possibly the single best point A to point B car you can buy used.. Toyota Matrix with a lower price because of the "Pontiac" label / GM parts.. I had one that was running fine with over 300k miles, original engine & transmission.. then it got stolen.... was finally recovered 6 months later.. Lol, car still started and ran fine after re-charging battery & changing the oil 😆👍

When using the spring compressor you only need to compress it just enough to take pressure off the nut. They don't need to be compressed all the way.

People always neglect the cabin air filter. Change it people. It's super simple to do and it helps keep your blower motor from working so hard. That's not an expensive repair either, but you don't want the blower motor breaking. You won't be able to clear your windshield from fog. You won't have any airflow. My 07 Vibe has the same head unit stereo with the opposite side of the screen pixels out. LOL. It does have a Monsoon 7 speaker system which are actually pretty damn good. I need to change out the head unit and modernize it. Mine only has about 120k miles which is why I bought it. Should have tons of life left. I run about 80k a year delivering auto parts, so hopefully the Toyota in this vehicle will shine through. I run a lot of highway miles obviously, so I'm hoping to get it to at least 300k if not more.

I have a 2007 Vibe and it went through a few Air Bag recalls in 2010-14. The imploder kept getting ungraded/recalled. I never had a problem but I hated getting that stupid post card in the mail and giving her over to the shop for those afternoons. (and it's frustrating that the "State Mandated Insurance" [theft] costs way more each year than I could ever get from the insurance company after a wreck.)

Yeah its an aftermarket leather airbag cover, this vehicle had a rebuilt title so I'm assuming they cheaped out instead of just getting a junkyard airbag cover. It's very odd to look at

I have a 2009 Vibe with the 1.8 engine. On truly cold starts (like the car has sat overnight) the car will start right up - no problems. If it has only been sitting an hour or two though, the car will struggle to start. I don't have to keep cranking, but it will stumble and falter until it really catches, and then will smooth out and behave normally. During that stumble and struggle I will hear the VVTI gear rattle just very briefly. On normal starts I do not hear it at all. Possible suspects: 1) dirty throttle body 2) Mass Air Filter sensor 3) fuel pump 4) VVTI gear 5) Spark plugs / coils 6) clogged fuel injectors. Any other ideas? I'd appreciate anyone's opinion and advice on how to diagnose for certain.
@jimmyjimjims74836 ай бұрын
That gen of 1.8L ALL rattle a little so I'm not too concerned about that. The big hint is that it only does it after heat soaking and not on a cold start so you can eliminate the throttle body as a suspect. I doubt a plug or coil would produce a symptom like that or you'd get a misfire of some sort. My guesses would be a failing fuel pump, a dying coolant temp sensor, or a wonky MAF sensor. I've also seen a failing cam/crank sensor cause that issue in vehicles that use the 1.8L, some forums I used to go on swear the starter is the issue because it heat soaks and then bendix gets stuck causing a hard-start but you say it stumbles so I wouldn't go with that one in this case
@StromBugSlayer6 ай бұрын
@@jimmyjimjims7483 Yes, no misfires and it always cranks ok. I'll try cleaning the MAF and see if that changes anything. How do I test for the fuel pump? Is there any other symptom of the dying coolant temp sensor?
@jimmyjimjims74836 ай бұрын
@@StromBugSlayer There's no real test for the fuel pump other than getting a fuel pressure tester and screwing it into the fuel rail to see if your fuel pressure is bleeding off when the car is warm vs when its cold. If the pump is going bad you'll have low fuel pressure when the car is warm or your fuel pressure will slowly drop off instead of staying steady. If you had a bad fuel injector that was dripping overnight it would dump fuel into the oil therefore your oil would smell like gas and be thinner but that would make it hard to start when cold not when hot so that's why I don't think its an injector. A dying coolant temp sensor is usually only diagnosed with an OBD2 scanner because you need it to read the temp from the ECM while cold and while slightly warm/hot. If the MAF is what is causing it one way to test it is unplug the MAF (with the car off and then start the car) and see if the car improves at all, the car's ECM will see that the MAF is unplugged and default to a base setting to keep fuel trims "normal". This will however trigger a check engine light so you'd have to have an OBD2 scanner to turn the light off. I'd clean the MAF first (because that's the easiest thing to do) and see if that improves it. If you don't have access to an OBD2 scanner its usually best to just take the car to have it diagnosed so they can deal with all that nonsense lol

These are very reliable if taken care of (and at 283k miles it must have been) but idk if I'd pay $2k total for it at that mileage. I think $1500 would be a fair price for it considering age/mileage. Now if its really really clean (like no rust, good paint, AC works, etc) then it might be worth it
