I’m 20 and just had my ‘78 240D rear ended at the beginning of the year. I drove it every day to ATL for work and back, and even drove it to the beach and mountains. It was the slowest thing on the road. I got pulled over after driving it 8 hours for following a cop too close and had to explain that the car would slow down drastically if I didn’t have the pedal to the floor. I miss mine everyday. Smoothest car ever.

I know this is an old video now but I just had to check out the Mercy. Yes these old Diesel ones are SLOW! Even with a turbo these were dogs. But they were insanely reliable. However if you were to get your hands on a gasoline version of these cars it's a different story. I bought a 1973 280SE that had been imported from Germany by a soldier. It had their 2.8Liter Straight Six in it. BUT it also had a four speed automatic trans with actual ABS brakes (called something else because there wasn't a name for that yet) and was the most reliable yet great driving car I could have bought for $1000! I also had a 1994 300ZX non Turbo version and my roomie and I had to move the cars at the same time across town. Well I'm telling you I drove the 300ZX and my roomie drove the 280SE and I was driving that Nissan as hard as I could to try and keep up with the Mercy!! Seriously I was nailing that thing and it even had the manual transmission! I asked him once we were done if he was driving the Mercy hard and trying to lose me for fun or whatever and he looked at me not understanding what I was talking about. He said "No I was just driving the car I wasn't trying to do anything". So maybe it's the gearing and the extra gear in the Mercy that gives those old Gasoline cars the power I don't know but it was WAY faster than even the 90's cars that weren't Hot Rods or modded.
