From what I can tell based on your comparison they are using a much thicker finish on the leather of their newer version which is often a sign of trying to cover up the imperfections of lower quality leather.. It's so sad how quality standards are slipping with luxury brands. I swear there's a handbook out there that says, "People pay the money for the name, not the quality, so costs related to creating a quality piece can be cut out." It's sad that a person can no longer expect to get good quality when paying such a high price. How do they still get away with it? The cool thing is that my desire to buy things has gone way down, because it hurts me to part money for junk quality things.

As someone who has been dealing in counterfeit goods for more than a decade, I can tell you responsibly that counterfeit goods have reached the point where you can’t even tell the difference between the real thing and the fake. first polene now sezane, I think it's a sign to not go for trending 'mid-range' bag, the quality might drop, the brand might lose its appeal extremely quickly, and at the end of the day it's still a pricey bag as it's around a month worth of groceries in price. Buy quality and what you love, not the name/trend

Small, independently owned ‘mid-range’ brands are the way to go! Polene and Sézane both have external investment and unfortunately, shareholders want to maximise profits and minimise costs.

BUT, It’s not that necessarily people “care” about people having *hotdups* , it’s the fact that people that have money to buy into luxury and invest it’s for a reason. I fell in love with Sezane in 2018 and that was back when the sheer volume of styles on the site was less, they only dropped new collections maybe around once a month. I used to set an alarm for like, 4 in the morning here in Canada to shop pieces when they dropped because they would sell so fast! I still have many pieces- particularly knitwear- from that time. The quality has SIGNIFICANTLY gone downhill, not that it's horrible but what hurts is the prices have gone up! I bought my first Gaspard cardigan in 2018 for $130 CAD, it is now $170 CAD. Mind you, duties are included now and they weren't back then. But the quality of that sweater has definitely changed, the buttons are not reinforced as well, they use different buttons altogether, and the biggest difference is the cut of their pieces!! Sezane used to be my absolute favourite because the cuts of their clothing- especially big cozy chunky sweaters- were incredibly flattering. They felt handmade, and they sort of draped and hung on the body really well. Now it seems everything they produce is quite generic and boxy. If you can find Sezane secondhand I think that's best, I would say look for pieces from 2019-2021, personally I think that was when the brand was at its best.

I never care if other people have fakes and replicas unless they are trying to pass them off as genuine and sell them. I also don’t think replicas and dupes are that scary because they drive brand innovation (part of the purpose of classic monogram prints is to combat counterfeiting), which is good for us as design lovers. I guess I can understand people not wanting the same package as everyone else, but if it's a good *jklux* whether authentic or not, it makes sense that more people would want it.

Thank you for letting us know. I bought the Claude bag in Spring this year and it was made in Portugal. I remember that the Milo Bag was also made in Portugal because I looked at both which one I would like to buy. So obviously Sezane changed the production, now the bags are made in Italy.

I took a class on fashion and the law a couple of years ago and one of the topics we learned about was sweat shop labor in Italy. Obviously this is an issue all over but Italy has cache as a fashion hub so when people see “made in Italy” they may assume quality and craftsmanship when the reality in some cases is just old fashioned exploitation of migrant workers.

I agree. They used to have quite a distinctive aesthetic, very feminine and not very trend-led, especially as a few years ago that 'Scandinavian minimalism' was very much the main trend. Nowadays it's a complete mish-mash of all different styles and lots of trendy pieces that will feel outdated in a couple of years (in my opinion). They've lost their way and lost what made them unique in a lot of ways

Wow, Katie the 2024 bag almost looks like it's coated! I probably saw the bag in store after it changed, because I remember thinking "this isn't the right price for this quality"; that's why I never bothered ordering a bag from them. Same goes for the shoes, it's a hit and miss. Seems like some of their leather suppliers have very different production standards, which don't reflect the price being always the same. Sometimes what happens with frequently OOS items, is that companies try to find alternative suppliers that make the same item (or rather, close to same) without the consumers realizing because the first supplier isn't able to produce higher quantities. More often than not, this is the case when the company (in this case Sézane) has grown exponentially over the last 2-3 years, and the same suppliers they had before cannot keep up with the new demanded quantities. Thank you for this video, it's great you let us all know.
@LydialousАй бұрын
Thank you for your honesty! So refreshing to see a video like this. Most people would not repurchase the same bag a year later and be able to do a comparison, especially a more expensive bag, so these companies have been able to get away with decreasing quality for new purchases for unsuspecting customers. Quite sad but happy to have the awareness :(

