The talk about health was lovely 🥰 I fought cancer - not for long because my bunny wouldn’t leave my side so I nagged my doctor until he did the right tests (my bunny moved from my side when I got home cancer free, so I know he knew!). I’m now stuck with hyperthyroidism/hypothyroidism (it changes depending on how much meds I’m on) and I have the energy of a 90 year old - old people with walkers walk faster than me all the time. I went for a walk with my mom yesterday and it was a bit longer than what I usually do, so today I’m barely able to move from my bed to the bathroom. It’s a daily struggle and hearing Deli talk about these things, even though it’s not about me specifically, I appreciate it a lot. Please appreciate what you have and what you’re able to do! And enjoy it! (And also check your TSH levels regularly because you can be sick without knowing, just like I was) 🥰

I love the idea of a full Australian themed world, especially because I grew up in a small town in Queensland. I just started doing a full rebuild of Oasis Springs as an “outback” world. So far I’ve started building a cafe based on a picture of an old grocery store in an abandoned NSW mining town and added a Queenslander style home I previously built. Planning on doing an iconic small town corner hotel (pub/bar) and a block of terrace houses.

We have a lot of paved driveways and patio areas in Canada. You have to use a weed killer sometimes and fill back the grouty sand in between the bricks to prevent plants getting in there. They mostly grow from top down because of seeds and dirt accumulation in between the bricks and not from underneath when it's property built :)

US here, with brick walkways everywhere! When laying brick now, you put a stone underlayer and then fill the gaps with a crushed stone that compacts with water (or rain) so it doesn't typically grow grass between. Eventually, you need to refill it. But for the other paths without that, we spray a vinegar/water mix on the weeds and it kills them.

To be honest... We in South Africa have brick paving for driveways. Yes there are weeds growing through. But we maintain it... It really is a good better option regarding a plain pavement of cement. But also a little expensive given the area you want paved.

About brick driveways. We call them monoblocks here in Scotland. You use a weed proof membrane, then a layer of hardcore (Type 1 or rockbase), then sand and your blocks on top. Once laid you also brush sand onto the little gaps. This makes the monoblock permeable to rain (important in Scotland) and you do get some wee green bits growing through but it's easily maintained really. The monoblock driveway can also be power washed, you just need to brush more sand into the little gaps again afterwards. Civil engineer here so any other questions let me know, it's my passion (sad I know). I know you're super interested in architecture and the use of materials and how well materials work in the built environment xx

I grew up with a brick driveway. Yes there were weeds growing in the cracks, and we ignored them. (We lived next to a bush reserve in Australia, so the drive way was the least of our worries with abundant nature). The car will either drive over them, and if you're picky you can use weed killer.

i love how all your builds have so much character! seconds before you yourself said that houses tell stories i though that as well and how i really love when people build like that! starter houses for the perfect nuclear family are nice but what about 3 stinky college dudes living there? what about a family that renovated the last time like 25 years ago and used elements that were in then but not now? (I watch a lot of Alexandra Gater and right now she's renovating her childhood home and talks about denim couches and weirdly shaped walls and its just... idk those things stay with you!!) of course i love your lux builds as well, but they too are build with so much intention, i love it

OH! I wanted to comment on the fluffy towel thing! While I lived in Japan, the suggestion I was given was that you need to shake the towels after washing them (like you're trying to get Bowser's fur off of it) before drying? I'm not certain if that really helped. I've also heard that darker towels keep their fluff better, not sure if this is true!

At least in my area of the US, brick or pavers are meant to be laid over a special layer of sand called slag sand. It is similar to really finely ground concrete and is typically poured down in a pretty thick layer of a few inches. Then it gets leveled, then packed down so it doesn't move. Then when you place your bricks down, they should stay nice and level. And there is pretty much nothing, at least around here, that will grow in the slag sand because it is so dry. My dad used to work in landscaping and I helped him do our back patio in pavers about 10 years ago and it is still doing great with hardly any weeds!

We have the brick driveway in the UK. It's very important that we regularly deweed the drive as the weed is very very stubborn and will grow constantly. There's a wire brush that you can buy at garden centres which is used just to clean gaps between each brick. If you don't look after it, it won't look beautiful like the sims - only to look like you are a lazy home owner who neglect house maintenance lol

We have a bricked driveway, but it’s a green parking space. So the grass are meant to pop up between the brick. So we just cut it if it gets too long. It makes the driveway look really green and inviting 😊 But I think usually you put a weed mat under to at least try to keep the grass and weeds out.
