So cool that you're a maker! I've recently started making stuff, woodworking and such, and since then I've definitely made a strong connection between making stuff in a workshop and cooking. In the end they both are taking raw materials and modifying and combining them into a finished product that didn't exist before and it now exists thanks to your work and creativity.

Few more additions to consider (if you haven't already): Satechi Thunderbolt-3 dock Drop CTRL keyboard Logitech g502 lightspeed mouse (yes, gaming mouse, but trust me you won't regret it). With the dock, you can have a truly one cable solution. All peripherals, including monitor AND power adapter, hooked up to the dock. Just one little cable between the laptop and the dock. Boom! Cheers.

I was feeling low and sorry for myself... I wrote a goodbye letter to someone who kept saying adios but wouldn't leave and felt even lower cause I felt nothing at all ... Not even sadness, just emptiness and I wasn't paying attention to the screen playing whatever videos came along and I heard your voice and then I saw u cook and work with your dad? And the most beautiful wood I've seen forever and I remember my dad and I and wood... He had this power over wood like it would melt in his hands and obey his comand and u ate and built the most beautiful desk and the video was over and I had to look up the video and watch it again and again by the third time I hated myself for how much I ask of life and how little I need... If u r not an angel sent my way to pick up the pieces of my broken life then u play one on KZbin cause I do believe I needed an angel Tonite, someone good with a good heart to teach me a lesson and I might never meet u but I won't ever forget tonight and the lesson u taught me and more than that might have saved my life cause u inspired me to stop feeling sad for myself and stop the self pity party I was throwing for myself and connected to your positive and inspiring soul and I will try to b a little like u everyday and do exactly what u r doing cause for a year now I've been thinking talking but not doing a thing for the most important thing I want and need to do ... Yes, like u I want to do a number of videos and I am fixing my desk like u and making something to eat and enjoy every second like u r enjoying yours and if I ever mmake anything I can b as proud of as you are about every word u say every breath u take I promise I will share what I have inspired me to do. Not talk think dream ... But actually do... For now subscribe and I think of u as a friend and send u a like and tell your dad he has an incredible son able to inspired and move others that whatever he did as a dad worked cause I would be so proud of son like u ... Thank u my friend for everything god bless and u got yourself a new friend.... U made the most beautiful desk anyone I know has ... Till next time....

Congrats on that desk: great Job! I completely get your point about adjusting life to circumstances: when I was truck driving in the early 9ties, there was hardly time to cook fresh every day. Not after 13hrs, beeing away from home. But on sundays, I would bake a cake. So I had a fantastic piece of cake, when getting home during the week. Should I mention only 27 different apple cakes in my repertoire, back then? Keep up the good work!

I would recommend a piece of trimmed scrap leather between the monitor arm and the desk - you're likely to mar the surface finish over time otherwise. Also, I wouldn't call that staining because no stain was involved. Sealing would be a better term.

Try to add a laptop stand fixed to the monitor arm (If it's possible), it will give you more than enough table space for a keyboard and a mouse to ease your video editing work and make it a better productive area. You can also add a thunderbolt dock to make it clutter free and routing all cables to the dock and only one cable from it to the laptop so that it's just one cable to unplug and leave.

Awesome idea I'm looking for something cool for my home office and came across this. Also for those OCD like me, to clarify you didn't stain your desk. You Urethaned it. Staining is when you change the color of the wood by using "Wood Stain", which comes in browns, reds etc. The wood you used to make that desk was "stained" that's how you got all those colors. Urethane preserves the natural color of wood and protects it from water, abuse ext. For all intense purpose, its clear coat. (NOT STAIN) Just in case someone is out there looking to finish a desk and asks at the hardware store. I also recommend using water based Urethane as it makes a much better and easier finish. (Quicker drying time between coats too) Apply at least 4 and lightly sand and remove dust in between. :)

Not sure if you've already thought about this, but I would get a laptop stand and a keyboard. I've switched to using my one monitor, and keeping my laptop closed. It's clean and there's enough space on the monitor for all my windows, plus we can only multitask so much so better to keep it minimal. For window management look into Spectacle, snap all your windows in place so you're not dragging and resizing things with your mouse. Productivity!!!
