Putting RTV on both sides of a gasket adds 2 more sealing surfaces you'd have with only using one of the two. Metal surface - RTV - gasket - RTV - Metal surface Or Metal surface - RTV/Gasket - metal surface Would still most likely work for this 'low hp' application

Also just another thing I noticed is that you may have confused the actual PCV valve and the breather vent on the valve cover. Putting a catch between the breather and air intake won't do much as it's usually not spewing oil. You would want to actually put it in on the PCV line, it should be further down on the block of the engine and goes somewhere on the actual intake plenum/manifold.
@_Gingium_10 ай бұрын
Mhhhhh, sounds like I should just ditch the factory PCV setup and weld some ports on the valve cover and get a vented catch can. Makes so much more sense to me than this factory PCV nonsense
@JamieBainbridge10 ай бұрын
They are two different systems. I have never built a turbo motor but your breather catch can is good. I'd just put a new PCV valve on so it's working properly and leave it alone. Maybe see if any Honda experts know an upgraded PCV valve which is better for turbo motors? Like how Miata B6/BP can upgrade to the factory SE/SP turbo PCV valve.
@_Gingium_10 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s what I thought, but I honestly was a bit confused lol
@JamieBainbridge10 ай бұрын
Actually, sorry I am wrong and this guy is right. The PCV valve should stop boost getting into the crankcase. The breather is at atmosphere (before the throttle body) to let air into the engine. Put the catch can between the PCV and the intake manifold. I also get confused, it's annoying to remember which way the valve flows and when.
@amdstrollo307410 ай бұрын
@@JamieBainbridge Yep, I've tinkered around with so many Hondas at this point, their PCV valve configuration haunts me with their stupid hose clamps and annoying wiring looms biting my fingers. Another optional configuration he can do is in addition to hooking up the catch can to the PCV system, you can just put a cone style breath on the valve cover instead of that hose, that is usually just for drawing in air and occasionally lets some vapors out, hence why it hooks up to the air intake before the throttle body. If you're going boosted and getting a tune, it's usually what most of the guys do, but you'd have to block off the little plumbing you put in the intake tube. Personally, I would put a larger tube going between the valve cover and the intake tube. If you look at the L15B7 (turbo) you will notice that that hose is substantially bigger than most NA Hondas.
@SXF_turbo10 ай бұрын
Hey Caleb, you did an awesome job with this one like always. One tip I can give you with the oil drain fittings: Weld them in a 45° angle up to the pan, that way you have better flow and no need for that 90° fitting. Some engines are even tilted and you absolutely need to do that.

Hey, about what you said on the 1st vs 2nd gen fit. I owned a 2009 (Second gen) Fit and I can say with 100% confidence, they had a single port as the exhaust manifold, similar to almost all Honda's past 2008... The R18, K20, K24, L15 series, even the J series all switched over to the single exhaust style sometime in the later 2000s.

Run a turbine speed sensor and graph speeds with bov and without one between shifts...the air back feeding to compressor has to slow the turbo down and strain turbo shift or bearings.
