I bought the ugliest Mercedes Benz ever made for $1300 (W163 ML 500)

I bought the ugliest Mercedes ever made, the W163 ML...these were made in Alabama and were called 'the alabama trash can' partially due to quality control problems. Despite its trash reputation and lesser build quality these pieces of junk still have some redeeming qualities that made me pull the trigger...or maybe I just bought a price. we'll see

My 2003 ML500 is a very reliable car and runs like a Swiss watch. Very comfy and safe. Especially my horses loves the car too as (towing) car for their trailers. Its all nonsense that it is a piece of junk. These kind of cars have often a very hard life and maintenance is key. And this W163 type is at least 18 years of age.

What you are saying about the ML W163 is not true, this was the Jurassic Park movie vehicle It is a great truck, more reliable than a Toyota and ugly they are not. Off road is amazing with it's 4matic and low gear and on road is solid. It's not ugly at all, that is only your opinion, you are not doing justice to this vehicles

I just got one on Monday. It’s an 04 350 with 150,000 miles on it. All it really needs is the bumpers painted. Zero and I mean zero rust. The seats are not even cracked lol

Nice! I got rid of mine but I got a G wagon to replace it. They are both great vehicles, looks aside. It's a close race but I would actually argue that the ML is slightly more reliable.

My 2004 ML500 has 282,000 miles and still runs strong. Also you still see these on the road. That should say something.

I loved my 2003 ML 350..217k no issues Got a 2015 ML 350 because I liked the 2003 so much. They have same motors. Those old ML's can go to 300k miles easy.

Ugly......or Awesome! This SUV is as reliable as the person maintaining it. You need to know some high level wrenching to own a 20 year old car that needs a ton of work. When it is done then you have a quality unique 4x4 Farvenugen

i bought one for 1100 a ML320 it neeeded some tlc but it runs great its good off road as well. I put a winch and roof rack and lights on it.

This era of Mercedes is honestly very reliable. That doesn’t mean little things won’t break, but it’s pretty unlikely the car will leave you stranded as long as routine maintenance is up to date
