A straight forward way of determining whether you are in England or Scotland is looking at windows on the buildings. Typically, English buildings have windows aligned with the external finish whereas Scotland set windows back 100mm for additional protection from the elements.

I was screaming at the screen on this one at the 28 min mark because although the name Walkden had you confused there was a business sign in the background with an 0161 number on it which only a few guesses earlier you knew was a Manchester number. But you didn’t see the sign! I was like LOOK AT THE NUMBER! 0161! MANCHESTER, YOU SAID IT 5 MINS AGO! I love these videos, I’m forever hooked. Not a fan of the worldwide ones myself, but I’ll always stay subbed for UK videos. Very interesting. I’d like to add another point actually. When you’re doing UK, look at the sky and the road side of you have nothing else at all to go on. If it’s a greyish, dull sky it’s Scotland. If it’s generally bright and blue it’s England. Also, look for what flowers are growing. In Scotland and Ireland you find huge prickly bushes with yellow flowers on called gorse flower. You may also find a lot of purple foxglove and if you can see well enough, dark purple thistles grow at the roadsides in Scotland. Wetter climates will have mossy trees. South of England not likely to have mossy trees, mostly bark visible. Good luck!

It is really only the most easterly part of southern Scotland(Edinburgh down to Hawick over to Eyemouth and back up similarish. It is a very small part of Scotland. Most west of Hawick is generally quite hilly and even with parts that are flat and open the horizon will have large hills in one of the directions. It is a very distinct landscape the southern uplands and easy to spot once you are used to it..

Clues for spotting house scheme locations are mostly the further south you go in the uk the window frames are more likely to be flush with the external brick while in Scotland windows are set further back into the external wall, it’s a weather thing to protect the windows from the elements. Like this so he can see this for future reference. Also houses in Scotland are more prominent in rough casting rather than the red brick you see more down south in England The west of Scotland uses a lot of red sandstone on buildings while the east of Scotland it’s mostly yellow sandstone Aberdeen is granite, that’s why it’s known as the granite city.