It’s likely the bag has more “coating” or treatment than the original. Watch Tanner Leatherstein and he talks about the finish applied to bags. I imagine more treatment or finish protects the leather underneath but makes it feel more plasticky. It’s highly possible Sezane switched factories to a factory that can keep up with more demand. Thank you for sharing. I chose the Claude in Patent Croc because I wanted something that wouldn’t be so delicate. For anyone interested the Netflix documentary “Buy Now” Is eye opening!

Thank you so much for this comparison! Unfortunately I'd be surprised if Sézane gave you a straightforward answer... I've been looking at their comment sections on Instagram for months, and the only questions they reply to are the ones regarding items that they plan on restocking. They're always vague or straight up ignore comments that ask them about their brand's transparency regarding production, or when someone confronts them about only using size 36 or pregnant models as you once pointed out... I feel like they believe it makes them more mysterious, but it just seems dishonest and frustrating.

Agreed, there have been some changes. I had ordered the black version and that was smooth black in Jun'24 - it was made of smooth goat leather and the care instructions said you have to maintain it using a leather balm. Now, the color is different - its glossy black and similar to the burgundy one. The older version is no longer available I guess but the pictures are the same as the old one.

Thank you for raising that issue ! I am a long-time Sezane customer, and I have been sending several items back for quality reasons since the release of the 2024/2025 autumn/winter collection. Because of the design of the products for a lot of them : - Ballerines Low Ninon : because the strap is way too thin and will likely break quite quickly and I love reliable shoes - Chemise Chlo : Dentelle Bleu Vintage : this was a heartbreak because the lace was lovely and I loved the color, but the coton of the shirt was so thin that I was afraid it would break during the first wash (really not kidding at all, I whish...) For others, for quality-control reasons, which should not happen when prices start at 100 euros : - Chemise Chlo : Ecru Broderie Petites Fleurs : the endings of the flowers were poorly finished - Pull Armelle : the stitching of the decorating thread (which is why this model is interesting in the first place) was missing in some places - I loved it so much that I ordered another and it was fine - the overall quality of this piece is good And let's not talk about pieces with unnecessary synthetic fibers billed the same price as pieces made of natural fibers and the fact that I cannot keep up with their releases anymore ! Last time I checked their website, I saw in the "last chance" category items I'd never seen before

I found that Claude in burgundy was exactly as you describe burgundy Milo. Felt so plasticky and remember even telling my husband ”this is ugly and I would never pay money for such quality”. The taupe version of these bags however was beautiful, exactly like the black I own. But what surprised me the most and really caught my whole attention was Vintage Claude in multi taupe. My husband was first to point it out as I would have never looked at it myself. I found it so beautiful in person and the leather felt so nice. Just not sure how to pair it and if it would go with many colors, otherwise would buy it without thinking:)

@katie_louiseАй бұрын
Songmont use full-grain leather (the highest quality form of leather) whereas Sézane dont specify what kind of leather but it seems the new version with its textureless feel is bonded leather (the lowest quality). Personally, I know what I prefer 😊

Both my Songmont bags are clearly real leather, both in feel and smell! I watched a Tanner Leatherstein video and it seems the quality of their bags varies amongst styles. I'm honored to be subscribed to your channel especially after this video. I really mean it. As you previously mentioned wanting to giveaway a Parisian brand bag I'd say Fleuron is my favorite, especially after seeing you unbox your Hortensia. That bag is BEAUTIFUL and a box style as well. The fact they offer both pebbled and smooth leather as well as an array of colors makes me swoon. So I'd honestly pick Fleuron for the giveaway. 100%! Also Ateliers Auguste looks like a solid choice. All the reviews I've watched praise it greatly though I'd be a bit cautious since most of the styles only come in smooth leather. I personally feel a bit bummed when I notice a new scratch on a bag and smooth leather seem to just scream at us we've been a bit careless with our bags 😅 I'm curious about Songmont as well. However I've watched a video of a guy here on KZbin that takes bags apart (Tanner Leatherstein, I think it was) and the quality within Songmont seems hit and miss among the styles offered so I'd be nervous to try the brand blindly. Very looking forward to your review of the Drippy next! Wishing you and your subbies Happy Holidays!

