The back of passenger seat can be laid flat to make more space in that direction, especially when you already removed the back of back seat.

Na, that takes up valuable storage then. That was my old system. I run no seats in the current setup though.

i have the exact layout, the great thing about this setup is that you have a lounge area in the back seat, great for hangout/eating/reading/gaming when its raining or mosquitos outside.

Nice to see someone else building out an xB for camping. I went a bit different route with mine.

I've slept plenty of times in my xB. Seats down, angled and an inflatable pad. Great idea and thank you for sharing.

For 15 days I wanted something a little more flat. I had the car filled with food and a electric cooler so not much room for activities

This is exactly what I needed to know. In my mind I needed to remove the whole back seat, so I did and then I found your video. Lol ! . And the easy in-and-out wow what a great video.

I just bought a toaster and want to convert it. I wasn't sure how to go about making it level. This is ideal.

Your vid was exactly what I was looking for. Looking to buy a XB, just for camping. (I have a SUV tent to go w / hatchback for extra room) but want to sleep inside the XB) Plus, I’m 6’ 1” and wanted to see about sleeping length. Thanks!

This can also be used for moving, which I am driving for such a long 8 hour drive

Slide both seats all the way forward pop off the headrest recline them all the way back then fold the back seats forward .. you can get an even flatter surface if you apply pressure and pull the lever to recline no need for wood 😉

That was the first thing I tried. Very lumpy and uneven. The worst part about that way is the seat backs can’t take the weight of a knee without creating indents. Straight and rigid is the way for me. Came in clutch for 12 days of exploring Utah. I’m lazy and haven’t edited that series yet. Here’s a semi intoxicated rated R (language) video of my rig fully done and boondocking on BLM land outside of Zion. photos.app.goo.gl/akFWCCKizY7pZvpW9 If you’re bored, I built a loft bed in our Sienna for our 15 day road trip. That series is also on my channel.

@@olde5761 it’s a custom size. I custom cut foam then a sleeping bag. Stores super easy. Video of the trip will be posted at some point.

I used your video as inspiration for my own build. One important detail regarding sleeping dimensions is that the interior skin of the XB's hatch is THICK, and when closed protrudes into the hatch enough to rob you of about 3 inches. 3" may seen trivial, but if you're 6 feet tall, it prevents you from being able to sleep straight, and forces you to sleep at an extreme angle, which is uncomfortable; and negates camping with a second person. Bummer

how com you didnt make the hinged part fit wider to cover your armrest glove box. Would have given another 8-10". Thanks for giving that measurement of 6' as im 5-10" and should work nicely

My head isn’t that big. And I like access to my center console. 😉

How come you made the part that hinges and lays on the front passenger seat frame so small of a width, not wider, closer to the drivers seat? Because of the center console or?

Yeah. I wanted the bed as low as possible. Plus, I’m a rock and don’t move when I sleep!

Your current design is no good, do this way: 1) remove the head rests for both passenger seat and rear seat; 2) push the passenger seat all the way forward; 3)bring down the back of rear seat and push down the back of passenger seat towards rear seat. In doing so, the tip of the back of passenger seat could touch the tip of rear seat, squeeze it down until they are flat against each other. your current design removed the back of rear seat and replaced it with some wood plate, how much space you created in this kind of design? not much!

Well, all your ideas keep things in which take up valuable space. This was for storage and to get 6’ of 100% straight and level sleeping platform. It’s been refreshed and I rock only the drivers seat and there is no other way for me. kzbin.inforFXhN_36rD0?si=0IP06cK1UaDpX347
