Right it's totally different doing your own nails- especially when using that non dominant hand- than it is doing someone else's!
@calichef19625 жыл бұрын
Yes! I would give anything to have a nail friend near by! My left hand always looks great; no lifting, no weird or asymmetrical nails, and no sloppy polish to have to clean up before curing. It would be so much fun for us each to trade doing each other's dominant hand! We would do our own non-dominant hand, and then the other would do our dominant hand to match. We would just bring all the supplies we used for the non-dominant hand and let the matching contest begin!
@sherryejohnson18605 жыл бұрын
I had 3 of my nails crushed in a car window. I picked out the broken pieces, cleaned the nail and applied new acrylic over it and it worked better then a bandage. In my opinion you are doing exactly what’s needed to protect the nail that is left. Great video.

I’m a self taught (only my daughter’s, her 2 friend’s and my own nails) nail tech. Let’s see....I was about 15 when I started teaching myself and I’m a few months shy of 40. Doing my dominate nails with my non-dominate hand was the most unnatural feeling EVER! I forced myself to continue using my non-dom hand like I used the dom hand. Seeing a PRO such as Kirstie struggle with the same thing makes me not feel so bad! Truth be told, I think (maybe because I spend more time?) I like the way the nails that I do with my non-dom hand look more! Maybe I’ll start experiment with doing a full set with my left hand! I love all of your work!!

I removed my acrylic over lays on 29th December 2018. My real nails were over an inch out from the nail bed, following 11 years of using acrylic tips and over lays. I developed severe onychylosis on my left index finger and such a bad fungal infection on my right thumb, i had to cut the nail off to the cuticle, and soak my 'stump' in tea tree oil. It's now almost August and all of the damage is nearly grown out. I'm desperate to have long nails, but I'm going to try and grow them without acrylic or gel. Wish me luck!! Xx

I'm so sorry that happened to you! Good luck with natural nails, no overlays. But know this, a very light buff is all you need for gel polish, and gel polish will add some support and protection to your natural nail.

I wouldn't do it. Every time acrylic touches my skin it itches and hurts later (while it's setting, because it kinda shrinks) but, maybe that works for some people! Although I recommend you do a test before doing the actual nail

Almost a year ago 2 of my fingers got slammed in a truck bed tool box (it was an accident but I did not let my fiance live it down) and one nail was fine, it hurt, but was fine for the most part, my other finger seemed fine, but then a couple days later I found I had maybe a quarter of my nail bed attached. I did exactly what you are doing (with gel) and it helped it so much. I also know if I did not have the gel on it when it happened, I probably would not have a nail at all right now. Love your Kirsty!
@createinspain5 жыл бұрын
I had a nail split vertically, right down to the nail bed. Unusual for me, since my nails are normally really strong (I'm getting a blood test for anaemia) and I've NEVER had a vertical split before! Trimmed it as far as I could but it was still going to catch on something. Since I have only ever done one set of gel extensions (just for fun), it was not easy but I managed to do a hard gel extension on it, with my non - dominant hand. It took a couple of attempts but I got there in the end! Like you, I opted for a clear version. so that I could keep an eye on it. A week later and I trimmed it a bit, the natural nail is almost grown out. It has saved my natural nail, since it would have been torn otherwise!
@duchessnyx5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this video 💗 I'm also prone to onycholysis (likely as a symptom of a chronic health condition) and for myself it really does speed up proper regrowth to apply an extension. Without it the fingertip itself just mashes against the damaged area, but an extension prevents that and keeps the skin flat instead of puffing up around it. Sometimes I'm sensitive to monomer so if I don't even have a little layer of nail bed growing I'll use hard gel. Doctors probably would advise against it but the alternative is often vulnerable nail beds and as long as I don't extend it enough to exacerbate lifting it speeds things up and helps me look human 👽👸🏻

Adam, the nail grows from cuticle region. It's a very queratinous tissue. The nail bed grows like skin, it's an epithelial tissue, that has 3 layers: endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm. When she ripped her nail off, she exposed her endodermis (and maybe some conjunctival tissue, underneath epithelial tissue).
