I got a TrackIR for DCS one year ago. I like it very much, but for civil flight sims I like the mouse control a lot more

I think when not using VR a head or eye tracker is a must have in MSFS! It's a so much better experience. Now I personally use TrackIR, but thought about buying Tobii because you don't need anything additional attached to your head. Now it would be great to have a comparison - maybe you'll get TrackIR to sponsor a review too :)

I use my webcam + OpenTrack (which is free of charge) for this - anyway it's always a bit strange for me to move my head while starring at the screen with my eyes. I think nothing really can beat VR here besides a full 6DOF rig. However first I need a proper computer to run such a VR setup, but it's is planned so the Tobii would be just some waste of money for me right now.

Thanks for review! Would you also test it in VFR with a G1000/3000 panel? How does the the mouse movement/precission work?I think the mouse should not move with head movmement like in VR, but it does. Is it a problem?

If I change my sensitivity settings the sim asks me to save a new profile. but then the eye tracker doesn't work anymore. Where is my fault? If I switch back to the default profile it works again.

I have been using TrackIR for many years, I love it. Other than not having to wear a hat or a headset, I don't understand the benefit of the eye tracker. I get that it tracks your head movements, and it looks as though it does a great job. But what's the deal with the actual eye tracking? How do you benefit from it? Can you map a button so when you look at something (gear lever, switch, button etc..) you can interact with it while looking at it, like you would with a mouse pointer and left/right click?

Thanks for your insight. Funny thing, I was already planning on purchasing a tobii eye tracker today before I saw this video. I currently use trackir but it can be a little finicky when I'm in msfs 2020. So, I've decided to give the tobii eye tracker a go. Thanks again for the video.

I'm a TrackIR user since the very first model back in the day. I have thrown my old TIR 5 away, which didn't really work anymore. I got the eye tracker then. Never looked back! BTW I leave the eye tracking on a very low level of like 5-10%. This helps me with fine control and focusing on a spot.

I have the Tobii 5 also since about 4 weeks. In the beginning it takes some time getting used to it. I also switched of the eye tracking, use only headtracking otherwise you can't turn a switch, very nervous on screen. Also during CDU programming off, also during cruise mostly off. But indeed a very nice add-on.

Thanks for this. I have an older version of the Tobii Eye Tracker. I had thought about getting the 5, but wasn't sure how well it actually worked with MSFS. Seeing this answers most of my questions. I may have to get one.

Thanks to this video just picked this up, I used your link don't know if you get anything from it. This was the next step for me. I used to have track IR but I hated having to wear something all the time so I switched to notrackir with a logitech camera. This worked well for driving and truck sims where I only had to look left and right but constantly had to be reset, but it was worth the tradeoff for not having to wear anything. However for flight sims where you had to look down and up it was horrible. VR is great but similar to trackir I hate wearing things on my head (even headphones). Im hoping this is the natural next step, my only grievance is that it has to stick to one monitor so I can't use it on my racing rig but the old logitech method will do for that. On a side note thanks for the content, I found this channel a few weeks back and its a daily watch for me now! As a somewhat large youtuber myself I can tell you put in the effort and are well on your way to 100k!

I absolutely love my Tobii Eye Tracker 5. It's also great in DCS.. For MSFS I turned off the eye tracking portion and only use head tracking and slowed it down so it doesn't jerk around so much. If I want to look at the FMC i pause it and use a presaved window

Thanks for sharing your settings. I own a Tobii 5 since 2 weeks now, and I still don't know if I like it in MSFS. During taxi its awesome, during flight for looking around too. In the fixed camera positions you can't move normally you can with your eye tracker, thats pretty cool. But its sometimes too sensitive in my opinion, when you look to your instruments, I dont want the whole "head" to move. After that is takes too long to go back to center or looking trough window. I'm thinking shutting down the eye tracking and only use the head tracking might work. First gonna try your settings. Thanks for this video. And I love the Tobii in all other games I use it with, just not sure for MSFS, as sometimes looking with the mouse is more efficient.

The Tobii is awesome. I personally use it without eye tracking, but its awesome and has worked flawlessly for several months now.
