What a refreshing review. So good to see it being done in real time by a newbie to the device. Gives a real sense of what it’s like to take delivery and use the product rather than having a demo by somebody who’s had one for days or weeks to learn and tweak things to make it look as good as possible. Great work 👍

Thanks dude. That was my intention for sure. For me personally how good a product sounds as it is, rather then being sweetened by other external gear and know how is something overlooked by alot of the channels.

The perceived gain differences you are hearing is only the cab / speaker difference. The Opus isn't creating more gain.The speakers in the cabinet that you are used to EQs the gain in a way that gives you the impression that less gain is being produced by the amp. Experiment with different cab/mic/EQ settings in the Opus and you will be able to dial in a sound that sounds closer to the cab you are used to. The cab is the most important component in the signal chain when it comes to EQ. Two different cabs with an amp with the same settings can sound like two completely different amps.

When i listened back it was abit more clear to me that was happening haha. In real time i was convinced it was more gain coming from somewhere

I hope you enjoy the Opus. I’ll be getting mine next week. I have the CAB M+ and it stopped me from looking at other modeling units. I use it for recording and the sound is amazing. That and the flexibility with mics and placement placed it above everything else. And wait till you check out the Two Notes store. Being able to demo every cab they have is sweet. I also have a few York Audio and Ownhammer IRs and the sound great in the CAB M+ too.

Thats where im at atm since the video, bout to start checking out some external IRs. Ive made a few presets i think sound pretty good, but there a little narrow if that makes sense. Feel very mono… not that wider sound you get with plugins say. Any ideas?
@Tmidiman
@Tmidiman 11 ай бұрын
@@Paul-D I wonder if the plugins are stereo or adding an effect to widen the sound. The Opus should sound just like a great sounding mic’d amp.

Good review! Does the AUX IN sound in stereo on the Headphone Out, or is it downmixed to mono?

got mine in yesterday. Didn't really dive into the editor very much (I did hook it up though and play around some), but even the "stock" presets sound pretty good IMO. I can only imagine how much you can do diving in to the editor.

Are you interested in the amp model side of it, or mainly as a mic and cab emulated line out box?
@RossDaviesTwoNotes
@RossDaviesTwoNotes 11 ай бұрын
Hi Pauly, Ross from Two notes here! Thanks for the first impressions here! Some of the gain differences you may be noticing are likely due to the DynIR Engine - our DynIRs are captured from real world cabs using the actual microphones listed in the related list and there my be some volume differences between these. We would suggest diving into the Mic channels and adjusting accordingly to taste. Depending on the Guitars that are used some presets may sounds a little bright - in this instance we suggest turning down the associated control on the enhancer or using the EQ. if you - or anyone on this thread - has any questions, I am here to help! :)

Hi dude, this really was a straight out the box learning episode rather then a well informed and kitted out demo - that was the point as we dont all instantly know how to use this stuff. With that in mind i think it did very well and as you say can be refined further and up next ill have the sounds i want dialled in. Personally im not too interested in the amp sim but its a nice backup! I think this offers something very cool and versatile, in this day and age its not overly expensive either 😎

Hi Ross. I’m interested in using this device live using the inbuilt amp models but have 2 questions; first, I understand that you can use a boost/ overdrive pedal before the opus but how do you insert time based effects like delay or chorus as these tend to sound better after the amp/ amp model. Secondly, if you want to use different presets live, is it possible to change their order so that there’s no frantic scrolling?! I’m also assuming that if playing live you’re basically tied to one amp model and would have to use a pedal board to vary sounds.
@RossDaviesTwoNotes
@RossDaviesTwoNotes 11 ай бұрын
@@kveecock Thanks for getting in touch. In terms of integrating Delay and Reverb Pedals, we would suggest placing these after OPUS. Our thought process here follows a studio methodology where you would affect both your amp + cab sound together for the optimum results. Note, you may need to place a DI box after your final pedal if you are running long cable runs to FOH. You can certainly change the order of presets but you are not tied to one amp model at all thanks to the MIDI integration. You can simply use a MIDI switcher pedal to instantaneously switch between presets using program change commands! Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify for you here!

Thanks for such a warts and all video. We are all going to have to go through this exact process if we get one of these units so you’ve dissolved some of the mystery already. I’m seriously thinking about getting one but more for live use with the built in models as they sound a lot more authentic than quite a lot of the competition so will be following your exploits with interest. I know your goal is different from mine but I also have several amps so will be interesting to view your experiences.

Great video Pauly....well not great in terms of overall editing 🤣, but great with the desired result. Seems easy enough to use & just like you sure there'd be a little time just to get used to it all. I don't think out of the box it sounded anywhere near great, but in a way neither here nor there cause you'd adjust to your preferences (if possible). So, looking forward to part 2. Amazing what you get in such a small form factor. Definite points for cool factor! Cheers

Yeh theres definitely room for some tweaking, inside or outside of the device itself but that wasnt really the angle haha. Thanks for watching - i think it either proves this is the reason people dont make “demos” like this but at the same time it does show things aren’t as perfect out the box as you might believe if your new to this stuff. The thing i wont be able to experiment with sadly is how it functions amp to amp. Like are there some amps that this would suit even better 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
@nostro1001
@nostro1001 11 ай бұрын
@@Paul-D Yup, very true, it's likely that it sounds better combined with certain gear. In that sense the options are huge, so you, like us can only use what you've got. The format was excellent really, it was real and not staged with everything in place and take your pic for post production and other pro level gear in the signal chain, that you're never told about. I assume there's really not many pro level players vs your home players, that may jam a bit with mates or do a bit of recording that watch. I think it's the newer players that watch demo's by the truckload, cause at some point you wise up, have already got most things (yeah GAS never stops tho 🤣) & it all gets kinda boring. Like how many verb pedals get you watching with great interest thinking you're gonna hear something new and magical all through KZbin and better still your phone! Some kinda multi effects pedal or even some midi controllers would work like this I reckon!
@Paul-D
@Paul-D 11 ай бұрын
Yeh i think your totally right. Most people after a few years of learning the ropes with gear and all aren’t watching videos and expecting it to be the best thing ever if they buy it. The gas rarely stops for sure, neither does the learning and getting your hands on stuff to figure out for yourself. I recently learnt about the Cooper Time cube and have tried to figure ways to copy what it does for example 🤣

@@Paul-D I assume you mean the plug in, the hardware would cost big dollars in original form, don't think many were made and they weren't especially popular c/w tape delays. Like a lot of plug ins there's just so many different tweaks... Until you get sick of it and decide to just bloody play and not fiddle. 😂

@Paul-D
@Paul-D 11 ай бұрын
Its early days but first impressions would be the amps sound better in the HX. The IRs sound better in this and in my use case where the amp sim stuff is totally secondary i think its worth its price, but ill need some more time with it to really know it. Ill report back in a few weeks haha
