You definitely should get a proper bearing press. 10:41 I also recommend using Loctite 243 on the caliper bolts and adapter. This will keep it secure for longer, even in rapid temp changes and hard braking, but of course it eventually will wear out. And buy regular bottle, not the tiny one, as it's not economically wise.

13:07 Interesting rack. I hope this works, I'm not how much this frame can handle. But likely fine. You are probably not going to overload it. Does it wobble as rubber coating wears? does it wear? is there a rubber coating or is it just painted black? Make sure it's not loose as it could compromise the frame over time.

11:38 I'm not a fan of the Tektro mechanical disk brake caliper as it's single piston, you need to move the caliper in to then adjust the inside pad. But yes when set up properly they work nicely. With TRP (Tektro Racing Products) Spyke this is not an issue, as you can adjust each piston. But it has a bit firm return spring, at first it was very noticeable, but I got stronger fingers now. But they have very fragile barrel adjuster, it's too soft Alu, I hit it iwth my hand one my front brake by accident and it snapped off, ran it on a 170mm full suspension bike and the rear got bent when it was adjusted out. So if you try TRP Spyke, keep the barrel adjuster on the caliper all the way in.

12:28 Any reason you went for Sqaure Taper cranks? what's your experience with Square Taper? So far all I had came loose as axle ate the crank. I've not seen SunRace cranks on a bike yet, yours is the first. Fun fact not a term Norwegians will use, as taper reads as loser. 😄 Also why no gears? Live in a flat area maybe? I live in Norway even non mountainous parts of the country have plenty of ups and downs.

The problems with the squeeking brakes: You´ve used the washers, that were ment to be used with the Clarks. The tektro don´t need these, so as You built it, the clamp is sitting too high on the disc and a good pard of the brakepad is scratching on top of the disk, instead the whole pad bites the sides.

11:18 Maybe the piston gets stuck so you think you locked the wheel and then it slips and moves. Maybe wire slips. Unlikely you did this mistake., but could be set it up with brake hose out of the barrel adjuster and then it popped in.

Yeah with the 20 inch wheels you need a taller ratio on the cogs for the same "effective" ratio as a bigger wheel.

Small wheels accelerate well, but lose speed, but I guess for heavy loads and short distances this makes sense. But the geometry, sizing is too much compromise for me to ride a Mini Veco. But 26er or 27.5 bike would probably be a better solution for my needs, but not sure how the bike will be, so far I'm in research stage.

The decathlon rack isn't sold here anymore, but I know it because I have one on the back of my trike. I've modified it, some parts are welded on, removed the plastic slide part, but I do think it's well built. And so very light. Alu so can't rust . I guess it didn't sell well and got discontinued....

Copper compound is a grease with copper powder in it to keep threads from seizing. You shouldn't use it on bearing or anything that isn't threads. Also it can be expensive so even if it works normal grease is better for bearings and stuff. I know this video is old, and you probably have figured it out by now.

There's concerningly few videos about minivelos vs folding bikes. I personally have no idea what's the benefit of a minivelo, a folder seems like a clear winner here, utility-wise?
@jfouellette5174
@jfouellette5174 Жыл бұрын
Minivelo are smaller and therefore take up less space in a garage or appartement. They are nimbler in urban use. Finally, their weight is less than larger bikes and also folding bikes. The later are heavier because of the hinges and other features needed to strengthen their frames.

You shouldn't grease the outer spindle before you put your cranks on. It seems like it would make them easier to take off next time, but it actually does the opposite. It allows the cranks to slide too far onto the spindle, especially if they are used and a little bit worn, and they get wedged up too tight with the recommended amount of torque. It makes them a nightmare to take back off. If you find yourself needing to use the breaker bar on the crank puller, that's probably why. I always degrease the outer spindle and the cranks before I put them on, and put just a little grease or anti-seize on the threads of the bolt. Do that, and you will have a much better time taking them back off.