Had a similar experience with a Kurt Geiger bag.. had bought one in the US in 2022 but in 2023 the chain colour (black) started coming off and I returned the bag and got an exchange without problems… but the bag I got back was not at all the same soft lambskin leather, but had a very plasticy feel, was not subtle and soft, and just felt cheap… when I wrote to them an enquired if they had changed production site or leather providers, they stated that they had not and there were no changes in production. It felt like an outlet version of a bag, which they also said it was not. I returned the bag and got a full refund. Later I found a version second hand and am happy to say that this version had the soft wonderful leather, so I am happy again. But not buying any new bagd from the brand before their quality goes back up.

I bought this bag about 6 months ago, in the same colour, and although it is pretty, I was disappointed in the quality. It feels like plastic, not leather, definitely like the new bag you have in this video. It also squeaks when you wear it. I have not been using it as much as I thought I would.
@katie_louiseАй бұрын
Awh I’m so sorry to hear that 😢 I guess they changed it a while ago then. Really sneaky considering the pictures on the website didn’t change

Hi Katie, I ordered the milo vintage bag this May. It was my first Sézane bag so I couldn’t compare but the quality seemed fine. However, last month I noticed the metal buttons to adjust the strap had fallen off! And I have been very gentle with the bag. After watching your video I checked my bag and it as 4 stitches.. not sure if it was 3 before. I will contact sezane because for this price I expect better quality. BTW as for the giveaway, you are the best, I would love the one with the pretty gold flower closure button or a bembien bag.

That's terrible and definitely not acceptable! Hopefully they offer some kind of compensation, their customer service is usually okay in my experience. Fingers crossed :)

I bought the Lucas sweater when it first came out and then bought it again in a different size, same color, a year later. They definitely changed the buttons and the way they were sewn in. The new buttons feel and look cheaper and don’t feel secure.

oh no :( that's such a shame

Thank you for your review! It is very disappointing how the quality declines across the fashion industry! Bad, so bad 😢

I love your reviews about the quality. I took about three years off from buying Sezane and have also noticed a change in quality. You don't like the Gaspard but I noticed a newer Gaspard is scratchier than my older Gaspard. I thought at first it had been washed and returned. Higher prices for decreasing quality is scaring away all of us who have been with the brand for years.

Your channel is really helpful! Thank you for talking about the changes you noticed in some of the Sézane items. The other bags you showed are all very pretty. My personal favourite is the first alternative you have shown. Actually I like its looks even more than the Sézane bag.

I watched this video on my tv and the differences were very obvious. The new version of the Milo looked rubbery even before you poked it. Good to know about the change in quality. This bag is $680 + 13% tax in my country, which is ridiculous.

In my 20s I wore SO much makeup and spent SO much money on makeup. If I went out in public without it I was so self conscious and through I was hideous. In my 30s (also post pandemic and getting in better shape) I don’t wear makeup that much and when I do it’s pretty natural. I feel so much more confident, and it also saves me SO much money and time. If I’m going to wear makeup it takes less than 10 minutes to apply

It’s probably cheaper production now. But I would like to add, that I have a claude from 2023 and it is so sensitive to scratches. Perhaps they updated the leather to be more durable and need less maintenance, which isn’t necessarily a n Bad thing. I bought the milo this year in taupe and also noticed a difference to my earlier claude. Either way, is still a beautiful bag - even the new version.

It really saddens me! Same happened with the clothes quality. I do double check on everything right now from Sezane =\ Thank you for your honest review, it is really appreciated!

aw this having waited for ages for the same bag to come back into stock and was really excited when it did and thought I'd treat myself to it , it arrived today- having seen your post when already anxious- arrived today , beautifully packaged and waited all day to unpack it - you are absolutely right , it looks and feels so cheap. Massively disappointed and already have sealed the box ready to return tomorrow .

