I think this civ is super slept on. I won a t112 FFA SV earlier today with a a 530+ prod Magnus city with Dutch. It had Ruhr Valley and the vertical integration promotion on top of me getting Casa and stacking the Colonial taxes card all game. It was pretty huge. Netherlands scales super well and the free culture off sent/received traders. I think it’s super overlooked. Was able to hit T4 gov before T100 just off all the traders I was sending/receiving with only like 2 theaters and 0 writers/artists recruited

yeah well, this spawn of Herson was ridicolus. Turn 55 271 prod, 100 science and 165 culture without pen and brush. Never seen something like that, the peace was completly out of control. Turn 62 industralization, thats BS

I think it makes sense to play a bit less greedy. It was obv super early that u will have a super strong game, but u still didnt take a little bit of preaparations. Mongolia could habe irreled your game with such a small investmet bc u didnt even bother to reveal his cities. It wont kill your game to make spy early for example and lvl it up or at lest reveal mongolia cities, or prebuild some chariots and take garrison card. U were so far ahead but still risk your game, I think it really is not optimal to expect everyone to let you win for no reason
@drowsyCoffeeКүн бұрын
I mean, there is a reason to expect them to let you go off, at least, early game, and that is that if they push you pre-industrial age, now you *both* lose, making it a lose-lose scenario to try and contain runaway players that directly harms your placement at the end of the game. I do agree in this particular case that it was greedy to not get some defenses going though, as Mongolia went to an early war, and while we didnt see the degree of commitment to it (it might have been just a builder steal or the like), it does ring alarm bells specially with that civ pick of a player who isnt aware of what the meta is and might throw away their game to ruin yours due to lack of awareness and/or desire to grief just for shits and giggles (valid tbf, 4x players greeding to hell and back makes my veins pop, specially from an Age of Wonders/Endless Legend/Humankind background where the whole point is the war) and who should not be expected to be playing rationally/optimally
@BIGGIECHEESE31Күн бұрын
@@drowsyCoffeeI never played the other games but the thing is also that Mongolia could never win by simming, he was super far behind. He could have easily went timing push in medieval on Herson with +12 intel and i think he would have rolled him. Herson didnt even bother to reveal cities and made 0 prebuilds, and I tihnk that mongolia would have been far better of by trying to attack him, Mogolia cant win a simoff (and thats obv not why he picked it) against wilhelmina anyways. I just find it weird, that CIVplayers alway expect their early warciv neighboor to wait for them (when they fullgreed on a latesimciv) to indus timing them, and then it wasnt "the optimal play" from the warcivplayer and they are just a "noob"... I just HATE the state of FFA

De Zeven Provincien makes city strenght too high for mongolia also mongolia doesn't know he didn't reveal and Herson also just has insane chokes
@drowsyCoffeeКүн бұрын
@@BIGGIECHEESE31 I mean. here's the thing, if Mongolia goes and medieval times Herson (at a highly competitive time due to the Feudalism spike/a bunch of good DP)... they still lose. Sure, they might take one, maybe on an ungodly lucky situation 2 cities, but very quickly the war would turn into a quagmire due to lacking the main ways to speed it up (Military engineers and the like mainly), and while these two are racing together to the bottom of the placements for the game everyone else in the lobby keeps simming and outpacing them. If they try to outsim, they lose naturally due to their relative position at that point, and if they try an early push, they also lose because they dont yet have the means to wage war effectively. The solution to the problem is just, playing a better sim civ sadly, as realistically the only way aggro civs are worth it are cases like Gorgo and the like where you have a good sim from which to springboard aggression. If you want early war shenanigans, you either need to play teamers (which are a fucking bloodbath from turn 0 pretty fucking much shit's vicious), duel, or FFA with smaller numbers of players, as the effectiveness of early war is inversely proportional to lobby size (as every extra player in the lobby that isnt warring against you is a player that is simming and pulling ahead against you). Trying to war pre-industrial on the 8 players context just kinda misunderstands the systemic pressures the format applies onto players
@drowsyCoffeeКүн бұрын
@@BIGGIECHEESE31 But in general, the problem here in understanding is that FFA is, ykno. Free for All. This isnt a duel vs Herson, where finding the timing of comparative advantage of their war civ against his sim civ is the point. This is a 1 vs 7 where your objective is to outdo every other player in the lobby, and you cannot realistically (not even in terms of value, just on terms of physical distance/space) simultaneously war 7 other players to keep them from simming while you're forced to spend your resources towards war. Inherently, war on FFA is only worth at the point where it can be made to be fast and profitable enough where either the cost invested into it is outdone by the returns, OR by how much you've slowed the other player closest to a victory/your position, and after playing a bunch, people have found this cutoff point to be early industrial/atomic depending on UUs and the like. Its no arbitrary capricious choice or anything, just a consequence of the format, and the solution to the problem is other formats, of which there are plenty, where these pressures arent present (such as teamers where falling behind isnt as much of a penalty so long as you've made someone else fall behind more, as the rest of your team can still compete for wincons)
