All I can say is, that if you have a purple nut you should go see your Doctor. Seriously though - the ageing job on this is superb. Not over the top with massive checking or wear down to bare wood. The subtle shadows where the poker chip and pickguard would protect the paint are a genius touch.

Actually Jimmy was alrready quite famous amongst London musos before the Yardbirds. He actually turned them down initially after Clapton quit. It was Jimmy who got Jeff his first start in the Yardbirds, Jeff gave him the Tele as a thank you. Jimmy only joined when the bass player walked out mid gig.

Just saw the Jeff Beck collection up for auction on Christie's. Is this the same Yardburst as the one up for auction there? If it is, the top has been stripped down to natural, black humbuckers, cream pickguard, and the most interesting mod: the headstock says "The Gibson" with a flowerpot inlay.

I have one of the white painted over series guitars and the pink of the case had imprinted on the back of the neck where it supports the neck. Was like that when i bought it.

Trogly I agree I'm not into the aged look only if they are naturally aged and played the hell out of it. You know, lots of love to the finish! I actually like it without the pick guard you see more of the beautiful finish on these bad boys and ya 10.000 is pushing it. You could save the extra on the Murphy lab by just playing the hell out of it, of course with a couple of cocktails while your at it. That's always good for a few dings and dents in your finish. Great show thanx Trogly.

Maybe it's because the name associated with this Les Paul but for once I do like this aged guitar. But hearing it looking at it it's got the looks and style that do catch my eyes. I really like the looks of most flamed and quilt tops but I'm the kind of person that likes some things just because it's different.

This was the Les Paul that Rick Nielsen sold Jeff Beck in 68 I believe. He says that he sold Jeff a Les Paul Standard with the white coils. It's a 59 or 60,and the finish is more aligned with the 60's finished.

From my memory, the guitar Rick sold was the other sunburst Jeff played in the early years of the Jeff Beck Group. That was a very flamed maple top with a zebra neck pup and double black bridge. There are photos online of that one

Don't know about Steve Gaines but there's definitely a Collins Explorer (not sure about a Firebird though?). They did a 'cheeky' replica of his Explorer on another occasion too (pretty much identical specs to his but not an official signature model, probably so they didn't have to pay him lol)

Gibson ran out of black bobbins for the 1959/60 Les Paul pickups so they started using crème colored bobbins. Gibson was using double crème bobbins long before Dimarzio.

If you need to pry the Medaillon out do it in the screwholes of the plate, then you dont damage the wood sorrounding

I unscrew the switch nut and push the plate out using the switch. If the control cavity cover is sticking I unscrew the output jack plate and reach in to push it out.. those suction cup thingies didn't work for me

When everyone ran out of "Gibson" Les Paul hardshell cases some time ago. I ordered, and then canceled a Lufton case from M.F. My reason? I couldn't get past the pink interior. Now I have 2 reasons. Damn.

Gibson has double white 57 Classics and the 1959 Collector’s pickups. Both have been around for months before this guitar was even announced. I doubt this was the guitar/pickups the lawsuit was over.

Loved the look of this Gibson when it was first announced. Love plain tops. Sounds fantastic. Maybe I will change my cream pickguard to black on my 2020 Classic in Heritage cherry. I could always change it back.

Although Gibson indicated the type of magnets used in their Custop Shop 59 LPs (alnico 3, alnico 5…), there is no mention of the magnet material for the Yardburts pickups. I also like those pickups a lot so maybe they used something different than my other R9s?

I have a 2024 R8 and I had to carefully use a screwdriver in the screw hole to get it to come free (I wanted the original look of the black plate) Also, bobbin colour would do nothing to the tone lol

OK so I guess I'll be the one to say it... Heart Full of Soul is not a Beck era Yardbirds song.... It's a Clapton era Yardbirds song. Over Under Sideways Down, or Train Kept a Rollin, would have been more appropriate song choices. Cool guitar, and great playing Trog!

You are correct. It’s a foray out of the blues written by Graham Gouldman that led Clapton to leave the band paving the way for Beck.