Unfortunately I'm only slightly surprised... I have three Sézane bags (and more than half of my wardrobe is Sézane, so not a hater!) but I've given up on the bags a while ago and I'm super selective regarding all else these days... Like you, I'm gutted because I really wanted the brand to stay true to its (original) values. I'm partial to the fauvette, especially the Rosie one 😍

Hi ! Was there a time when LV Mono Vernis Perle Read PM Monogram.does not have a date code? My aunt and I were trying to authenticate an old Vernis white bag. The bag size, the monogram design is on point. even the stitches ,the color of the thread, the color of the inner lining. the lock,the hardware,the stamp,the zipper even the LV near the handle does not overlap.The only thing we noticed is that there was no date code. Accdg to my aunt that bag was given t her by her aunt in 2009 .But that *jklux* was gifted to her aunt in 1998. There is only a slight discoloration but it looks fantastic.

Its a different one, on the the french website they call it “ bordeaux glacé” and they have it also in “ noir glacé” “ glacé in french means icy, shiny “ ❤❤
@katie_louiseАй бұрын
Yep it was called that a year ago when I ordered my original one! I know it’s different to the smooth leather. I’m specifically comparing the two ‘glossy’ leathers and they are different

Oo really ! Thats too bad i like yours very much , i have the milo in black from 2 years ago, my sister wants to buy it in black also, but maybe it ll be like the new bordeaux😢 thank you for your videos, i love your content , very helpful❤❤

Question: do you feel the quality of their knitwear has declined as well or does it seem to have stayed the same?
@katie_louiseАй бұрын
From what I've tried it hasn't necessarily declined, but I avoid it because most of it is that mohair/polyamide/wool blend which I don't love. I still think the cotton and merino wool pieces are great, just few and far between. I tried the yak wool recently and can't say I'm overly impressed, I wish they'd use cashmere instead. Especially at their price point

I ordered the same bag in Oct this year. I tried pressing the leather like how you did in the video. Seems ok, so far im still pretty happy with the quality. (I watched your video multiple times before making the decisions :) )

I’ve been a Sézane gal since 2018. There’s definitely been a reduction in quality over the years so not surprised. I will try Fauvette but I do love Fleuron.

This is a good reminder that any country can produce poor quality materials - even Italy, so long coasting on its reputation for leatherwork - if the retailer has unrealistic demands about speed of turnaround and amount per unit they're prepared to pay. It could be the same factory - but possibly they've been compelled to make more for less. As consumers we have to remember our power and responsibility in all this. We don't have to and shouldn't accept anything Meh quality. We can say, no I'm not keeping this - and like you Katie Louise - let the retailer know why you're just saying no more to all of this garbage.

@SnugosАй бұрын
Have you tried smelling it to see if it's leather?
@katie_louise23 күн бұрын
it doesn't smell of much tbh! I do think its real leather, just coated in something plasticky which is probably why you can't smell the leather.

Can’t wait to hear back from Sezane. I think any of the other bags you mentioned in the video would be great for the giveaway.
@JessBritvecАй бұрын
I know that clothing brands are constantly tweaking and reiterating on their classic or staple items that they bring back over and over. I notice this with denim especially, they are almost never the same from year to year and I've come to think of that as unfortunate, but normal. I usually don't buy the same bag twice, so I guess I never really considered that the same tweaks and iterations were happening with them as well.
@anetagasiowska2858Ай бұрын
I bought this bag a few months ago. and that was my biggest disappointment. the bag looks like something bought in a regular chain store, such as H&M. Unfortunately, I couldn't return it because it was personalized. I confirm that it feels like stiff artificial leather ;/ I have already given up on the Polene bag due to the deterioration of quality.😢

Completely agree - I was so shocked and disappointed! :(

Thank you for this review, I was about to treat myself with the exact same bag (as previously watched your video from 2023 and decided it’s the one since I was considering Claude as well). In my opinion Songmont Luna is really beautiful in person and seems to be of good quality

Thank you for this review! I went to Sezane on Sunday and saw the Milo in person and did not realise the quality drop (but I don't own one). I looked instead at the red tote, I wish they had done it smaller, it's an impossible size for petites, I had a feel of it and was surprised by how plasticky (?) it felt. Too much.
