super, instead. You'll get better performance, for less money. Any RTX 20 card, with the exception of the 6gb 2060, would make a decent upgrade for the money, if you're still using something older. Any RTX 30 card, excluding the 3050, and 8gb 3060, would also be good options. The 128 bit memory bus on those cards, really holds them back from achieving their full potential.

The thing is that the 2060 and the 2060 Super are good 1080p cards. It's just that people want to play things directly with out of the box settings. Well I've got news for them, you need to modify and tweak settings. If we are to judge games by the latest releases none of them are optimized, they come out full of bugs and you need to learn to adapt.
