Congrats on the tracker. Having used my Track-Ir3 for years now, flying in pancakemode is not the same without. But definetly still use views and disable ti when punching on the FMC etc. TiR does have less drift and is more presise so using it on buttons is easier from what i understand. The only drawback to head tracking is that low FPS is a LOT more noticable, so for those with lesser systems (like me) if this looks nice, you really want to have at least 30fps, at anything lower you may enjoy disabling it like when in a very heavy zone with big airports nearby etc.

I love the flexibility of use. It's great for those dynamic phases where you want to look out the window and then you can temporarily turn it off for button punching etc.

I realize the focus of your video is Tobii but I am very surprised that you never seem to have given TrackIR a try. I've used it for some 15 years and together with joining SATCO in 2000 was the biggest revolution in my flight simming career. Track IR becomes very natural to use and it is absolutely no problem using it when setting up the airplane, eg looking at the overhead panel. Then during flight I usually switch it off or reduce the sensitivity with the press of a button. When I use eg racing games on my computer I always instinctively turn my head as I if I had TrackIR on me. The nuisance with Track IR is that you have to have reflectors on your head so the Track IR camera can pick up your movements but it is totally worth it!
@planely12632 жыл бұрын
Best of both worlds: Take the Tobii ET5 as input device to your IR tracking software. It works perfectly with FaceTrackNoIR, e.g. The Tobii works more precisely and more consistently, and is more comfortable than any other head tracking setup I've ever tried. Pros: More supported games / sims., more flexible setup options, works in all views, easy to pause and unpause (tracking) for fiddling wirh knobs in the airplane.
@flightdeck2sim2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input! I have of course heard of Track IR but I like the convenience of not having to wear things on your head and impressed by how the Tobii works. FD2S
@bruceyboy73492 жыл бұрын
I also use Track IR and don't like flying without it but the advantage of not having to wear anything is a bonus. Regarding getting used to "moving your eyes" I found that, with Track IR, I got used to it very quickly and it isn't really "moving your eyes in the opposite direction you move your head". It's more "relaxing your eyes and leaving them where they are when you move your head" (I.e. leaving them on the screen). One of the things I like doing in XPlane is playing a flight back but viewing it from a passenger seat near the engine. Then I look out the window, look back at the engine, look down at the ground as the plane comes in to land. I even stand up and look across all the other seats. It's quite immersive.
@kittealand2 жыл бұрын
@@bruceyboy7349 For me it's not so much wearing something but the cable. But then again I have the TrackClip Pro attached to my Dave Clark headset that is also wired so it really doesn't matter that much... Some tout a VR headset as the ultimate solution and while I can imagine the immersion is insane, I can't imagine it is always the most practical solution.
@bruceyboy73492 жыл бұрын
@@kittealand Cable? The only wiring I have is from the PC to the "camera" unit on top of my monitor. I don't own the Pro version so I clip mine to a tennis visor cap (i.e. headband with visor peak). I don't use a baseball cap because I overheat at the best of times - wearing a hat while sat next to a PC running a flightsim is just too hot for me. I'm bald so my head looks like the top of an egg poking through the head band. 🤣 My daughter has a VR headset so I've used it. It's not bad but it's not high enough resolution (it needs to be 4k in each eye and this is 2k), it's Extremely cumbersome, heavy and awkward (and unbearably hot). The immersion is lost by all of the fiddling around trying to get controls to work. Despite all of the people saying VR is amazing, I used it a few times but Track IR is waaaaayyyy better. I have a touch screen setup for the flight panel together with a yoke, throttle quandrant, pedals and a physical knob which I can use for all of the individual knobs (touch screen to select, then physical knob to adjust). Oh and I also have an Android tablet which runs software for the CDU. It's not as good as a proper physical cockpit setup but it's a damn sight cheaper and works really well. I think if I could get a headset without cables that did 4k in each eye it would look great for flight replay but I still don't think I would want to use it for actual flying. I await a suitable augmented reality solution. Until then Track IR or similar all the way!

Nice and useful videi👍🏻 Question: I'm trying a Quest 2 VR headset, which I like very much and it makes me dream, but I'm still very unhappy for the graphic quality (despite of my gaming pc specs, surely more than high) with headache, nausea, etc; but the real plus is that if i look at my down right - thus moving my head - I still have in front of me on the headset what I should see (example: radio panel); with Toby what happens? How can I get it if I move my head say to the right and I necessarily have to watch the monitor? Looks a very interesting nice-to-have, but I would like not to replace the headache with a stiff neck 😀

What are the benefits of this compared with FaceTrackNoIR (which cost me €3.45 a couple of years ago)? I'm sure the Tobii Eye Tracker offers more but, apart from maybe being somewhat smoother and tracking eye as well as head movement, I can't see exactly what - and I think eye tracking might get annoying when looking away from my monitor to use the switches and dials on my Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo, Stream Deck and X-Touch Mini. what I don't get about all eye trackers (not just this system) is, you're not in a 360 degree environment. how do you actually see what you're looking at when you're looking full left or right? You mention you have to twist your eyes but that seems rather uncomfortable and not very immersive. Are there ways around this or is just the nature of the beast at this juncture in technology right now?

Do you guys recommend the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 or the TrackIR solution?
@planely12632 жыл бұрын
Both do more of less the exact same thing. But while the TrackIR solution is a little cheaper, you always have to wear some form of head gear (reflector cap or IR-LED array), and the system is very sensitive toward the lighting situation, as sunlight reflections in the background will result in erroneous readings and will thus stop the tracking. The Tobii is very insensitive to the lighting environment, and you don't wear anything. This alone makes me appreciate the Tobii so much more. I have switched to the Tobii ET5 from a DIY IR-tracking solution, and I would never go back.

That really depends on how long your flights are? Are you happy having a headset obstructing all your senses for hours on end? Who answers the front door? The phone? The misses? Okay that last one has its advantages lol. Its okay if you have set aside an hour with no interruptions. Now if you're talking iRacing etc, I 100% agree with you. Less buttons to press, less interaction needed, and races are usually shorter. I always use VR for iRacing. Mind blowing.

Sorry, but I beg to differ: I have used several IR tracking setups, and the Tobii ET5 as an input device for a tracking software (FtNoIR) has been the best experience of all so far. No more silly head gear to wear, no more loss of tracking as soon as the smallest ray of sunlight falls on the background - actually, no ambient lighting requirements or limitations at all. Also, I have had no real problems with the HC yoke installed, though you might have to make some adjustments. And - to me - it appeared even more precise...
