I love your approach on educating, lots of humour and light hearted. Got me smiling. My WW dwarf is on a huge wheel because for some reason in Canada I can only find very tiny wheels or the giant ones. He does good on it though. Thank you for getting the info out there.

I love how your informational videos never have a “condescending” tone to them (like many other hamster care videos I’ve seen). They are cute, entertaining, and easy to follow! And you’re exactly right! Not even my Robo could safely run in a four inch wheel! The bigger the better with wheels. Especially with Syrians!

@@ToyotaKudoFan I agree with you! I was more talking about a general attitude I’ve seen among commenters and videos then trying to put a specific channel down. I don’t endorse the comment above about Victoria Rachael, just so you know.

Also, to add to that, Victoria Rachael’s videos are really helpful! I particularly love her video called “How to Tame Your Hamster” (I think that’s the name) from a couple years ago, and any videos she does about making bin cages. That girl knows what she is doing. 👍

Our Syrian hamster was from a rescue centre - she took a while to settle in. She mostly used her wheel after we had shut the kitchen door at night (we have a long kitchen diner). She used it a bit when we were around but the real mileage was at night. I think she was just shy. She had a fabulous, spacious cage - and a big wheel - and a very happy life once with us.

My hamsters do that too , it's just because they are most active at night and at dawn , if you're an early bird , like my dad (wakes at 6am ) then you'll be able to see them run.

All my hamsters have 28cm. (I have 4) and two of them are dwarfs. I just like them because I know it's a safe size for all. And my hybrid is actually quite big (because he's a hybrid) so he actually needs bigger than a 21cm. My robo has a 28cm because it helps reduce the chance of being flipped out when they stop or spinning in it like a washing machine.

The smaller wheel costs more on amazon because it's the least sought after item but it also has to be available the one off pet that might need one... they literally take up shelf space somewhere. The bigger ones are more preferred and get sold quicker.

Years ago I gave my large Syrian hamster a choice of wheels thinking solid plastic would be preferable to wire. But he ended up running on the giant wire mesh rat wheel all the time. This was in the late 90s before internet shopping really took off. I'd be interested to repeat the experiment with a larger selection.
@shulin2712 жыл бұрын
Maybe because he has more traction with the mesh than the solid plastic , I prefer the solid plastic tho because everyone on the net suggest against the mesh 😅 and solid plastic is easier to clean
@ZadenZane2 жыл бұрын
@@shulin271 I'm trying to remember how big the wheel was, somewhere around 12" and he lived in a cracked fishtank about 18" deep. Which meant when he managed to stop up the wheel with woodshavings, he could escape quite easily just by climbing up it!! Which he was expert at. BTW, apart from wheels which can be way too small I'd say the biggest health risk for hamsters would be the sawdust and woodshavings pet owners were for some weird reason encouraged to fill hamsters' cages with. I had to switch from sawdust to woodshavings because the dusty stuff made him ridiculously itchy and yes it was cute watching him do this shudder thing for about half an hour, until I realised it was caused by horrible obnoxious powdered wood in his fur, then I took it straight out. When I kept dwarf hamsters in the 2000s I got rid of all wood products and just used newspaper sheets which they nibbled up themselves to make their own bedding. Their fur was in way better condition after I made that change. I also tried cat litter but it wasn't ideal (wasn't bad for the hamsters either, it just was hard to clean out properly). I know nowadays there's special non-itchy wood pellet things. When I get a hamster again I'm going to try that. I can't believe I ever thought it was a good idea to keep a hamster living neck-deep in in wood shavings!
@shulin2712 жыл бұрын
@@ZadenZane I see , u should cover your tank with a mesh , cus mine used to always escape (lucky me he's kind of dumb and would come when I call him ). Definitely not use sawdust , it's so horribly dusty and I wouldn't want to inhale it all day so does your hamster. I use wood chips from chipsy , it's cheaper and comes in 60L packs but it's not something my hamsters love to sleep on ,so I supplement it with some hay and tissues which they love.
@rowdyrats70352 жыл бұрын
@@ZadenZane Hamsters actually need a deep bedding to burrow, so pellets are a terrible idea to use with them. They can't burrow in pellets at all. Hamsters should have 8+ inches of bedding to burrow. Some safe beddings are aspen, spruce, hemp and paper. I recommend Victoria Raechel's channel, she has amazing hamster care videos. 🙂
